projects SUMMER MINI ALBUM Erin Bassett Create a beautiful album to keep your summer memories! MATERIALS: 6" x 6" Maya Road chipboard album, patterned papers (by: Crate Paper, Webster s Pages, American Crafts, October Afternoon, Basic Grey, Fancy Pants), paint by DecoArt, pens (Faber Castell, Signo), brads, ribbons, washi tape, adhesive, Brother ScanNCut machine step 1. Paint the inside and outside cover of the chipboard album with pink craft paint. Also paint inside pages with either yellow or pink craft paint. Allow all paint to dry before adhering pieces onto the album and paper. step 2. Creating the cover. Attach floral paper to the front cover. Using the ScanNCut machine, cut out a 6" bracket. Apply paper to mat and insert it into the machine. Press Patterns, then the Flower/Gift icon, followed by the Bracket/Frame icon. Then, select pattern AR-K016. Adjust the width to 6" and the height to 5 3/4." Press OK twice. Then, in this order, press Set, OK, Cut and Start.

step 3. Next, create the pink bracket shape and add faux stitches to the border with a pen. Do not delete the first bracket that you have already cut out. Choose the arrow to go back a step and then resize the bracket to be about 5" square. Next, press Add and Patterns and then select Fonts. Choose the font you want to use and then type out the word summer and adjust the size to 3/4" high. Press Set. Select summer and move it onto the bracket shape where you want it to be cut. Note: If you want to merge these shapes and text so that they can be saved, follow these steps: Press the "Mat" icon that has the shapes on it, then press the icon that has the three squares lined up on it. Select all the shapes, press OK, and then press the Merge icon. Press OK twice. You can now choose Save and then save it either to the machine or to a memory stick. step 4. Cut out the word FUN and add faux stitches to it with a pen as well. Apply paper to mat and insert it into the machine. Press Patterns, and then the Fonts icon. Choose the font you want to use and type in FUN. Adjust the size to about 1/2" tall and then hit Set, and OK, followed by Cut and Start. step 5. Next, cut out and assemble flowers (and make extra ones to use inside the book, too). Cut out various sizes and shapes of flowers using different patterned papers. To do this, apply paper to mat and select Patterns. Choose the Apple/Gift icon, followed by the Nature icon ( Plant/Flower ). Find the design you want to use and click on it. Adjust the size and press OK. If your flower has different parts to it, you now need to select the part you want to cut first (e.g., part A ). Press OK. You can then change the number that you want the machine to cut (e.g., 5 ) and then select Set. Next, press Add and select the next part of flower to cut (e.g., part B ) and go through the same steps as you did with Flower: part A. Repeat this for the other flower parts. When you have finished adding flowers to the mat, press Cut and then Start to cut them out. Repeat this step using different flower shapes and papers.

step 6. Once all of your flower pieces are cut out, you can play around with stacking them up. After layering the flowers exactly as you want them arranged, insert a brad through the flower centers so that they stay together. Add a ribbon all around the cover, leaving enough ends to be able to tie it into a bow. step 7. First page. Cover with patterned paper, and add journaling card, photo, and washi tape. Cut out two circles of patterned paper (1" and 3/4"), layer them and add them to the upper right corner of the journaling card. step 8. Second and third pages. Cut and apply a 2" tall strip of paper across both pages. Cut out the ordered pieces and apply them to the top and bottom of the strip. (Steps: Apply paper to mat and insert it into the machine. Press Patterns and then the Borders icon. Select the border you want to use, adjust the size, and (in this order) press: Set, OK, Cut and Start. Repeat these steps for the other border piece.) Create the ampersand ( & ) tag, apply word stickers to it (along with some ribbon), and then adhere it to the page. (Steps for creating the tag: apply paper to the mat and insert it into the machine. Press Patterns, then the Flower/Gift icon, followed by the Bracket/Frame icon, and then select the tag you want to use. Adjust the size, press OK twice, and then rotate it so that it is in a horizontal position, and press Set. Next, press Add and Patterns and then select Fonts. Choose the font you want to use, type the & symbol and then adjust the size to fit onto your tag. Press Set. Select & and move it onto the tag shape where you want it to be cut.

step 8. (cont d.) Note: If you want to merge these shapes and text so that they can be saved, follow these steps: Press the Mat icon that has the shapes on it, then press the icon that has the three squares lined up on it. Select all the shapes, press OK, and then press the Merge icon. Press OK twice. You can now choose Save and then save it either to the machine or to a memory stick. Next, write the word adventure onto a white piece of cardstock, have the ScanNCut Direct Cut it out and then adhere it to the page. (Steps: Apply it to the mat and insert it into the machine. Press the Scan button, followed by the Direct Cut button, and then Start. When the scanning is finished, push OK. Next, push the Margin button, and then increase the margin to.04" or to whatever size you d like it to be. Then press OK two times, followed by Cut and then Start. step 9. Fourth page. On a yellow painted background, adhere a doily, a tag (cut it out as described before), a flower (one of the extras you made when doing the cover), and a photo to the page. step 10. Fifth page. Stick the patterned paper to page add photos, a tag, and flowers.

step 11. Sixth page. On a pink painted page, arrange photos and a border strip of paper from the patterned papers. Cut out a scalloped circle and a heart shape. (Steps: Apply paper to mat and insert it into the machine. Press Patterns, and then the Shapes icon. Find the shape you want and select it. Adjust the size, and (in this order) press: Set, OK, Cut and Start. Repeat these steps for the shapes you choose for other patterned papers and the Direct Cut words: fun, fun, and apply them to the page. Add stickers.) step 12. Seventh page. Apply patterned paper to page. Cut out a large bracket (about 3 3/4" wide [see prior directions on how to cut out shapes]) on white paper, and a smaller bracket (about 3 1/2" wide) on patterned paper, along with some circles (1 1/2," 3/4," and 1/2"). Adhere to page, along with a photo and stickers. Doodle on page as desired.

step 13. Eighth page. Cut out a large bracket shape (about 5 1/2" wide), a scalloped circle (about 1 3/4" wide), a heart shape (about 1" x 1 1/2"), a handwritten/ direct cut love, and adhere these to the yellow painted page, along with a photo. step 14. Ninth page. Apply patterned paper to this page. Add a partial doily, photos, and a circle shape (1").

step 15. Tenth page. On a yellow painted page, apply a 1 1/2" strip of floral patterned paper to the right hand side of the page. Cut out border (see prior directions) and adhere these to the left side of the strip. Cut out the tag with the word memories (see prior directions for the ampersand [ & ] tag). Place the patterned paper piece to the backside of tag before adhering it to the page. Cut out circles (1" and 3/4"), layer them and attach them to the page. Add ribbon to tag.
