March/April 2017 Newsletter: midalcorvette.com

David Overton 2017 has started out as a fun and busy year. Thanks to Joe and Peg Planson for hosting another great Super Bowl Party. It was enjoyed by all even if the finally score disappointed some of us! We had a total of eight Corvettes in the World of Wheels, all of which won trophies. Congratulations to all. MACC won a plaque and $300 cash prize for best club display. Thank you to everyone who helped with the World of Wheels. Our Corvette Cruisers bowling league is bowling again at Vestavia Bowl every Monday night. Please come out and cheer for your favorite team. The MACC Valentines Day Dinner at The Club, hosted by our hard-working social committee, was a great success. If you missed these club events, there are many more being planned for throughout the year. David Overton 205-337-1431

Charlie Rauucio Message from the Vice President: MACC members have, once again, been very busy! We have attended parties, gone on tours of a cookie factory and a brewery, and learned about aviation history at the museum of flight. We won trophies at the World of Wheels, and some of us are even going to learn more about gun safety soon. Our big focus now is on our Vette Spectacular. I want to recognize some people who have gone an extra mile to help with this great event. Not only did Jerry & Lisa Holcombe provide us with a moving truck to get in and out of the World of Wheels, but they also donated $500.00 towards making the Vette Spectacular a success. Jerry & Lisa own Reliable/ Bekins moving company. If in the future you have a need for a moving company take care of them, as they have taken care of us. Billy Ray Smith has donated a new Del-Tron AR 15 rifle. We have already collected close to $700.00 in raffle ticket sales for the rifle. Billy Ray owns Alabama Tactical Firearms, Inc. Also, a big thank you to all who have sponsored trophies, volunteered to be a judge, offered to work at the event, given money for the money tree, and donated auction items or door prizes. We always need more help to put on this show. It's not too late to volunteer! This is MACC's biggest fund raiser for Magic Moments, so please lend a hand. We still need more door prizes, things to auction off, small cash donations for the money tree and help working the event. Half of my term as V P of the club has passed, and the experience has been one I will not forget. I really appreciate all of the times members have thanked me for the things David and I are doing for the club. There have also been times where people won t talk to me for weeks. The saying is true; you can t please all the people all of the time. My goal is to make the second half of my term better than the first. Help me to help you. Let me know some of the changes you would like to see. If there have been things we ve already done that you especially enjoyed, let me know. It may be something we make into a yearly event. Thank you for your understanding and support. Let s have a great summer Thanks, V P Charlie 205-365-6830

This donation will go a long way in help Magic Moments of Alabama. MACC would like to thank Billy Ray Smith and Alabama Tactical Firearms for their generous donation of an AR-15 rifle. To be raffled off at our Vette Spectacular on May 13, 2016 at Zamora Temple.

Two New Corvettes As many of you are aware 14 MACC members visited Bud s Best Cookies on Monday, February 5 and all seemed to have a great time on the tour, thank you for your participation. On our drive home, Cheryl and I recalled a conversation we both had with Albert the Tram Engineer and Aubry our Tour Guide. In that conversation a question was addressed to Cheryl and me what kind of Corvette do we drive, and we explained what we had and how much we enjoyed the car and our membership within the Mid Alabama Corvette Club. Aubry mentioned that he had always had a desire to own America s Sports Car but just never had made an effort to do so. I asked him if you bought a Corvette what color would you buy? His reply was quick, as if he had already given it some thought; BLACK, he answered. So then the same question was directed to Albert, he said without any hesitation, the color didn t matter as long as it was a Corvette. Cheryl and decided that we would buy them both a new Corvette and we did. I ordered a BLACK coupe for Aubry and a SILVER coupe for Albert. Of course we had to wait sometime for the cars to get into town. We both were so excited when they arrived and we couldn t wait to drive them down to Bud s Cookies for presentation. Following the purchase of the two Corvettes Cheryl and I scheduled to meet with them and make a formal presentation to Albert, Autry and Sharon who worked with us on scheduling the tour. Sharon would be presented with jewelry from Cheryl s personal business. Upon arrival, Cheryl and I had a wonderful greeting from the three. Neither of the three had any idea as to what we were about to present to each of them. The entire front office staff was just as excited to watch the presentation to the very deserving of the three of Bud s Best.. Cheryl placed the necklace onto Sharon and a hug. I handed both Albert and Aubry a box, and as they were opening their boxes we explained to each, their wish for a new Corvette had finally come true. Aubry s comment was no one had ever in his 21 years at Bud s who had toured had ever returned and presented them with a gift of appreciation. We presented these Two New Corvettes on behalf of Mid Alabama Corvette Club and our appreciation of their hospitality and were so very proud to do so.

Between 25 to 30 MACC members attended a very informative Alabama Aviation history lesson today at the Southern Museum of Flight. Mr. Charles Phillips our most informative Guide, who not only was an Air Force pilot veteran but an Aviation History Instructor with the Air Force. His knowledge of each aircraft within the museum was informative and factual. Taking the time to expand on information pertaining to and relating to that aircraft or aviation persona connection to Alabama. Making it well known to all that Alabama has an immense aviation history from the Wright Brothers, to Vietnam. Following the museum tour, Mr. Phillips made arrangements for the 16 Corvettes to park close to the outer aircraft for a photo session. As the photo session began, a lady walked up who apparently was a professional photographer began taking pictures for our group. She also walked about the individual Corvettes and took a variety of photos of the cars at different angles. ~Larry Linley

MACC: After being on display at the National Corvette Museum sinkhole exhibit following 2014 sinkhole disaster, the Black 1962 Convertible is finally getting ready for its restoration. GM has donated $25.000 to help with the restoration of this car, whose estimate calls for $15.000 in parts alone. The entire front clip of the car will be replaced during the process, including the windshield, and work is estimated to take roughly 12 months to complete. To commemorate that 3rd anniversary the NCM will begin restoration of the Tuxedo Black 1962 Corvette. The Corvette was donated to the Museum in 2011 by David Donoho, who owned the Corvette for over 50 years

Hi MACC: Grille 29 will host MACC'S Social night SOON. The next date is pending.
