Log In Begin at our Campus Connection page (http://campus.mcla.edu) and look down the left hand side for the image Learning Portfolio button. Login to Learning Portfolio on the campus connection site using your regular A# and password. 3
Understanding Your eportfolio Homepage a) The Quick Start Guide (pdf) is a fantastic resource for getting you up to speed with how to use the eportfolio. You will find a copy of at the end of this document. b) My e-portfolios will list all the portfolios you have access to and are working on. On your own desktop, you should see a Sample Teaching Portfolio. This is the one you will be working on first. c) You may have classes or be enrolled in departments/majors here at MCLA that will be asking you to submit information to Buckets. You will find these areas listed here. What is a bucket? Buckets are assessment areas where we collect artifacts (documents, reflections, pages of your portfolio) to help MCLA assess how well we are doing when it comes to teaching, learning and supporting student life. 4
Selecting a Portfolio and understanding the space The Header This area contains the primary navigation tools. You can switch between Edit and Publish. In Edit Mode you can add Modules and edit information that is already on the page. In Publish Mode you can see what the page would look like to a visitor on the web in other words someone who isn t logged in. To the right, you can see Portfolio Tools. This space is very, very important and you will be using this button first in the next step. The Portfolio Tools contains the following options: Settings Basic Information including e-portfolio Title, e-portfolio Web Address, Contact Email and Categories. Visual Styles including your directory icon, your portfolio header and your footer. Permission Settings & Tagging this section includes information about who can see your portfolio. Submit You will be asked to submit pages of your portfolio for different assessment areas. We will provide more information on this section, once the assessment areas are established. Download Leaving MCLA and want to take a copy of your portfolio with you? Use the download option to copy your portfolio to your computer. Make A Copy The Sample First Year Portfolio is a template, you will need to copy this portfolio before you can begin to customize it. You will find instructions on this tool on the on page X. Delete Did you make an extra copy or did you create a new one but now want to delete the entire portfolio. Use this tool to do that. Please do not delete the Sample First Year Portfolio. 5
Submit Work MCLA Sample eportfolio Submission Instructions Bucket Time Remember our bucket system? In the next few pages, we will show you how to submit your assignments to the buckets. Bucket submission is the final step in portfolio development, and is essential for MCLA to assess and improve our programs. We hope you will assist us in this very important work by sumbitting your portfolio pages. How to submit Begin by going to Portfolio Tools and selecting Submit. This will begin the submission process. There are four major steps to successfully complete a submission process. They are: Choose Course/Assessment Group This feature allows you to submit parts of an eportfolio as a form of evidence, to a course or assessment group (a bucket). If you are in a FYE experience course, you should find that course listed here. Choose Assignment The assignmetns in the course or assessment (bucket) you chose are shown here. For the FYE portfolio, you will find the assignments are the same as the sections in your portfolio. Bio, First Days, FYE Course, Goals and Resume. Choose Assignment Step The steps inside the assignment are show here. For the FYE course, there will be only one step listed here, My Evidence My Evidence refers to the information you typed into each page. eportfolio The pages in your e-portfolio are shown at left. Please check the pages you would like to submit and enter optional comments below. After submission, a copy of your e-portfolio will be made from all of the submitted pages. However, the navigation structure of your e-portfolio submission will be collapsed as much as possible while still 6
retaining the necessary navigation hierarchy. This newly submitted e-portfolio, although slightly different than your original e-portfolio, is more organized and succinct. If there is a red * next to an item, it indicates unpublished content on the page. If you include this page, the most recently published version will be submitted. 7
Course/Assessment Group Below is a samle submission for Joe Student. In this step, Joe selected his current FYE course. 8
Assignment In this step, Joe selects the Assignment, or page he would like to submit. Here, he has selected Goals. 9
Step In this screenshot, you can see that Joe has selected My Evidence. For the First Year Experience, there is only one step for each assignment. Later in your time at MCLA, you may find that you have several steps you need to complete for each assignment. But for today, just choose My Evidence. 10
eportfolio Finally, you need to select the page from your portfolio that aligns with the step on the previous page. In this case, Joe would select Goals as that is the Assignment & Step he is working on. Once he is done, he can click Save & Submit and repeat the process for any other assignment he may have left. 11
