There are n hlds and users have simultaneus access t all titles. New titles are added every week frm independent publishers such as Algnquin, Open Rad Media, Surcebks, Sterling and Wrkman. In additin, Freading recently added hundreds f the LONELY PLANET guides t the cllectin. LONELY PLANET is the largest publisher f travel guides in the wrld. Their bks ffer affrdable ways t see the sites that yu want when yu travel. Inside the pages are must-have cultural insights, hnest reviews f htels and fd, tips n traveling with children, and hw t get arund like a lcal. There is n Freading app in the Kindle App stre yet, hwever, the Kindle Fire accepts 3rd party apps thrugh a few extra steps, including installing an app that allws fr nn-kindle apps t be dwnladed. Freading recmmends the SlideME app. Enabling yur Kindle Device t Accept 3 rd Party Apps In rder t lad the SlideMe and Freading apps n the Kindle Fire, first a device setting must be changed t allw the side lading f apps. By turning n side lading, the user can then install apps frm surces ther than the Amazn app stre. Please nte, the enable side lading prcedure varies based n the versin r generatin f yur Kindle Fire device. Instructins fr the newest Kindle Fire devices are first, fllwed by instructins fr previus generatins. New Kindle Fire/HD/HDX Devices: Select the Settings icn frm the App Menu. (See next page fr screenshts.) Under Persnal, tap Security. Under Advanced, tap the radial buttn next t Apps frm Unknwn Surces - Allw installatin f applicatins that are nt frm Appstre. Dwnlad & Install the SlideME & Freading Apps Yu will nw be able t dwnlad Freading thrugh the SlideME app. 1. In yur Silk brwser, g t http://m.slideme.rg and type Freading in the search bx. 2. Click n the Freading icn and yu will be led t a page where yu can dwnlad the app. 3. Click the buttn that reads Dwnlad lcated right abve the app's descriptin. Yu may als get a warning that this type f file can harm yur device. Tap OK. 4. The applicatin will dwnlad, but will nt install autmatically. 5. Open the dwnlad when prmpted r g directly t Dwnlads under the Kindle Fire s web brwser SILK s menu icn (the three hrizntal lines n the tp left). Tap the SlideMe dwnlad. Then tap Install. This will begin the SlideME installatin prcess. 6. When it has finished installing, tap Open, then, agree t the license agreement. 7. SlideME will nw pen and begin dwnlading the Freading App. If it des nt autmatically begin dwnlading, tap the Dwnlad buttn. 8. Tap Install t cmplete the installatin prcess. 9. Tap Launch t launch the app. Nte: Depending n the versin f Kindle yu have, yu may be prmpted t authrize the app with an Adbe Digital ID. If yu have an ID, enter it here. If yu d nt, tap Need help with Adbe ID? and fllw the prmpts t create an ID. Why d I need an Adbe ID? T prtect their rights, many publishers require the use f digital rights management (DRM) sftware t dwnlad library bks. In rder t dwnlad bks frm prgrams such as Freading, yu must first btain an Adbe ID and activate it n the devices yu wish t use t read yur bks. Adbe IDs are free and easy t btain. All yu need is a valid email address (this email address will becme yur Adbe ID). Yu may als btain an Adbe ID nline 1. G t Adbe.cm and click "Sign in" n the tp right crner f the page. Yu will be taken t the "Sign In" page where yu can either lg in using yur existing Adbe ID, r, if yu d nt have ne, create an Adbe ID. 2. Click the link that says Nt a member yet? Get an Adbe ID Yu will be taken t a new page where yu can create an accunt. 3. Enter the required infrmatin, and click Sign Up. Yu nw have an Adbe ID. Checking ut ebks within the Freading App 1. On the bttm f the Freading app screen tap Get Bks. 2. Tap the Lgin buttn n the tp f the screen f the Freading app. 3. Search fr the Harvard Public Library in the library search screen. Select Harvard Public Library in the search results n the bttm f the screen. 4. Enter yur Harvard Public Library Card Number (the barcde n the back f yur card enter with n spaces and if it begins with a "D" use a capital D) and PIN (yur PIN is the same ne that yu use t sign int the C/W MARS catalg. If yu have nt yet signed int the catalg, it is the last fur digits f yur phne number r yur last name in all capital letters.) 5. Brwse fr a bk by Pick f the Week, Featured Categries, r d a Keywrd search. 6. When yu find a bk yu want, tap n the bk. Next, tap Dwnlad EPUB. 7. A message will indicate when the dwnlad was successful. Chse the ptin t Find Mre r Read Nw. If yu chse Find Mre, the bk will be available in the Library sectin f the app. Nte: If yu are having prblems dwnlading, cnfirm yu are lgged in and tap My Dwnlads at the tp f the screen. Under the bk cver click n Dwnlad EPUB, r, Dwnlad PDF. 7. A windw will pen, asking if yu d like t G T Library, r Read Nw. If yu chse G T Library the bk will be available in the Library sectin f the app where yu will be taken. If yu chse t Read Nw, the bk will pen in the Freading app and yu may begin reading. Frequently Asked Questins What is the weekly checkut limit? Every Harvard Public Library cardhlder has a weekly limit f 9 bks. In the upper right crner, there is a cunter which says hw many bks yu have used, and hw many are remaining. Example: 1/9 means the limit is 9 bk lans per week, and yu have used 1. Hw lng d I have the ebk fr and can I renew a bk? All Freading ebks circulate fr a 2-week initial perid. A bk can be renewed fr ne 2-week perid by ging back t the bk display n the website and hitting the dwnlad buttn again. Hw d I delete an expired title frm the Freading app? Tap n the Library icn n the bttm f the screen. Next tap the Edit icn (a pencil) in the upper right hand crner. Red Xs will appear in the upper right hand crner f each bk cver. Tap the red x next t the cver f the bk yu wish t delete. A ppup will appear asking if yu are sure yu want t permanently delete the item. Tap Delete. Is there an additinal help sectin?
