Flower Blocks Notes: Use a ¼" seam allowance for all stitching. There are 8 different print fabrics used to make the 4. Sew each center segment between 2 same-print x 5" rectangles to make (5) 5" x 5" flower centers of each flower print (40 flower centers total). Press seams toward the center segments. 1. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of (320) cream squares. 2. Place a marked square right sides together on 1 end of a x 3½" print rectangle. Sew on the line. Trim seam ¼" out from the stitched line. Press the cream triangle open. Repeat on the remaining end of the rectangle to make a x 3½" triangle unit. Repeat with all x 3½" print rectangles to make 20 triangle units of each print (160 triangle units total). Flower Center Make 5 of each print (40 total) 5. Select 4 same-print triangle units and 1 matching flower center. 6. Stitch an unmarked cream square to 1 end of 2 triangle units to make (2) x 5" side rows. Press seams toward the squares. Sew the rows to opposite sides of the flower center to complete the 5" x 8" center row. Press seams toward the flower center. Triangle Unit Make 20 of each print (160 total) 3. Sew a x 21" gold strip lengthwise between (2) x 21" same-print strips to make a strip set. Press seams away from the gold strip. Crosscut the strip set into (5) center segments. Repeat to make 1 strip set and cut 5 center segments of each print (40 center segments total). Cut 5 of each print (40 total) Flower Block Make 5 of each print (40 total) 7. Sew an unmarked cream square to 1 end and a x 3½" cream rectangle to the opposite end of the 2 remaining triangle units to make x 8" top/bottom rows. Press seams away from the triangle units. Stitch the rows to the top and bottom of the center row to complete (1) 8" x 8" Flower block. Press seams toward the center row. 8. Vine Blocks 1. Sew a x WOF green strip lengthwise between (2) 3½" x WOF cream strips to make a strip set. Press seams toward the green strip. Repeat to make 3 strip sets. Crosscut the strip sets into (50) A segments. 3. Sew a 5" x WOF cream strip lengthwise between (2) x WOF green strips to make a strip set. Press seams toward the green strips. Repeat to make 3 strip sets. Crosscut the strip sets into (50) segments. C Segments Cut 50 A Segments Cut 50 2. Stitch a x WOF cream strip lengthwise between (2) x WOF green strips. Add a x WOF cream strip to each long edge to make a strip set. Press all seams toward the green strips. Repeat to make 3 strip sets. Crosscut the strip sets into (50) B segments. 4. Stitch a B segment between an A segment and a C segment to make a 5" x 8" Vine block. Press seams toward the B segment. Repeat to make 50 Vine blocks. Quilt Assembly Refer to the exploded quilt diagram as needed throughout the following steps. 1. Sew (5) 5" cream squares alternately together with 5 Vine blocks to make the 5" x 60½" top vine row. Press seams toward the squares. Repeat to make the bottom vine row. 2. Stitch 5 Vine blocks alternately together with 5 Flower blocks to make an 8" x 60½ flower row. Press seams toward the Vine blocks. Repeat to make 8 flower rows. 3. Join the flower rows, turning every other row end to end. Add the top and bottom vine rows to complete the 60½" x 69½" quilt center, turning the bottom vine row end to end. Press seams to 1 side. 4. Sew the x WOF cream strips short ends together to make a long strip. Press seams to 1 side. Cut into (2) 69½" strips and (2) 63½" strips. Stitch the longer strips to the long sides of the quilt center and the shorter strips to the top and bottom. Press seams toward the strips. 5. Repeat step 4 with the 3½" x WOF multi-print strips to complete the top, cutting (2) 72½" strips and (2) 69½" strips. 6. Remove the selvage edges from the backing pieces. Join the pieces on the long edges with a ½" seam allowance. Press seam open. Trim the edges to make a 77" x 86" backing piece. 7. Layer the top with the backing and a 77" x 86" batting piece. Quilt as desired. Trim edges even with the top. 8. Prepare black/red spots binding and bind edges using your favorite method to complete the quilt.
