GENERAL DESCRIPTION: West Marine CPP! Plus Ablative Antifouling Paint is an antifouling protective coating resistant to algae, barnacles, and other marine fouling. The high loading of cuprous oxide present in the formula enables the paint to perform well, even in the most severe fouling areas. Its controlled erosion characteristics minimize coating buildup and keep underwater surfaces smooth and clean. DIRECTIONS FOR USE PREPARATION OF SURFACE: The surface to be painted should be clean, dry, and free of any contamination or foreign matter. Always prepare the surface to be painted by sanding and solvent cleaning before any paints or primers are applied. When sanding old antifouling paint use a dust mask to prevent the inhalation of sanding dust. Old, soft bottom paints must be completely removed before West Marine CPP! Plus Ablative Antifouling Paint. COVERAGE, APPLICATION AND TEMPERATURE: West Marine CPP! Plus Ablative Antifouling Paint can be applied by brush, roller or spray. All painting should be done between 9:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. in order to avoid the possibility of dew or condensation spoiling the application. The temperature range should be between 10 and 32 C. At least two, and preferably three or four coats should be applied for best performance, particularly in high wear areas such as the waterline. West Marine CPP! Plus Ablative Antifouling Paint will cover approximately 9.8 sq. meters/liter. PREPARATION OF PAINT: West Marine CPP! Plus Ablative Antifouling Paint is heavily loaded with cuprous oxide. As a result of this loading there is a tendency for settling to occur especially if the paint has been on the shelf for several months. It is necessary to thoroughly mix the paint before using. If possible shake the can of paint on a mechanical paint shaker. Before using check the sides and bottom of the can to make sure all the pigment has been mixed in. If mixing is going to be done with a wooden paddle or an electric drill mixer, pour off half of the liquid from the top of the can into another can and then properly mix in any settled pigment; then remix the two parts together thoroughly. THINNING: Use West Marine CPP! Plus Ablative Antifouling Paint Thinner for thinning West Marine CPP! Plus Ablative Antifouling Paint if needed, particularly on warm or breezy days. West Marine CPP! Plus Ablative Antifouling Paint Thinner can also be used to thin West Marine CPP! Plus Ablative Antifouling Paint or spraying and for cleaning equipment. Do not thin West Marine CPP! Plus Ablative Antifouling Paint more than 10% (83 grams/liter) or inadequate paint film thickness will occur and premature erosion of the finish will be likely. DRY TIMES: The minimum recoat time is six hours. The minimum dry time between final coat and launching is 16 hours. Under adverse drying conditions such as those encountered on cool or damp days, extend the dry times by 50% in order to ensure that all the solvent is out of the paint film. There is no maximum time before launching. MAINTENANCE OF ANTIFOULING PAINT: No antifouling paint can be effective under all conditions of exposure. Manmade pollution and natural occurrences can adversely affect antifouling paint performance. Extreme hot and cold water temperatures, silt, dirt, oil, brackish water and even electrolysis can ruin an antifouling paint. Therefore, we strongly suggest that the bottom of the boat be checked regularly to make sure it is clean and that no growth is occurring. Lightly scrub the bottom with a soft brush to remove anything from the antifouling paint surface. Scrubbing is particularity important with boats that are idle for extended periods of time. The self cleaning nature of the coating is most effective when the boat is used periodically.

PAINT SYSTEMS FIBERGLASS: Wash the fiberglass with Pettit 15095 Dewaxer to remove parting agents, grease and dirt. Sand thoroughly with 80 grit sandpaper to a dull, finish. Rewash the sanded surface with 15095 Dewaxer and then apply at least two coats of West Marine CPP! Plus Ablative Antifouling Paint. To skip the tedium of sanding, wash the fiberglass TWICE with 15095 Dewaxer and apply a thin coat of Pettit 6999 Sandless Primer. Let dry to a tack-free condition. After the primer has dried tack-free, apply one coat of West Marine CPP! Plus Ablative Antifouling Paint. Do not let the Sandless Primer dry longer than four hours after it reaches the tack-free state before starting and finishing the application of West Marine CPP! Plus Ablative Antifouling Paint. Apply a second coat of West Marine CPP! Plus Ablative Antifouling Paint following the recommended dry time above. Please note that acetone does not readily clean contaminated surfaces and its use as a cleaner/dewaxer is not recommended. To paint old, hard antifouling paints, sand thoroughly with 80 grit sandpaper before applying West Marine CPP! Plus Ablative Antifouling Paint BLISTERING GELCOAT: Consult Technical Bulletins for detailed instructions before undertaking a blister repair program. WOODEN HULLS: Old, hard antifouling paint should be thoroughly sanded. If priming is necessary on bare wood spots, apply a touch up coat of West Marine CPP! Plus Ablative Antifouling Paint to these areas. Then apply the subsequent coats of West Marine CPP! Plus Ablative Antifouling Paint STEEL HULLS: To remove loose rust and scale from the metal surface, scrape, sandblast, or wire brush. Solvent clean the surface to remove grease and dirt and apply 2-3 coats of Pettit 6980 Rustlok Primer. Follow with West Marine CPP! Plus Ablative Antifouling Paint. Consult the directions for the 6980 Rustlok Primer for detailed application and recoat instructions. UNDERWATER METAL PARTS: Abrade to clean bright metal by scraping, sandblasting, or wire brushing. Solvent clean and apply one thin coat Pettit 6455/044 Metal Primer. Let dry four hours and apply one coat Pettit 6462 Q.D. Zinc Chromate Primer. Let dry fours and apply West Marine CPP! Plus Ablative Antifouling Paint or let dry overnight, sand lightly, and apply West Marine CPP! Plus Ablative Antifouling Paint. Consult individual product labels for complete, detailed instructions.
