Day 1. Opening Session Opening Remarks: Mr. Jong-Soo Yoon, Head of Office, UNOSD Mr. Jong-Soo Yoon is the former Vice-Minister of Environment and an environmental expert in sustainable development. With over 20 years at the Ministry of Environment, he has focused on the establishment and delivery of policies through various projects in planning and budget, personnel management and other major tasks. Previous roles include Assistant minister of the Environmental Policy Department, Director General of Water Supply and Sewerage Bureau and Director General of the Waste Circulation Bureau, Director General of Air and Climate change Bureau, among many others. Mr. Yoon has also contributed at the international platform on environment as an Environmental Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations. Welcoming Remarks: Ms. Wha-Jin Han, Vice President of Korea Environment Institute Ms. Wha-Jin Han is the Vice President of Korea Environment Institute since 2010. Ms. Han is also a member of Nuclear Safety Committee. Her previous assignments include Presidential office Cheong Wa Dae secretary for environment, Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy National Energy Advisory Committee Member, National Committee for Sustainable Development Member, Director of Policy Research Division, Korea Environment Institute, Senior Researcher, Korea Environment Institute. Keynote Address: Mr. Ki-Jong Woo, Former Commissioner of Statistics Korea Mr. Ki-Jong Woo is the current Vice-Chairman of the Statistics Committee, OECD. His role is to improve member states' national and regional statistics and determine key statistical issues, as well as promote international cooperation in the Asia-Pacific Division of Statistics. In the past he has worked as Commissioner with the Statistics Korea (KOSTAT). Mr. Woo also was a Green Growth Planning Leader at Green Growth Committee. Introductory Remarks: Mr. Sang-In Kang, Senior Development Manager Expert, UNOSD Mr. Sang-In Kang is the Senior Development Manager Expert. Over the past 15 years, Mr. Kang has worked with the Korea Environment Institute as Senior research fellow, General Director of Global Strategy Center as well as Sub-committee member of Presidential Committee on Sustainable Development of Korea. Mr. Kang has also served in the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities and Social Sciences of Korea and the OECD Environment directorate as consultant on Climate Change and Green Growth. 1
Session 1: Post-2015 Development Framework Chair: Mr. Sang-In Kang, Senior Development Manager Expert, UNOSD Rapporteur: Mr. Tetsuo Yoshida, Task Manager, IGES Current Progress, On-going Processes and Perspectives of the Post-2015 Development Framework Speaker: Mr. David le Blanc, Senior Sustainable Development Officer, UNDESA. Mr. David Le Blanc is an economist. He is currently working in the Division for Sustainable Development in the United Nations Secretariat in New York. While at the UN, he has worked on financing, integrated scenarios and strategies for sustainable development, mining and sustainable development assessments. Prior to joining the United Nations, David worked at the World Bank as Senior Economist in the Urban and Housing Finance groups, focusing on projects and technical assistance on housing policy, housing subsidies, and housing finance. Earlier in his career, David worked at the French Statistical Institute (INSEE) as official statistician and CREST, Paris as a research fellow. 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns in the Post-2015 Development Framework Speaker: Mr. Stefanos Fotiou, Senior Regional Coordinator, UNEP Mr. Stefanos Fotiou is an expert on sustainable development and currently serving as the UNEP Senior Regional Coordinator on "Resource Efficiency" for the Asia and the Pacific Region. Under his portfolio he is coordinating the; regional implementation of UNEP s initiatives on Resource Efficiency including Green Economy, Sustainable Consumption and Production, relations with Industry, CSR, and other areas. His professional experience includes assignments for the European Commission, work for the private sector and posts in research and academic institutes. Challenges in Measuring Progress in post-2015 development framework Speaker: Ms. Grazyna Pulawska, Project Executive, Asia-Europe Foundation Ms. Grazyna Pulawska is the Project Executive at the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF). Her priority is for the Asia-Europe Environment Forum programme, which aims to strengthen co-operation between Asian and European stakeholders in the field of international framework for sustainable development. Most recently, she has been working on inter-regional consultations with regard to research on sustainable development governance. Prior to joining ASEF, Ms Pulawska worked for the Ministry of Economy in Poland in the field of regional development. She is active in the NGO community and has been working as a freelance trainer specialising in project management, citizenship and volunteering for the different international youth organizations. 2
Session 2: Development of Urban Sustainability Diagnostic System Chair: Mr. Stefanos Fotiou, Senior Regional Coordinator, UNEP Rapporteur: Ms. Maria Martinho, Sustainable Development Officer at the Global Policy Branch, Statistics Division, UNDESA System Dynamics for Urban Sustainability Analysis Speaker: Mr. Matteo Pedercini, Director for Capacity Development and Modeling, Millennium Institute Mr. Matteo Pedercini has been involved in the field of sustainable development since 1999, and holds a PhD and a Masters in System Dynamics from the University of Bergen, Norway. Over the last 10 years he has worked for the Millennium Institute, where he is currently director for capacity development and modeling. He has developed several simulation models for municipal, national, regional, and global sustainable development planning, and has collaborated with governmental and international institutions in the preparation of long-term planning strategies. He teaches system dynamics for development planning at the University of Bergen and other MI s partner universities, and has been leading training programs for development professionals in many countries. Governance Mechanisms to Implement Post-2015 Development Agenda at National and Local Level The Expected Challenges and Roles of International Organizations Speaker: Mr. Tetsuo Yoshida, Task Manager, Integrated Policies for Sustainable Societies Area, Institute for Global Environment Strategies (IGES), Japan Mr. Tetsuro Yoshida has been working for the Institute of Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) since 2011 as senior policy researcher and his research focus has been on international environmental governance including SDGs/Post 2015 Development Agenda and renewable energy policy in developing countries. Previously, he worked as protection and programme officer for the UNHCR and his assignment included the management of environmental projects (e.g. energy, agro-forestry, reforestation and environmental education) in refugee camps and their hosting communities in Asia and Africa and policy formulation for guiding UNHCR s environment and climate change related activities. SDGs for Mega Urban Jakarta Speaker: Mr.Raldi Koestoer, Senior Adviser to the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs in Innovation Technology and Environment / Climate Change, Indonesia Mr. Raldi Koestoer is a Senior Adviser (in Innovation Technology and Environment) to the Minister for Economic Affairs-Republic of Indonesia. He is also a Senior Official Indonesia for IMT GT (Indonesia. Malaysia, Thailand Growth Triangle) and BIMP EAGA (Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area). Mr. Koestoer holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Studies from Griffith University, Australia. 3
Assessment in Practice: Green City Speaker: Mr. Young Woon Ban, Professor, Chungbuk National University Mr. Young Woon Ban is a Professor, Department of Urban Engineering, Chungbuk National University. Prior to this position, Mr. Ban was an Assistant Professor at the Department of Environmental Studies, Louisiana State University, U.S.A. he also worked as Senior Researcher at the Department of Regional Development, Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements (KRIHS). Session 3: Measuring Environmental Welfare in Socio-environmental Interface of Sustainable Development Chair: Mr. M. David Le Blanc, Senior Sustainable Development Officer, DSD, UNDESA Rapporteur: Ms. Grazyna Pulawska, Project Executive, ASEF Integrating the Three Dimensions into Monitoring Framework of the SDGs Speaker: Ms. Maria Martinho, DSD, UNDESA Ms. Maria Martinho is currently a statistician at the Statistics Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations, which she joined in 2004. She has worked on social statistics and MDG monitoring and, for many years, was part of the team preparing the annual MDG report for the UN General Assembly. In 2011-12, she was on a special assignment at the UN Division for Sustainable Development to provide support to the organization of the Rio+20 Conference. In this Division, she worked on sustainable development indicators and inequality measures and was the focal point for negotiations on Sustainable Development Goals. After this special assignment, Ms. Martinho returned to the UN Statistics Division, and she is currently working on issues related to gender and environment. Measuring Environmental Welfare Speaker: Mr. Hoi-Seong Jeong, President, Institute for Environment and Civilization Mr. Hoi-Seong Jeong is president of the Institute for the Environment and Civilization, visiting professor at Hallym University, and president of the Korea Environmental Policy and Administration Society. He has served as president of the Korea Environmental Institute and advised for many governmental and private organizations, including the Presidential Commission on Sustainable Development. He has written several books and articles, including Understanding Environmental Policy (Parkyeonga Publisher s Company, 2003, co-author) and Environment and Civilization at the Turning point (Jimo Publisher's Company, 2009). 4
Measuring Welfare and Happiness in Bhutan Speaker: Mr. Phuntsho Wangyel, Senior Research Officer, Gross National Happiness Commission, Bhutan Mr. Phuntsho Wangyel is a policy analyst heading the policy unit under the Research and Evaluation Division, Gross National Happiness Commission, Bhutan. He is currently responsible the review of all policies proposed by the royal government and screening of polices for alignment to GNH. He is also engaged in the integration of Gender, Environment, Climate Change, Disaster, and Poverty concerns in all government policies, plans, and program at all levels. Mr. Wangyel holds a Post Graduate Diploma and a Masters in International and Development Economics from the Australian National University. Development of Environmental Welfare Indicators Sets Speaker: Mr. Jang Min Chu, Senior Research Fellow, KEI Mr. Jang Min Chu is Senior Research Fellow at KEI. Prior to joining KEI, Mr. Chu worked at Daekyung Chinese Environment Institute in China as Project Manager and Director, and at Mitsubishi Kagaku Institute of Life Science in Japan as Affiliated Technical Staff. His research publications included such areas as climate change adaptation, green growth, green economy and other environmental topics. 5
