Engineering Specificatin ARTC CP Trackside Mnuments 1 Scpe This dcument specifies requirements fr the lcatin and design f trackside mnuments fr the fllwing purpses:- T mnitr the track psitins where its stability, bth laterally and lngitudinally may be at risk. T enable track t be lcated and maintained in its design psitin. T mnitr the track psitin at restricted clearance lcatins. 2 Specificatin 2.1 Mnuments fr mnitring track stability (Type B) 2.1.1 Psitin relative t track Mnuments fr this purpse shall be lcated each side f the track s that:- They cannt lse their functin by the nrmal actin f plant such as ballast regulatrs, side drain cleaning plant and ballast shulder cleaners. The distance frm the track centre t bth mnuments can readily be measured. The lngitudinal lcatin f the rails can readily be checked. This may be achieved by stretching a string line between the tw mnuments placed at right angles t the track, and marking the rail s field faces with punch marks in line with the edge f the mnuments. Alternatively this may be achieved by survey. Wherever pssible they d nt ful the structure gauge. 2.1.2 Determinatin f lcatins (a) Mnuments shall be installed at the fllwing lcatins alng the track, the pririties fr installatin t be determined fllwing site specific risk assessments. The risk assessments shall take int accunt factrs including the fllwing:- Where the track has a histry f instability. Ballast prfile cnditin. Type and integrity f fastenings. The prximity f fixed pints such as turnuts, level crssings and bridges. Train tractin cnditins such as braking and acceleratin. Curve radii. (b) The number and lcatin f mnuments at a particular site shall be determined by a cmpetent persn. Engineering Specificatin ARTC CP Trackside Mnuments 2.2 Mnuments fr maintaining design lcatin (Type A) 2.2.1 Lcatins Mnuments fr this purpse shall be prvided at lcatins f special cncern such as:- At curves where faulty alignment exists prir t realignment. Where the alignment is difficult t maintain. They shall be lcated n ne side f the track s that:- They cannt lse their functin by the nrmal actin f plant such as ballast regulatrs, side drain cleaning plant and ballast shulder cleaners. The distance frm the track center t the mnument can readily be measured. Wherever pssible they d nt ful the structure gauge. 2.2.2 Lcatins alng the track (a) Mnuments shall be installed at the fllwing lcatins alng the track, the pririties fr installatin shall take int accunt factrs including the fllwing:- Curve radii. Special lcatins such as turnuts and level crssings. Bridges (b) Mnuments shall be lcated as determined by a cmpetent persn. On curves as a minimum they shall be lcated at the uter and inner tangent pints and at the crwn pint. 2.3 Mnuments at restricted clearance lcatins (Type A) 2.3.1 Psitin relative t track Mnuments fr this purpse shall be lcated n ne r bth sides f the track s that:- They cannt lse their functin by the nrmal actin f plant such as ballast regulatrs, side drain cleaning plant and ballast shulder cleaners. The distance frm the track centre t the mnument can readily be measured. The relative level f the track t the mnument can be measured. Such structures may include:- Overbridges Underbridge structural members Tunnels Platfrms and assciated awnings Signalling equipment Lineside telephne equipment (b) The number and lcatin f mnuments at a particular site shall be determined by a cmpetent persn, hwever as a guide they shuld be placed at : 10m intervals fr structures n curves 50m intervals fr structures n straight track Bth ends f structures 2.4 Details f mnuments 2.4.1 Type A These mnuments shall cnsist f a suitable length f rail (f ft width at least 125mm) r equivalent pst cncreted securely in the grund. Datum plates are t be fixed t the pst and shall cnsist f a 12 SWG aluminium plate f minimum size 120 by 250 mm, with an aluminium blck fixed t the face f the plate. The upper face f the blck shuld represent the design level f the nearest rail. The datum pint is t be fixed t the plate s that nce set in psitin it cannt easily be mved by unauthrised persns. The fllwing infrmatin is t be displayed as required n datum plates:- Distance frm datum plate t gauge face f nearest rail Design superelevatin at the lcatin Maximum rail level (high rail n curves) Curve infrmatin - tp, itp Track centres where applicable Kilmetrage f mnument. Creep datums marked n edge f mnument (saw cut r similar) t enable lngitudinal mvement t be mnitred using a string line. Datum plates are t be fixed t the psts at rail level and shuld cnsist f a 12 SWG aluminium plate f apprximate size 100 by 100 mm. The fllwing infrmatin is t be displayed as required n these mnuments:- Distance frm datum plate t gauge face f nearest rail Creep datums marked r ntched n edge f mnument (saw cut r similar) t enable lngitudinal mvement t be mnitred using a string line. Nte Mnuments fr may nt be required in lcatins where the rails are psitively restrained such as in cncrete slab track. 2.5 Measurement 2.5.1 Methd f Measurement Measurements between the track and mnuments shall be carried ut directly r by survey. 2.6 Tlerances At lcatins where clearances are nt restricted the maximum deviatin frm the designed hrizntal alignment as shwn n trackside mnuments shall nt be mre than 50mm. At lcatins where clearances are restricted, in additin t the relevant infrmatin listed in Clause 2.4.1, the site specific design tlerances shall be shwn n r adjacent t the mnument. Alternatively the clearance register shall include the design tlerances at such lcatins. Ntwithstanding the abve requirements, the track gemetry shall be maintained accrding t the requirements f Sectins 5.4 and 5.7 in the ARTC T&C Cde f Practice.
