The Irish Medtech Association, Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland are delighted to announce the 11th Medtech Excellence Awards 2017 will take place on Thursday 7 December in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Galway, aimed at promoting and rewarding outstanding performance in the sector. The winners will be announced on the night for the following awards: + Medtech Company of the Year + Emerging Medtech Company of the Year + Academic Contribution to Medtech Award + ehealth Innovation of the Year + Medtech Partner/Supplier of the Year + Best European Medtech Week Campaign Award

Submissions are invited from all Irish Medtech Association (Ibec) member companies and client companies of Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland. Entries are open to employees from any department within the company both individual and group/team entries are accepted. For the Academic Contribution to Medtech Award, submissions are invited from research teams and/or individuals from any third level. Why are we doing this? The medtech sector is among the most dynamic, technologically progressive, and economically important in Ireland, with numerous examples of outstanding achievements by companies of all sizes over the years. Through our awards programme, the Irish Medtech Association, Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland aim to identify, reward and profile some of these outstanding performances from both established and emerging companies and other relevant organisations. The academic award will showcase the capabilities, resources and relevant innovative medical technology research taking place in Ireland s third level institutes. The supplier/ partner award, launched in 2016, recognises the contribution these companies make to the development of Ireland s medtech ecosystem. The ehealth innovation award, also launched in 2016, promotes and rewards innovation through convergence of technologies in line with Irish Medtech Association Strategy 2016-2020. The New Medtech Week Campaign Award recognises companies efforts to raise awareness of the value of medtech amongst key stakeholders. How do I submit an entry? The entry process is easy: simply download the entry form from the awards website, complete and return by Friday 22 September. Full criteria for each category are available online. Winners at the 10th Medtech Medtronic Medtronic won the Medtech Company of the Year Award at the 10th Irish Medtech Awards. Medtronic s Parkmore Galway facility in existence for 30 years is a global centre of excellence for company operations and new product development. An example of the site s evolution is the Customer Innovation Centre that was opened in 2013. This state of the art facility allows global healthcare professionals and Irish Medtronic engineers to work together to overcome challenges and meet the needs of a changing healthcare environment. This collaboration has evolved significantly since its opening as new therapies and solutions thrive on this collaboration. By working closely with customers, Medtronic aims to improve clinical outcomes, provide economic value and increase access to quality healthcare for patients around the world. Zoan BioMed won the Emerging Company of the Year Award. By converging a deep craft in coral biology with the most advanced thinking in biomaterials Zoan BioMed produces orthobiologic scaffolds with hospitable and interconnected porosity. The company was formed to meet growing demand for bio-materials in the Bone Void Filler market. This market shows compound annual growth of 12%, and is of increasing importance as the global population ages. Coral is an ideal bone graft substitute, is osteoconductive, inert, readily available and adaptable in terms of size and shape. It is biodegradable, allowing bone ingrowth and provides structural support. John O Dea won the Outstanding Contribution to Medtech Award for his significant contribution to the development, growth and success of the medtech sector in Ireland. He is a former Irish Medtech Association Chair with over 30 years experience in medtech, ranging from multinationals such as Nellcor Puritan Bennet, Digital Equipment and Dataproducts Inc, to setting-up his own business Caradyne, which was later acquired by Respironics in 2004. He is now the CEO founder of Crospon.
Excellence Awards 2016 Zoan BioMed BioInnovate SilverCloud West Contract Manufacturing BioInnovate were the winners of the Academic Contribution to Medtech Award. BioInnovate Ireland is a novel medical technologies innovation programme. The programme is lead from NUI Galway and operates in conjunction with the academic partners University of Limerick and University College Cork (coordinated within Health Innovation Hub Ireland). The focus of BioInnovate is to employ needs led innovation to foster the formation of new start-up companies, and support and encourage research in the indigenous and multinational companies in the medtech sector. The model used in BioInnovate combines design thinking and entrepreneurship. This approach originated in the Stanford D-School, and was further honed in the Stanford Biodesign Programme. BioInnovate have employed this model in the Irish and European ecosystem, and are currently the only programme in the world that are official affiliates of the Stanford progamme. SilverCloud won the ehealth Innovation of the Year Award. SilverCloud is an online mental health and chronic care platform which has come from over a decade of academic and clinical research into online delivery of mental health care. It is in use today by over 75 healthcare organizations and 25 corporate/pharma/universities worldwide. SilverCloud has proven clinical results through real world delivery of over 70,000 patients since March 2012 through to full randomized control trials that show clinical results which are on par with face to face delivery. West Contract Manufacturing won the Partner/Supplier of the Year Award. West is a leading manufacturer of packaging components and delivery systems for injectable drugs and healthcare products. Approximately 110 million of West s proprietary components and devices are used daily, which are designed to improve the delivery of healthcare to patients around the world. It is a process driven, global contract manufacturer of drug delivery and diagnostic medical devices. West s contract manufacturing business is focused on serving the needs of healthcare companies by providing a single-sourced solution from product conceptualisation and rapid prototyping through to high-volume manufacturing and final packaging. Publicity Submissions are strictly confidential and will be destroyed after the judging process. However, an overview of winning entries will be featured in the press release which will be issued to the national and regional media (signed off by company). The judging panel are experts who have no vested interest in the medtech sector, and each sign an NDA prior to judging. Please note that the criteria for Best European MedTech Week Campaign Award 2017 is very much public relations related. Why should I enter?
