Cathedral Windows Centerpiece By Katrina Walker Like light shining through cathedral windows, the simple beauty of a running stitch design combined with sheer silk glows through the center of this stunning piece, suitable for gracing an elegant table or wall. Sewing Supplies HUSQVARNA VIKING DESIGNER DIAMOND Royale sewing and embroidery machine Clear Seam Guide Foot 413034845 Sensor Q-Foot 412597545 Edge/Joining Foot 412796845 DESIGNER Royal Hoop 360x200mm 412944501 INSPIRA Topstitch Needle size 90 620099096 INSPIRA Microtex Needle size 70 620104196 ½ yard silk organza ⅓ yard silk dupioni Embroidery thread contrasting color Sewing thread, same as silk color Glue stick Rotary mat, rotary cutter and 24" ruler Iron and ironing board or mat Seam gauge or fabric folding pen Prepare 1. Cut one 15 x22" piece of silk organza. 2. Cut two 6 x44" strips of silk dupioni; cut each strip in half lengthwise to create four 6 x22" strips. 3. Press under one long edge of each strip of dupioni ½" toward wrong side, using a Folding Pen and ruler, if possible. If not, use an iron and seam gauge. Page 1 of 5

4. Hoop DESIGNER Royal Hoop with 15 x22" piece of silk organza and set aside. 5. Thread your sewing and embroidery machine with embroidery thread and matching bobbin thread. 6. Touch Diamon Menu, SET Menu, Sewing Settings, and check to ensure the following features are deactivated: a. Sewing Settings: FIX Auto = Off. Automatic Jump Stitch Trim = Off. Create Star Design 1. 2. Remove the embroidered organza from the hoop and carefully trim jump stitch threads on top and bottom. Press. 3. Trim the embroidered organza into a rectangle measuring 7.5" x 16.5". 4. Insert one long raw edge of the organza, wrong sides together, into the fold of one dupioni strip, so that the raw edge of the organza is nestled against the crease of the fold. Tip: If organza is shifting, use a glue stick or pins to hold in place. 5. Thread your machine with embroidery thread and matching bobbin thread. 6. Snap on Clear Seam Guide Foot or the Standard Sewing Foot. 7. Select Stitch A1:2. 8. Using the Clear Seam Guide Foot or the stitch plate markings as a guide, stitch ½" away from the folded edge. Do not worry about catching the raw edge of the dupioni fold. 9. Press seam as sewn to set stitches, then open up organza and dupioni and press the seam toward the organza. 10. Snap on Edge/Joining Foot or attach Interchangeable Dual Feed with Changeable Decorative Foot. 11. Place pressed seam, right side up, against blade of foot. Adjust needle position to the side to the desired edge stitching position. Tip: Make a note of the position chosen for the next seam. 12. Edgestitch fold of seam to secure and finish flat-felled seam. Press. 13. Square off dupioni strip even with short ends of organza. 14. Select stitch A1:2 again to reset the needle position to center. 15. Repeat steps 4 14 for remaining 3 sides of organza using remaining dupioni strips. Square off ends after each seam is completed. Hem 1. Stay stitch approximately ½" from raw edge on all sides using Clear Seam Guide Foot. 2. Press stitching toward wrong side on one long edge, so that the stitching line is approximately 1 / 16 " 1 / 8 " from the folded edge. 3. Snap on Edge/Joining Foot or attach Interchangeable Dual Feed with Changeable Decorative Foot. Page 4 of 5

4. Place pressed seam, right side up, against blade of foot. Adjust needle position so that needle aligns with previous stitching. 5. Stitch on top of previous stitching. 6. Trim away raw edge very close to stitching. 7. Roll hem toward wrong side, so that a narrow hem with one row of stitching shows on the wrong side (no stitching shows on right side). 8. Check needle position alignment; adjust if necessary to stitch again on top of previous stitching. 9. Repeat steps 2-8 for the remaining three sides, trimming or tucking ends into hem as needed. Note: Some fabrics may be folded without the initial stay stitching line. In this instance, only two rows of stitching are needed to secure the hem. Initial stay stitching can be any distance from raw edge desired; ½" is chosen for this project. Enjoy decorating your home with your elegant new creation! Page 5 of 5
