BACKGROUND: The creative economy which includes audiovisual products, design, new media, performing arts, publishing and visual arts is not only one of the most rapidly growing sectors of the world economy, it is also a highly transformative one in terms of income generation, job creation and export earnings. Between 2002 and 2011, developing countries averaged 12.1 per cent annual growth in exports of creative goods. In light of the above, CARICOM Member Governments adopted the Creative Industries as one of the nine priority areas identified as best bets for Caribbean development. While creating jobs, the creative economy contributes to the overall well-being of communities, individual self-esteem and quality of life, thus achieving inclusive and sustainable development, thus Governments of developing countries are encouraged to invest in the development of their creative sectors. While the Caribbean boasts a particularly vibrant contemporary arts community, based on available records, a performing arts tradition that stretches back to a genesis of the cultural folk story-telling through song and theatrical community type performances, most creatives still view the sector as a hobby. While they may want to move forward, they are not equipped with the necessary tools for them to compete in today s entertainment world. We believe that once individuals are given the resources i.e. training to compete in the entertainment industry, recipients will be able to market themselves competently in their surrounding communities as well as within the wider world. In recognition of the need to bridge that gap from talented hobbyist to creative performer, C-PAF has commenced plans for the hosting of the inaugural Caribbean Performing Arts Conference (C-PAC), one of its annual flagship events, in Dominica on May 30 th and 31 st, 2017 and a fund raising concert on June 3 rd featuring local, regional and international performing artistes. The inaugural conference will focus on the development of music utilizing the skills of Paris based, Dominican music legend, Gordon Henderson. Other training sessions will focus on the development of the business, management and legal aspects of the creative industry sector. Future conferences will focus on Fashion and Theatre Arts/Film production.

The Live Concert Fund Raiser is being co-sponsored by our strategic international partner Big Mountain/360 Artiste and Tour Management of Canada who have decided to align with the C-PAF efforts to present effectively a winning concert which would make a definite dynamic contribution to the C-PAF economy. The Live Concert would present an opportunity for local, and participating regional and international artistes to open the show sharing stage with the Headlining Artistes from 360 Management. This inaugural C-PAC 2017 concert is being proposed with a Tour Package organized by Big Mountain/360 Management showcasing Kenny Blake of Canada but subject to country specific Line Ups for best turnout and as a result a profitable venture.
