Biographies in Brief Andrew Sheng, President, Fung Global Institute Andrew Sheng is well known in global financial circles as a former central banker and financial regulator in Asia and a commentator on global finance. As Fung Global Institute s President, Andrew is responsible for its operations and, with the support and advice of the Academic Board, for driving its research agenda and thought leadership. He is also the Chief Advisor to the China Banking Regulatory Commission and a Board Member of the Khazanah Nasional Berhad. In addition, he serves as a member of the International Advisory Council of the China Investment Corporation, the China Development Bank, and the Advisory Council on Shanghai as an international financial centre. Marc Hendriks, Chief Investment Officer, SandAire Family Office Marc is responsible for the performance of SandAire s investment activities. A regular chief, Marc was previously CIO of Thomas Miller where he spent over five years managing asset allocation and investment strategies for a range of clients. Prior to this, he spent 17 years working as chief economist for Societe General, Swiss Bank Corporation and Baring Brothers. Marc stays close to what matters in the global economy, evidenced by his chairmanship to the Wigmore Association, a global collaboration of six family office partners, and his consistent election to the Conference of Business Economics to discuss developments in the international economy. Jeremy Kosky, Partner, Litigation and Dispute Resolution London, Clifford Chance Jeremy has significant experience in big-ticket commercial litigation with a particular focus on contentious trusts and private equity disputes. He has acted for a variety of clients including financial institutions, settlors, trustees, protectors and beneficiaries. He has conducted cases in England, Cayman, Jersey, Guernsey, BVI and Bermuda and has taken several cases to trial. He also has substantial experience restructuring trusts, court approved variations and family-wide agreements. His experience includes acting on the high profile Thyssen-Bornemisza litigation which involved an attempt by the settlor to rescind a Bermuda law trust, acting for JP Morgan in the Alhamrani litigation in Jersey and acting for Brian Gilbertson against Viktor Vekselberg in Cayman in relation to claims for breach of fiduciary duty. He has authored the chapter on sham trusts in International Trust Disputes (OUP, 2012). He regularly presents to clients and at conferences.
Brian Gilchrist, Partner, Litigation and Dispute Resolution Hong Kong, Clifford Chance Brian has extensive experience in all aspects of general and civil litigation, involving the full range of contractual, tort and insolvency matters. He has a particular expertise in areas of banking, directors duties, minority shareholders rights, insurance, tax and trust, contentious probate and employment. Brian has over 15 years experience in Asia and is independently recognised as one of Hong Kong s leading litigators acting for a number of trustees and beneficiaries in respect of trust related litigation. He is an Accredited Mediator and is listed on the General Panel of both the Law Society of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre. Robert Petty, Managing Partner & Co- Founder, Clearwater Capital Partners Robert Petty co-founded Clearwater Capital Partners in 2001 and is Managing Partner and a member of the Firm s Investment and Management Committees. Over his distinguished career he has focused on investing in Asiadedicated special situations and credit investments including turnarounds, restructurings, stressed credits and distressedfor-control transactions. Clearwater s credit-oriented investment strategy has invested profitably across cycles, sectors and geographies and today is one of the largest credit investing firms in the region. Prior to Clearwater, Mr. Petty held senior positions at Amroc Investments LLC, Peregrine Fixed Income Ltd. and Lehman Brothers Holdings, Inc. Mr. Petty holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Brown University. Vincent Duhamel, Head of Asia, Lombard Odier & Cie Vincent Duhamel is responsible for Asia-Pacific and Japan. Vincent joined the firm from one of the largest family offices in Asia where he served as CEO. Prior to that, Vincent was a Managing Director of Goldman Sachs in Hong Kong, heading its asset management division in Asia. He moved to Asia in 1997 as the Chief Executive of Asia for State Street Global Advisors. During that period, Vincent was one of the key architects behind the market intervention and disposals of assets by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, in addition to being the project manager in assisting the Social Security Fund of China to develop its investment processes and policies. Vincent holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Political Science from University of Ottawa in Canada. Vincent is a member of the Financial Reporting Review Panel (FRRP) which is a part of the Financial Reporting Council, Hong Kong. He has also served as a CFA Institute Governor from 2000 to 2008 and served as Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Board of Governors in 2006 and 2007 respectively.
Thierry Lombard, Managing Partner, Lombard Odier & Cie A graduate in economics from the University of Geneva, Thierry Lombard joined Lombard Odier & Cie in 1972 and became a Managing Partner in 1982. After assuming many important responsibilities within the Group, he was Senior Partner from 1995 to 2008. Today he is involved in developing the thematic investment strategy as well as new skills and products within Lombard Odier Investment Managers. He is also responsible for the Communication Department and the management of the Group s human resources, chairing the staff pension foundations. Furthermore, he manages the strategic relationship between Lombard Odier and Generation Investment Management, created by David Blood and Al Gore. Representing the sixth generation as the head of the bank, Thierry Lombard is a strong supporter of family businesses. He is the Chairman of the Board of the Family Business Network International (FBN-I) and a member of the French association for medium-sized businesses (ASMEP-ETI). He is also the instigator and co-author of several books addressing the issues of succession, wealth, philanthropy, and investment. Thierry Lombard sits on the Board of the EPFL, supporting among other projects the Innogrants (which helps young students to realize innovative ideas with significant commercial potential). Moreover, he is active in several medical and humanitarian foundations. In particular, he chairs the Foundation for the International Committee of the Red Cross. David Blood, Senior Partner, Generation Investment Management David Blood is co-founder and Senior Partner of Generation Investment Management. Previously, he spent 18 years at Goldman Sachs including serving as co-ceo and CEO of Goldman Sachs Asset Management from 1999-2003. David received a B.A. from Hamilton College and an M.B.A. from the Harvard Graduate School of Business. He is on the Board of Harvest Power, New Forests, SHINE, Social Finance UK, Social Finance US, The Nature Conservancy, Fondation 1796 and Hamilton College; the Advisory Board of Bridges Ventures and the Harvard Business School Visiting Committee.
Al Gore, Chairman, Generation Investment Management Former Vice President Al Gore is co-founder and chairman of Generation Investment Management, a partnership that is focused on a new approach to sustainable investing. He is also co-founder and chairman of Current TV, an Emmy Award-winning, independent cable and satellite television news and information network based on viewer-created content and citizen journalism. In addition, Gore is a senior partner with the venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, a member of the board of directors of Apple and senior advisor to Google. Gore spends the majority of his time as chairman of the Alliance for Climate Protection, a non-profit focused on solutions to the climate crisis. Gore was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1976, 1978, 1980 and 1982 and the U.S. Senate in 1984 and 1990. He was inaugurated as the fortyfifth Vice President of the United States on January 20, 1993, and served eight years. During the Administration, Gore was a central member of President Clinton s economic team. He served as President of the Senate, a Cabinet member, a member of the National Security Council and as the leader of a wide range of Administration initiatives. He is the author of the bestsellers Earth in the Balance, An Inconvenient Truth, The Assault on Reason, and Our Choice: A Plan to Solve the Climate Crisis. He is the subject of an Oscar-winning documentary and is the co-recipient, with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for informing the world of the dangers posed by climate change.
