easily INSTALLED ON: > framed interior > framed exterior > poured concrete > concrete block > brick Installation Instructions Want to Do-It-Yourself? Here s How: WHAT YOU LL NEED: eye protection masonry hammer staple gun or hammer stapler* scraper flat trowel brick trowel stiff brush masonry brush grout bag ½ tuck pointed trowel 18-gauge galvanized metal lath* 1. Clean and prepare your surface. Any painted surfaces must be stripped before applying your veneer. a. If applying veneer to a non-framed surface, proceed to step #3. b. If applying veneer to a framed surface, an exterior sheathing is required. Sheathing is typically plywood, composite board, flush metal siding Figure 1 or another material in compliance with local building codes. Ensure sheathing is in good condition, replace any sheathing that is in poor condition. c. Apply weather resistant vapor barrier over the sheathing, (Figure 1) securing with staples. Be sure to apply the barrier, starting at the bottom of your project and overlap the sheet joints at least four inches. Pinnacle recommends two layers of vapor barrier; be sure to check your local building codes for any layering requirements. 2. Install galvanized metal lath over sheathing, (Figure 2) starting at the bottom, using galvanized nails or screws. 3. Mix rich mortar to manufacturer s specifications (typically to a frostinglike consistency). 4. Apply a scratch coat over the metal lath, (Figure 4.1) or non-framed surface, at least ½-¾ thick using a flat trowel and a mortar (type S) mixture, according to manufacturer s specifications. Once scratch coat is applied, rake horizontal grooves in the scratch coat (Figure 4.2) and allow it to cure. This can be done with a stiff brush or rake. 5. Arrange stones on the ground, (Figure 5) or any large surface, to desired pattern. Make sure stones are free from any dirt, dust, or debris. If any trimming is necessary, Figure 5 complete it now using a masonry hammer. Eye protection should be worn whenever splitting or cutting veneer stones. galvanized nails or screws* weather resistant vapor barrier paper* wheelbarrow mixing hoe mortar (type S) cutoff saw with diamond blades* Pinnacle Thin Stone Veneer *Not necessary for all applications BE SURE TO CHECK AND COMPLY WITH ALL LOCAL BUILDING CODES. Figure 4.2 Figure 2 Figure 4.1 6. After mixing, use a masonry brush to dampen the back of each stone before you apply a generous ½-1 coating of mortar (Figure 6.1). Firmly press the stone onto the Figure 6.1 scratch coat at the desired location, allowing excess mortar to squeeze out from behind the stone (Figure 6.2). A slight swirl, while pressing the stone will help ensure a firm bond. Pinnacle recommends for projects containing corners, that they are placed first, starting at the bottom, before the flats, which will aid in keeping your pattern consistent. Figure 6.2 7. Keep the stone faces free from any mortar throughout application. If mortar gets on any stone s face clean it from the stone using a brush and sponge before it dries. 8. Use a grout bag to fill in the joints (Figure 8.1). Allow grout to slightly harden (properly hardened grout will crumble or flake when tooled) before tooling to desired depth (Figure 8.2). A tuck pointing trowel is useful here. Brush off any excess mortar after tooling. Figure 8.1 9. Repeat steps 6-8 until your project area is covered with veneer. 10. Allow your project to cure for at least 72 hours. Figure 8.2 11. If necessary, wet your veneer and apply a mild cleaning detergent and use a stiff brush to clean off any remaining dust or debris. NEVER USE ANY TYPE OF ACID ON NATURAL STONE VENEER. 12. Enjoy the beauty, elegance and value you ve created by choosing Pinnacle Natural Stone Veneer for your project. Brandywine, Crystal Creek & Pinnacle Mica NOTICE: PLEASE READ BEFORE INSTALLING THIS PRODUCT Warranty/Disclaimer Information Pinnacle Stone Products, LLC (PSP) produces our products from natural stone. Our products are provided to you with the utmost dedication to quality. However, due to their natural construction, they are provided without warranty of any kind either expressed or implied, but not limited to the implied warranties of merchantability for a particular purpose. Natural stone is a hard substance formed of mineral matter by nature. Due to this fact, variations in color, texture, cleft, and size will occur. Samples, photos, brochures, and digital images are taken to represent our products as accurately as possible, but may slightly differ from the stone that you actually receive. The laboratory tests conducted by PSP on our products are preformed on a relative sample of a particular product. These tests accurately report the specifications of the stone sampled and will generally reflect the specifications found on the majority of that product, but due to the variance in natural stone formations, these specifications may not be reflective of all of the stone you receive. Use of Chemicals or Acids for Cleaning: Acids or chemical cleaners are not recommended for use with PSP s products due to the user s inability to control the effects of these products on natural stone. User/Installer accepts all risks in using these products. PSP will not be held responsible for any discoloration, flaking or cracking resulting from the application of these cleaners. Blending Products: PSP s products are produced of the finest raw materials available to us. We strive for excellence in every aspect during the production process to ensure consistency in color, texture, and cut. However, when using multiple packages of PSP s product, it is necessary to blend the contents from the packages to ensure consistent color, size and texture appearance on your project. Color Matching: When attempting to match the color and texture of an existing stone structure, please be aware that our product is provided on an AS IS basis and is intended to be used that way. Attempting to match a structure in this manner, though visually successful, may result in excessive waste or an unintended result. Please speak to a PSP representative before attempting any matching of an existing structure. Coverage: Exact coverage of PSP s products cannot be guaranteed, as every installation varies with the masonry style of the installer or project. Joint styles may vary, adding or subtracting from suggested square footage amounts listed. The quantities of our packaging will take into account a standard installation including a mortar joint. Please keep this in mind when ordering PSP s products. Using PSP s Products Safely: Please use safety equipment such as eye, hearing, respiratory, and hand protection when using, handling, or installing PSP s product. Some of our stone products may contain crystalline silica or other potentially harmful substances which, if inhaled, may cause severe damage to the lungs. For these reasons we do not recommend dry sawing of our products. We recommend using wet saws when cutting our product. 35 36
