Floral Bag By Marie Duncan These fun and funky 3D flowers will bring a fresh breath of spring, to your wardrobe! The featured design, #200257006, is from HUSQVARNA VIKING embroidery collection 257, 3D Flowers. It is the free design for April, 2014. There are eight parts to this design. Each flower petal is embroidered separately, and then they are joined together with the center of the flower. To download the designs, go to the HUSQVARNA VIKING website. Click on Be Inspired/Inspiration and Sewing Projects. Choose the project for April, and click on View Project. Then click on Download Design to access the design. The entire collection, 3D Flowers, is available for purchase from your local HUSQVARNA VIKING dealer. Sewing Supplies: Ruffler 920032096 Interchangeable Dual Feed 920219096 Clear ¼ Piecing Foot w/guide 412927445 INSPIRA embroidery needle, size 90 620071896 INSPIRA topstitch needle, size 100 620099196 INSPIRA Aqua Magic stabilizer 620120201 INSPIRA Cut-A-Way stabilizer 620110896 INSPIRA In-R-Form batting alternative 36" x 58" 620131596 ⅛ yard of three colors for applique (we used silk dupioni but cotton would work as well) ½ yard linen 1 yard print for band and lining Robison-Anton 40 wt. rayon embroidery thread Sewing thread Bobbin thread Steam-A-Seam 9 x 12 sheet Pictogram Pen Page 1 of 6

Cut: From print: Two strips 6 long x 14 wide for band Two rectangles 14 long x 21 wide for lining Four strips 2½ long x 14 wide for handles One strip 2 long x 5½ wide for closure From linen: Two rectangles 14 long x 21 wide for outer bag From INSPIRA In-R-Form: Two rectangles 2½ x 13 for band Two strips 2 x 13½ for handles From Steam-A-Seam: Two strips 2 x 13½ Embroider: 1. Prepare your HUSQVARNA VIKING sewing and embroidery machine for embroidery. Attach the Sensor Q-foot. 2. Insert an INSPIRA embroidery needle, size 90 and thread with 40 wt. rayon embroidery thread on top and bobbin thread in the bobbin. 3. Toggle to Embroidery Mode. 4. Touch My Hoops and select 260 x 300. 5. Load designs 200257006a, 200257006b, 200257006c, 200257006d, 200257006e, 200257006f and 200257006g. 6. Tap on the screen, twice, away from the designs to deselect the designs. 7. Arrange them close together, but not touching in the top third of the hoop. 8. Touch Select All. 9. Touch Duplicate. 10. Tap on the screen, twice, away from the designs to deselect. 11. Arrange them one at a time, close together, but not touching in the middle of the hoop. Page 2 of 6

12. Touch Select All. 13. Touch Duplicate. 14. Tap on the screen, twice, away from the designs to deselect. 15. Arrange them one at a time, close together, but not touching in the bottom third of the hoop. You now have the petals for three flowers. 16. Hoop two layers of Aqua Magic water soluble stabilizer. 17. Touch 18. The first color stitches the outline of where the applique fabric is to be placed. 19. When it is complete, place your applique fabric. 20. When the second color is done stitching, cut away the excess fabric. 21. Stitch color 3 which is the accent stitching. 22. Colors 4 stitches some accent stitching and satin stitches. 23. Color 5 stitches the remaining satin stitching. 24. Continue stitching, switching applique fabric after the 7 th and 14 th colors until all of your flower petals are stitched. 25. Trim apart the petals, trimming off any excess stabilizer. 26. Place in a mesh lingerie bag and wash in warm water to remove the stabilizer. Air dry. 27. Hoop Cut-A-Way stabilizer in your 360 x 200 hoop. 28. Bring in design 200257006. This is the flower center. 29. Insert a size 100 topstitch needle. This is neccesary because of the bulk of the flower petals. 30. Color 1 stitches the placement area for the first petal, #6A. Don t stress if you don t know which one 6A is, they can be out of order as long as you use 7 petals. We mixed up the colors using some of each in each flower. 31. After color 1 is complete, place the first petal. 32. Color 2 stitches it in place. Page 3 of 6

33. Color 3 stitches the placement for the second petal. 34. After color 3 is complete, place the second petal. 35. Stitch color 4. It holds down the second petal and stitches placement for the third petal. 36. The remainder of the colors through 9 stitch down the petal and stitch placement. 37. Continue until all petals are in place. 38. Stitch the remaining colors. 39. Return to Embroidery Edit. 40. Move the design to the top of the hoop. 41. Repeat the steps for the second flower. 42. Return to Embroidery Edit. 43. Move the design to the bottom of the hoop. 44. Repeat the steps for the third flower. 45. Cut away the excess stabilizer. You now have three flowers ready to tack on to your bag! Sew: 1. Set your HUSQVARNA VIKING sewing and embroidery machine for sewing. 2. Thread with sewing thread top and bobbin. 3. Remove the ankle and attach your Ruffler. Set the adjusting lever to 12. This means it will pleat every 12 th stitch. Turn the adjusting screw all the way in. This will give the deepest pleat. 4. Pleat the long edge of both pieces of linen. 5. Repeat with the two long edges of the lining fabric. 6. Lightly press the pleats so they lay flat. 7. Remove the ruffler and attach your Interchangeable Dual Feed. Snap on the Changeable Zig Zag foot. 8. Fold one of the band pieces right sides together, lenthwise (it will now measure 3 x 14 ) and stitch the two short edges aligning the edge of the foot with the edge of the fabric. Repeat for the other band piece. Page 4 of 6

9. Clip the corners, turn and press. 10. Insert the INSPIRA In-R-Form. 11. Select left needle position straight stitch, A1:1. 12. Stitch aligning the edge of the foot with the fold of the fabric. 13. Continue stitching rows of quilting, aligning the edge of the foot with the previous row of stitching to complete four rows of quilting total. 14. Repeat with the other band. 15. Place the 2 x 13½ Steam-A-Seam strip on the 2 x 13½ INSPIRA In-R-Form strip. Press lightly without steam on the paper side of the Steam-A-Seam. 16. Remove the paper backing and center one of the fused pieces on a 2½ x 14 fabric strip. Repeat with the other fused piece and fabric strip. 17. With the fabric up, press with steam to fuse the INSPIRA In-R-Form to the fabric. 18. Remove the Interchangeable Dual Feed and replace the ankle. 19. Select stitch A1:2. 20. Snap on your Clear ¼ Piecing Foot w/guide. 21. Now, place right sides together with the other 2½ x 14 fabric. Stitch as shown, along the edge of the INSPIRA In-R-Form, leaving a 3 opening along the center of one long edge. 22. Clip the corners, turn and press. Hand stitch the openings closed. 23. Place the outer bag pieces right sides together. 24. Stitch the side and bottom seams. 25. Place the lining pieces right sides together. 26. Stitch the side and bottom seams leaving a 6 opening along the bottom seam for turning. 27. Match the side and bottom seams and measure in 2½ as shown. Mark a line using your Pictogram Pen. Page 5 of 6 2014 KSIN Luxembourg II, S.ar.l. VIKING and INSPIRA are trademarks of KSIN Luxembourg II, S.ar.l. HUSQVARNA is a trademark of 2½

28. Repeat for both bottom corners of the bag and lining. 29. Stitch across the line. 30. Pin the band right sides together along the top of the outer bag matching the raw edges. Ease the bag in as needed. 31. Stitch the band in place, near the raw edge. 32. Repeat with the other band. 33. Turn through the opening in the lining. 34. Topstitch the opening closed. 35. Pin the handles in place 3 apart, centered. They should overlap onto the band by two quilting lines. Stitch a rectangle, attaching them to the bag. 36. Select the button sew on stitch, B1:16. 37. Tack the flowers to the bag, clustered around one handle. Page 6 of 6
