ASSEMBLY SAFETY and HELPFUL HINTS STOP!!! Check all parts and hardware before beginning. If any parts are missing or damaged please circle and call the phone number listed. DO NOT CONTACT THE STORE OR RETURN YOUR PLAYSET! KEEP THIS INSTALLATION MANUAL FOR FUTURE CARE AND MAINTENANCE REFERENCE. To aid in making your playset assembly easier, here is a listing of some helpful hints. Wear safety glasses during drilling, assembly of your playset. Children should not be allowed in the playset assembly and build area. Note the hole orientation on parts to avoid having to take parts apart later. Some steps require the assistance of two people to ensure proper assembly, safety during assembly, as well as preventing any damage to the playset. *IMPORTANT INFORMATION* All hex bolts and lag screws require a lock washer or lock nut. To properly install lock nuts, two to three threads must protrude past the lock nut and be exposed once tightened. Acorn nuts provide protection in case screw threads protrude past a surface. Extra acorn nuts are provided for this reason. Please be certain to use these acorn nuts in the event this condition arises. If a bolt does not engage in a T-Nut, it may be necessary to first install without the washers and grab the T-Nut. Then back-out the bolt and install with specified washers. Due to wood characteristics and the manufacturing process hex bolts may protrude past a surface. If this condition occurs add additional supplied washers to eliminate bolt protrusion. To aid in proper assembly pound T-nuts into their respective hole prior to assembly Pound in T-nuts while the part is on the ground to ensure proper seating. Use a soft material under parts when pounding in T-nuts to ensure no scratching or de-facing of parts. Make sure all fasteners used are as specified. Using a fastener not specified in a particular application may result in too much thread exposure or not enough thread engagement. 3

SAFETY WARNINGS Please read carefully. Observing the following statements and warnings reduces the likelihood of serious or fatal injury. This playset is recommended for children (3) through (11) years of age. Adult supervision is required for children of all ages. Dress children appropriately. Avoid loose fitting clothes, coats, scarves, drawstrings and other articles of clothing that may get caught in the swing set. Instruct children to use equipment sensibly. Children should not twist rope or chains. Children should avoid swinging empty seats. Children should sit in the center of the seat, with their full weight on the seat. Never allow children to stand or kneel on a swing. Only one child per swing at a time. Children should not get off moving equipment. Children should not walk close to, in front of, behind, or between moving items. Children should not walk or run up slide. Children should not pick up ramps or slides as this may cause breakage. Our equipment should not be installed or erected on any hard surface such as asphalt, concrete or packed earth. A fall onto a hard surface can result in serious injury to the equipment user. Place the equipment on level ground not less than six (6) feet from any obstructions. Do not use the equipment until fully erected, bolts tightened, and structure is anchored to the ground. Children should not play on the playset when it is wet. Slippery surfaces may cause a hazard. Verify that suspended climbing ropes, chains, or cables are secured at both ends and cannot be looped back on itself. Do not loop chains or ropes over their top supports so as not to reduce the strength of these ropes and chains. Instruct children not to attach items to the playground equipment such as, but not limited to, jump ropes, clothesline, pet leashes, cables and chain as they may cause a strangulation hazard. Instruct children to not use this playset or any part of it for any other purpose than its intended use. For safety do not cut ends of ropes as this may cause an unraveling condition. Instead, tie knots in end of remaining rope keeping ends intact and sealed. NOTICE: This playset product is not intended for public use. It is intended for residential application and is not warranted for public or commercial use. These statements are in accordance with the Consumer Safety Standards Guide. 4

MAINTENANCE Periodic maintenance is required to ensure safe enjoyment of your playset and accessories. Activity on your playset and optional accessories may loosen fasteners. Check all lock nuts, hex and lag bolts, quick clips, retainer rings, acorn nuts, wood screws and swing hangers for tightness and tighten as required. T-nuts should be inspected for full and proper seating into the wood. Check and tighten all fasteners twice monthly during the usage season. It is particularly important that this procedure be followed at the beginning and end of each season. Checking and surface cracking are characteristics of all wooden playsets. This is caused by seasonal varying temperatures and moisture conditions. To minimize this checking and/or cracking you may coat your playset with a sealant or preservative. The color of your playset is from a process called MicroShade and involves adding colorant into the wood as it is pressure treated. It means colorant is throughout the wood which helps minimize any surface marking being visible. The appearance of your playset with MicroShade will last about two years with no stain or water sealant application. You may wish to apply a water sealant which will benefit the wood and help minimize splitting and checking. If the stakes that anchor the set down become loose, detach them, drive them into the ground in a different area and screw them to the set again. All hardware is plated to prevent premature rusting. Although they are plated, some may eventually experience surface rust. This will not affect their strength. Oil all metallic moving parts monthly during the usage period. To eliminate squeaks, spray with WD-40 or other household lubricant. Check swing seats, ropes, cables, and chains monthly during usage season for evidence of deterioration. Check rope on all accessories for extensive wear. To help prevent pre-mature deterioration of rope and accessories, detach and store during the off season. Instruct your children not to twist ropes or chains, since this may reduce the strength of the rope or chain. Tents, Sandbox Cover, Trapeze, Tire, Swings and Slides should be removed and stored indoors once temperature turns 10 F. or lower. Extended exposure to these temperatures can shorten the life of your swing sets components. When you are ready to dispose of your playset, make sure that all metal, plastic and wood components are disposed of in accordance with local waste ordinances. 5

PLAYGROUND SURFACING MATERIALS X3.CONSUMER INFORMATION SHEET FOR PLAYGROUND SURFACING MATERIALS 9. X3.1 The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) estimates that about 100,000 playground equipment related injuries resulting from falls to the ground surface are treated annually in U.S. hospital emergency rooms. Injuries involving this hazard pattern tend to be among the most serious of all playground injuries, and have the potential to be fatal, particularly when the injury is to the head. The surface under and around playground equipment can be a major factor in determining the injury-causing potential of a fall. It is self evident that a fall onto a shock absorbing surface is less likely to cause a serious injury than a fall onto a hard surface. Playground equipment should never be placed on hard surfaces such as concrete or asphalt and while grass may appear to be acceptable it may quickly turn to hard packed earth in areas of high traffic. Shredded bark mulch, woodchips, fine sand or fine gravel are considered to be acceptable shock absorbing surfaces when installed and maintained at a sufficient depth under and around playground equipment. X3.2 Table X3.1 lists the maximum height from which a child would not be expected to sustain a life-threatening head injury in a fall onto four different loose-fill surfacing materials if they are installed and maintained at depths of 6, 9, and 12 in. TABLE X3.1 Fall Height in Feet From Which a Life Threatening Head Injury Would Not Be Expected Type of Material Double Shredded Bark Mulch Wood Chips Fine Sand Fine Gravel 6 in. depth 9 in. depth 12 in. depth 6 10 11 6 7 12 5 5 9 6 7 10 However, it should be recognized that all injuries due to falls cannot be prevented no matter what surfacing material is used. X3.3 It is recommended that a shock absorbing material should extend a minimum of 6 ft in all directions from the perimeter of stationary equipment such as climbers and slides. However, because children may deliberately jump from a moving swing, the shock absorbing material should extend in the front and rear of a swing a minimum distance of 2 times the height of the pivot point measured from a point directly beneath the pivot on the supporting structure. X3.4 This information is intended to assist in comparing the relative shock-absorbing properties of various materials. No particular material is recommended over another. However, each material is only effective when properly maintained. Materials should be checked periodically and replenished to maintain correct depth as determined necessary for your equipment. The choice of a material depends on the type and height of the playground equipment the availability of the material in your area, and its cost. 9 This information has been extracted from the CPSC publications Playground Surfacing Technical Information Guide and Handbook for Public Playground Safety. Copies of these reports can be obtained by sending a postcard to the: Office of Public Affairs, U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission, Washington, D.C., 20207 or call the toll-free hotline :1-800-638-2772 6
