This is exactly what the ew if PUBLIC VALUE STUDENT AWARD is about: cocepts ad product ideas that cotribute to fidig solutios to the most pressig questios of our time, thus movig our societies forward. Therefore, projects worth a award are those that actively aim to ehace livig coditios, that promote peaceful coexistece or that focus o preservig our eviromet. It s all about values - about social values ad, hece, about public values. Ofte, it s youg people who vigorously questio existig coditios ad who, with a great deal of imagiatio, push towards ew solutios. This award will recogize studet projects focusig o the developmet of creative cocepts to tackle the big issues of our time. I this cotext, persoal motivatio ad the reasos why oe wats to chage the world are ot as importat as the social effect aimed at with the project: Does the project solve a importat social problem? Does it thus create a dimesio of use that also cosiders ethical questios, that has outstadig aesthetic qualities ad that might eve lead to ew political cosequeces? If all these aspects come together, a project is mature eough for a award. These aspects precisely embody the philosophy behid the if PUBLIC VALUE STUDENT AWARD. The distictive feature of the if PUBLIC VALUE STUDENT AWARD is its focus o a cocept s qualitative stregth, o the bold idea behid the cocept. The if PUBLIC VALUE STUDENT AWARD is about ideas, ot about successful implemetatio. Naturally, etries must be preseted i such a way that the jury will be able to idetify a cocept s desired effects. It is also beeficial if first steps towards implemetatio have already bee put ito practice. However, participats do ot eed to show evidece of effectiveess: The if PUBLIC VALUE STUDENT AWARD is about cocepts (projects ad services) as well as for product ideas. Who ca ad should participate? Which projects ca deliver productive cotributios to accompay this chage? Usig Resources Smartly Natural resources are scarce but there is o ulimited availability of kowledge ad capital either. Rapid growth i both the world s populatio ad i global productio have elevated the issue of resource use to become a cetral questio of our time. How ca we best avoid the threats posed by scarcity of resources? Which are the most promisig optios? Better Life i Cities Livig together i cities, especially i megacities, opes up may ew opportuities, but also creates ew challeges: How ca we pla, cotrol ad develop such a social orgaism? Where are the clever aswers? Livig together i the 21st Cetury Chagig values, techological progress, ad globalizatio are processes that deeply affect both family life ad the etwork of social relatioships. Which projects support ew ad sustaiable models of everyday commual life? Iteret, Media ad Data The ew media have chaged our everyday life to a degree that was impossible to imagie oly 10 years ago. Today, we use smartphoes to access almost humaity s etire kowledge from early aywhere the world. Simultaeously, however, we suffer from techology-iduced stress ad worry about the safety of our persoal data. Further fudametal chages are likely to happe. Which projects have the highest public value i this cotext? Climate Chage Everywhere i the world, we ca observe a heighteed awareess cocerig the protectio of atural resources. Our idea of mobility, of regioal ad log haul trasport, as well as of private ad public trasport is chagig. Who has the best ideas? Ageig Society Life expectacy has rise dramatically i may parts of the world. If this is combied with decliig birth rates, the questio arises as to how social life must chage to accommodate ew eeds ad to eable both youg ad old people to live a digified life i harmoious coexistece. As it has always bee the case i huma history ew solutios are beig developed. But where are these solutios?

Categories Labor Relatios Chagig Job markets are chagig dramatically ad so do educatioal ad professioal biographies. There are those who work sigificatly more ad loger hours, ad there are those who have a hard time fidig a job i the first place. Ad there are also those who frequetly chage careers. This ew diversity ad icreasig demad for flexibility require adjustmet processes ad ask for social iovatio. Which projects ca advace our societies? Uleashed Bioegieerig I the 21st cetury, health ad wellbeig play a importat role i may societies. Rapid scietific progress eables us to solve humaity s most urget problems. However, while the possibility to use itervetioal processes to directly affect life systems creates ew perspectives for society it also presets us with ew ad very fudametal questios related to what it meas to be huma. Who develops ot oly techically feasible but also socially meaigful solutios? Empowerig the Idividual Values related to the role of the idividual i society are ot the same i all parts of the world. What some see as excessive idividualism is a hard-wo fudametal right for others. Which projects cotribute to stregtheig the self-developmet of the idividual ad support huma self-realizatio?

Evaluatio Process Studets ad youg graduates are allowed to submit either cocepts or product ideas to the theme public value. For both types of submissio differet evaluatio criteria will be used. Public Value Scorecard A specially developed methodology allows comparig the greatest variety of cocepts ad product ideas across the differet categories. Each etry will be evaluated o the basis of five criteria, which are combied i a Public Value scorecard. 1. Does it solve a relevat problem? 5. Does it balace effort ad use value? 2. Does it reflect or promote high moral-ethical stadards? 4. Does it create a positive experiece? 3. Does it stregthe group relatios? Evaluatio Process for Cocepts Cocepts mea to preset ideas, approaches ad possible solutios which belog to the theme public value ad refer to the topic project ad services. Spatial Cocept ad Ambiece Usability + Ergoomics Brad Fit Aesthetics 5. Does it balace effort ad use value? Efficiecy i Productio ad Logistics Practicability Executio

The five evaluatio criteria are applied to each cocept or product idea i the same way. This allows both systematic compariso ad fair evaluatio of a projects public value. It is totally clear that a cocept s or product public value is closely liked to the eviromet i which the cocept / product will ufold its effectiveess. The sesitivity ad experiece ecessary to evaluate this cotextual iterdepedecy will be guarateed through the selectio of qualified jurors. As part of a two-step process, the jury will first assess all etries olie, usig the above-described methodology. Each participat will receive feedback i the form of a short public value profile, regardless of whether a etry will be selected for a award i the secod step. The Jury iteratioal, ope-mided ad discerig The opeess of the if PUBLIC VALUE STUDENT AWARD requires that jury members use a particularly sesitive ad resposible approach i their decisio-makig, as is also the case i all other awards. Recogizig ad evaluatig is the task of the jury.
