Many architects create a cartoon version of the working drawings they intend to produce prior to beginning actual work. They use the cartoon set to identify the scope of work required and to organize the drawings. The cartoon set is traditionally static. It provides a model or a roadmap for the actual drawings, but is rarely used for anything else. http://architecturalpractices.com/articles_working_cartoon_set.html Drawing Sheet List Material Legend Graphic Symbols Abbreviations Site Plan Set Out Geometry 4

Theory: Revit has many different ways of displaying information about the model. Here you will see some of display settings which will assist a working drawings set. Lab: a. Architectural vs. Structural elements b. Detail levels c. Visual styles d. Template Working Drawings Display Settings Architectural vs. Structural elements 1 2 Within Revit elements have different levels of importance for different teams. An example is structural wall vs. an architectural wall. 1. In the properties of the wall a wall can be designated as a structural wall so that it will show up on a structural plan. repared by; Tyheem Joiner 3 2. To turn a plan into a structural plan, on the property panel for that view go to the discipline and select structural. Now only walls labeled as structural will show up. 3. Any additional items that need to be hidden can be turned of by going to Wall detail levels Detail level Visual styles Coarse Medium or fine Plan view, any detail level Medium Fine Coarse Component with detail levels specified The detail level specify how much information is shown ranging from coarse to fine. Coarse show the least amount of detail and fine showing the most. Some components are created to react differently to different detail levels. Walls show the outer boundary in coarse detail level and show the inner layers in medium or fine detail level. This is useful when trying to conserve memory or when a lot of detail is lost Wireframe Displays the model as a wireframe only 13
Visual styles Hidden Line Displays the model as a linework to define geometry Visual styles Shaded Displays the model as shaded color geometry only Visual styles Consistent Colors Displays faces of elements in flat color; faces of elements that are oriented at different angles to the camera will display in the same shaded color. Visual styles Realistic Elements that have material definitions assigned will display texture maps in real time. Ray Trace Real Time rendering of view using Revit s raytrace engine. Realistic Raytrace View Templates View Templates A view template is a collection of view properties, such as view scale, discipline, detail level, and visibility settings, that are common for a view type (such as plan or elevation). You specify the value for each property in the template. You can also exclude properties from a view template, Excluded properties do not require a value and are not overridden when you apply a view template. Once a template is created we can apply it to view by Once a template is created we can apply it to view by going to the project browser Selecting the views we want to apply the template to and right clicking on the view to select apply view template. Then, select, edit or create a new view template and click apply. 14
