Special Collections, University Libraries, University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Las Vegas, Nevada. Historical Note The Southern Nevada Community Concerts Association (SNCCA) was founded on January 7, 1937, under the name of the Columbia Concert Association. It was a part of the movement of community concert associations that had begun to appear in the 1920s on the East Coast of the United States. All of the associations had a shared goal: "to offer every man, woman, and child in this country the opportunity to experience the magic of live performance by bringing artists and audiences together." Later in 1937, the Columbia Concert Association became the Cooperative Concert Association of Las Vegas. Initially the organization was only able to afford to bring soloist acts to town, but by the 1950s and 1960s it booked larger groups of orchestras and ballet companies. In 1952, the organization made is final name change to the SNCCA. The first concerts, in 1938, were held in the War Memorial Building located on Stewart Avenue, which was replaced by the Las Vegas City Hall. Between the 1940s and early 1970s, the SNCCA moved several times - Page 3-

before making its home at the Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall on the campus of the Univeristy of Nevada, Las Vegas in 1977. After 68 years of service, SNCCA dissolved in 2004, making the 2003-2004 its final season.
