The Pillar 1 and its Topics Driving innovative maritime and marine growth in the Region by promoting sustainable economic growth, jobs and business opportunities in the blue economy Blue technologies To promote research, innovation and business opportunities in blue economy sectors, by facilitating the brain circulation between research and business communities and increasing their networking and clustering capacity. Fisheries and aquaculture To adapt to sustainable seafood production and consumption, by developing common standards and approaches for strengthening these two sectors and providing a level playing field in the macro-region. Maritime and marine governance and services To improve sea basin governance, by enhancing administrative and institutional capacities in the area of maritime governance and services.

Pillar 1 topics To promote research, innovation and business opportunities in blue economy sectors, by facilitating the brain circulation betweenresearch and business communitiesand increasing their networking and clustering capacity. Italian regional priorities Italian Regional Priorities coherent with MIPAAF's proposal updated to the meeting in Venice, September 28th 2015 Connections between academic and production sectors Example. Research of new fuels (green energies, alternative energies) for the fishing fleet and for other maritime activities; Main correspondances with the following Indicative Actions of the Action Plan: 1a) Macro-regional cluster development; 1b) Improving access to finance and promoting start-ups. Actions for environmental sustainability of fisheries and aquaculture Example. Continuation and systematization of the stock assessment pilot activities implemented through ECOSEA project aimed at subsequently defining shared models of management of the fishing activities in the AI region; To adapt to sustainable seafood production and consumption, by developing common standards and approaches for strengthening these two sectors and providing a level playing field in the macro-region. Instruments for sustainability, for economic growth and for job creation in the sectors of fisheries and aquaculture Example. Improving the services offered: realization of multi-functional areas/service desk for treatment, storage, distribution and commercialization of the catch. Example. Training human capital / new professional skills Main correspondances with the following Indicative Actions of the Action Plan: 2a) Diversification and profitability of fisheries and aquaculture; 2b) Sustainable management of fisheries: Multiannual fishery management; 2c) Marketing os seafood products; 2d) Scientific cooperation on fisheries and fish stocks; 2e) EU compliance and common standards and practices; 2f) Developing skills. To improve sea basin governance, by enhancing administrative and institutional capacities in the area of maritime governance and services. Governance and institutional/administrative capacity building Example. Standardization of: controls on the water quality; fishing rules; security of maritime transports; Main correspondances with the following Indicative Actions of the Action Plan: 3a) Institutional capacity to harmonise standards and regulations; 3b) Governance of maritime space; 3c) Maritime skills.
