Getting Started We have created this Service & Repair Guide t assist yu with the servicing f yur PhtVu. This guide is designed t help yu disassemble the PhtVu fr repair. Once the internal parts are accessible, advanced cmputer trubleshting skills will be required t diagnse and repair the issue. All PhtVu mdels are cvered with the exceptin f the PV1900, PV1040, PV1045, and PV1540. These mdels are nt repairable. Additinal help and technical infrmatin can be fund at www.phtvu.cm/supprt and www.phtvu.cm/help. Determine Yur Generatin f PhtVu Mdel There are three majr generatins f PhtVu digital picture frames. In sme cases, a mdel number might verlap several generatins as in the PV2265. Generatin One (G1) PhtVu mdels in this generatin include the 1740, 1740s, 1750, 1910, 1940, 1940s, 1940dc, 1940sdc, 1945, 1950, 1960, 1965, and 1965w. G1 units have tw majr enclsure parts: a bdy husing the electrnics and a tw-part bracket that hlds the LCD panel. Generatin Tw (G2) PhtVu mdels in this generatin include the 1965, 1965w, and 2265w. G2 units have a single enclsure that hlds all the electrnics and LCD panel. Generatin Three (G3) PhtVu mdels in this generatin include the 2265w, 2265wds, 2270w, 2270wds, 2275w, and 2275wds. G3 units have an internal munting plate fr the electrnics and LCD panel, a rear enclsure cver, and a faceplate that hlds the matbard and picture frame. In the steps belw, yu will cnfirm yur PhtVu generatin nce yu remve the picture frame and matbard. Remving the Picture Frame This step requires use f a #1 Phillips head screwdriver. G1/G2 Units G1 and G2 units have picture frame munting brackets. One side f the bracket screws int the picture frame and the ther side int the PhtVu s rear bdy enclsure. Remve all screws and brackets frm yur PhtVu. - 3 -
G3 Units G3 units have bendable tabs. These tabs are then screwed int the picture frame. Yu shuld remve the screws. Yu shuld nw remve the picture frame. Remving the Matbard Fr the best results and reuse f yur matbard, we recmmend using a plastic putty knife. The matbard is held in place with a high-tack, duble-sided tape that is specific t the picture framing industry. While yu can try t peel back the matbard, there is a gd chance yu will damage it. G1/G2 Units G1 and G2 units have the matbard munted t an enclsure part. In all cases, the matbard must be remved t access the internal unit. G3 Units G3 units have the matbard munted t a remvable faceplate. In mst cases, the faceplate can be remved, leaving the matbard intact. Please see the sectin n Remving the Faceplate. Psitin the PhtVu face up. Start at a crner f the matbard. Insert the putty knife between the matbard and enclsure. Wrk yur way arund the matbard and slwly pry it up. Yu are trying t release the matbard frm the adhesive tape n the enclsure. It might take several runds. Yu can als use the putty knife in a sliding mtin t assist in the prcess. Once the matbard has been released, it is cmmn t find sme f the matbard backing n the enclsure. Yu can remve this by hand. Remving the Faceplate This step requires use f a #1 Phillips head screwdriver. G3 Units Only This step nly applies t G3 units. Turn the PhtVu face dwn. Yu will see 8 screws, 2 n each side, which hld the faceplate in place. Use the screwdriver and remve all screws. Remve the rear enclsure frm the faceplate. If the faceplate still appears t be attached t the enclsure, yu will need t turn the unit ver. D this by hlding bth the faceplate and the rear enclsure at the same time then flip the entire assembly. This step can be tricky but it is necessary. The prblem is that the matbard is partially glued t the bezel f the LCD panel. With the LCD facing yu, wrk frm ne crner and gently pry up the faceplate. The matbard shuld - 4 -
fllw with it. Sme f the matbard backing might remain n the LCD bezel. This is nrmal and remve it by hand. Remving the Rivets This step requires use f an electric handheld drill with a 1/8 bit r 3/16 bit and a #2 Phillips head screwdriver. All units use rivets t fasten the enclsure parts. G1 Units G1 units have 12 t 18 rivets. Sme mdels als use 2 r mre screws. Cunt all rivets befre yu remve them! This is very imprtant as each rivet has tw pieces, ne f which will drp int the enclsure f the PhtVu when yu drill it ut. Use the handheld electric drill and a 3/16 bit. The gal is t remve the tp part f the rivet. This DOES NOT require a lt f pressure. Drill the middle f each rivet. The tp piece f the rivet shuld cme lse. If nt, apply a bit mre pressure. If yu see screws within sme f the rivet hles, use the #2 Phillips head screwdriver t remve them. Please nte, the screws can be hard t remve s make sure yu use the apprpriate screwdriver. D nt strip these! The LCD bracket and panel shuld nw be lse. G2 Units G2 units have fur rivets, tw n either side f the enclsure. Use the handheld electric drill and a 3/16 bit. The gal is t remve the tp part f the rivet. This DOES NOT require a lt f pressure. Drill the middle f each rivet. The tp piece f the rivet shuld cme lse. If nt, apply a bit mre pressure. - 5 -
G3 Units G3 units have fur rivets, all are lcated n the rear enclsure. Use the handheld electric drill and a 1/8 bit. The gal is t remve the tp part f the rivet. This DOES NOT require a lt f pressure. Drill the middle f each rivet. The tp piece f the rivet shuld cme lse. If nt, apply a bit mre pressure. The rear enclsure cver shuld nw be lse. Remving the LCD Panel This step requires use f a 2.5mm x 8cm hex tl with a magnetic tip (G2 units nly). G1 Units The LCD bracket and panel shuld already be lse. Carefully lift up the bracket bttm a few inches and lk inside. This will give yu a view f the cabling s that yu can detach any pwer, VGA, r ther wires that wuld prevent yu frm remving the LCD panel cmpletely. Unplug the cables then remve LCD bracket and panel. G2 Units Remving the LCD panel can be very tricky. When yu drilled ut the side enclsure rivets, yu expsed fur access hles. Within these hles, there are fur hex screws that hld the LCD panel in place. Yu will need a 2.5mm x 8cm hex tl t lsen the screws. Dn t wrry if they fall int the enclsure. After the fur screws have been remved, yu must lift the LEFT side f the LCD panel first. Use the slts in the enclsure t pry the panel ut. - 6 -
Angle the left side f the LCD panel up and reach inside t remve the main cable LCD panel cable. Next, slide the LCD panel t the right t expse tw additinal LCD panel cables. After yu remve these, the LCD panel will be free. G3 Units The LCD panel DOES NOT need t be remved in rder t service yur unit. Lift the bttm f the rear enclsure cver a few inches. Ntice any cabling that might need t be detached prir t cmplete remval. Unplug the cables then remve the rear enclsure cver. Trubleshting the Prblem G1, G2, and G3 units fllw the same prcedure fr trubleshting. Remve all rivets and clean ut the inside f the enclsure! All PhtVu mdels have a mtherbard and LCD subsystem. The cnnectin between the tw subsystems is made at the VGA cable. When yu separate this, yu can test each subsystem independently. Once the failed subsystem is determined, cmpnent analysis can be perfrmed. Advanced cmputer trubleshting skills are required t diagnse and repair the issue. Specific diagnstic details are beynd the scpe f this dcument. Supplier List Fr yur reference, parts can be surced frm the fllwing suppliers.
