The sign-up and room deadlines are fast approaching. We are most eager to share the news about our November 14th meeting. We have the pleasure of bringing from the East Coast to Cleveland, Dr. Francis Boero, Group Leader for National IFT s Legalized Cannabis and Hemp Edibles working group. He will be presenting us with the latest and greatest information about this hot topic in relation to scientific applications in the food industry. This event (dinner details below) will take place at the former Acacia Country Club - now Acacia Metroparks - a lovely venue just off of I-271. For our out-of-towners we have reserved a discount block of 10 premium rooms at the newer Hyatt Place Hotel located very nearby at Legacy Village. Legalized Cannabis and Hemp Edibles Francis J. Boero Ph.D., CFS Dr. Francis Boero is a pragmatic, academically certified, scientific technology business specialist returning to food science after over 30-years in research and healthcare. An early interest in the then new field of information science led to him withdrawing from the hospitality industry and pursuing bachelor s degrees in Information Science and Physics at the University of California. Dr. Boero later went on to earn his Ph.D. in Physics at the University of Southern California. Post-graduation, Francis led R&D operations, and later commercial divisions for Newport Corporation, a scientific and analytic instrument business. After additional education in microbiology and process validation at the University of Minnesota, Dr. Boero held a series of US and international positions for Advanced Sterilization Products and later transitioned into commercial and division roles with the parent company, Johnson & Johnson. During his 21-years with J&J, he successively led business divisions in surgical products, consumer wellness, and laboratory analytics. Francis and his wife Kelley, became active in local food systems. Dr. Boero currently works for Gavenum, a specialty consultancy firm. He is serving as the Group Leader for IFT s Legalized Cannabis and Hemp Edibles Working Group. Francis and Kelley alternate residences between New Jersey and Maine. Their two children are beginning careers in medicine and engineering. Dr. Boero is a native Italian speaker and has lived with his family in six countries. (CV edited for space constraints)
