INTRODUCTION 3 The Point Park University athletic logo was created in 2011. Its purpose is to give the University s athletic program a unique brand identity. The marks included in this section are restricted in use to the University s intercollegiate athletic programs as administered by the Department of Athletics. Any uses of the athletic logos beyond athletic purposes require the permission of the Director of Athletic Communications and/or the Director of Organizational Identity.
PRIMARY LOGO 4 Point Park Pioneers Logo The cornerstone of the Point Park athletics identity is the primary logo. The primary logo is the preferred athletic mark and should be used on the majority of athletic communications. The primary logo in full color should be used first and foremost. Additional color options are available on the coming pages. Point Park s primary athletic logo depicts the school name as well as the nickname for the athletic teams Pioneers. The words Point Park use the font Vitesse Bold. The word Pioneers uses a custom font that should not be used for any other words or copied in any way. Pioneers is the only word that should ever appear in that typeface. The Bison is a central figure in the athletics mark, and it has long been a symbol associated with the University s sports programs. Dating back to 1967 68, the first year of Point Park sports versus four-year competition, the Bison has been a mascot for the school. The Bison depicted in the logo is the American Bison. Point Park s original mascot, Black Diamond II, was a live American Bison. Point Park s sports teams will carry the nickname that they ve always been known by Pioneers. The primary logo depicts the Downtown Pittsburgh environment of which Point Park is a part. In the back left are iconic pieces of the Pittsburgh skyline. In the back right are two central pieces to the Point Park campus Lawrence Hall and Academic Hall which are connected by the pedestrian bridge above Wood Street. Below the nickname Pioneers, Fort Duquesne is symbolized. The shape at the bottom of the logo depicts the walls of Fort Duquesne, which was located in the area now known as Point State Park, before it was destroyed in 1758. The University derives its name from Point State Park, which is at the meeting place of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers. The full-color, primary logo includes the colors Green (PMS 341), Vegas Gold (PMS 459), Black and White.
PRIMARY LOGO 5 Color Variations of Primary Logo When the full-color version of the primary logo cannot be used, the only other approved versions of the primary logo are as follows: Green (PMS 341) and Vegas Gold (PMS 459), Green, Black and Reverse. Note: the alternate color options should only be used after carefully considering usage of the full-color logo where at all possible. The colors of the logo cannot be used in any way that is not depicted here. FULL COLOR GREEN GREEN AND VEGAS GOLD BLACK REVERSE
LOGOTYPE 6 Point Park Pioneers Logotype The Point Park Pioneers Logotype offers a depiction of the University name and nickname without the Bison mascot and the city skyline. This mark should only be used as a secondary mark to the primary logo. The Point Park Pioneers Logotype features the University name and the Pioneers nickname set against at predetermined border. It also includes the Fort Duquesne symbol in the front. All elements of this mark retain their same characteristics as shown in the primary logo. The logotype can be used in Full Color, Green (PMS 341) and Vegas Gold (PMS 459), Green, Black and Reverse. The Full Color version should be used where at all possible. TYPE TREATMENT 7 Point Park Pioneers Type Treatment A variation of the Point Park Pioneers Logotype is the use of the type treatment without the pre-determined border and without the Fort Duquesne symbol in the front. The words Point Park should appear in the Vitesse Bold font while Pioneers should be in the custom font. It is preferred that the type treatment retains its 15% arc, but it is also acceptable to use zero arc. Approved colors for the type treatment are Green (PMS 341), Vegas Gold (PMS 459), Black and Reverse. GREEN BLACK VEGAS GOLD ZERO ARC REVERSE
BISON HEAD 8 Point Park Pioneers Bison Head The Bison head may be used by itself in certain cases. Because this mark emphasizes solely the Bison and does not include the school name or nickname Pioneers, it is important that it be used as a secondary mark. The primary logo should be used on a majority of athletic communications. The only approved version of the Bison by itself is the Bison head. The Bison s full body should never be pulled out of the primary logo and used by itself in any way. Color variations of the Bison head include Full Color, Green (PMS 341) and Vegas Gold (PMS 459), Green and Black. FULL COLOR GREEN REVERSE GREEN AND GOLD BLACK
MONOGRAM LOGO 9 Point Park Pioneers P Monogram Logo The P monogram logo is reserved solely for use on in-game hats to be worn in official game action. That is the only approved use of the P by itself. Sports that may use it for this purpose are baseball, softball and golf. Approved color options include Green (PMS 341) and Vegas Gold (PMS 459), Black and Reverse. GREEN AND GOLD BLACK REVERSE
