Halloween Tombstone Pattern An eerie Halloween decoration fit for any Halloween party or just as a decoration. There is a sweet little ghostie is peeking over the spider and web covered Tombstone. And it just wouldn t be Halloween without a grinning Jack-olantern. Standing four inches wide and six and a half inches tall, that makes it the perfect Halloween accessory for your home or office. Yarn over and pull through 2 loops. Half Double Crochet (hdc) = Yarn over hook and insert hook into stitch, yarn over hook and pull through. (3 loops on hook) Yarn over and pull through all 3 loops. Single Crochet 2 together (sc2tog) = Insert hook in stitch, yarn over hook and pull through and insert hook in next st, yarn over and pull through (3 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through all 3 loops. (Decrease 1 stitch) Half Double Crochet 2 together (hdc2tog) = Yarn over hook and insert hook into stitch, yarn over hook and pull through and insert hook in next st, yarn over and pull through. (4 loops on hook) Yarn over and pull through all 4 loops. (Decrease 1 stitch) Magic Circle (MC) or Adjustable Ring = Wrap yarn around 3 fingers making a loop with the loose end under the working yarn, with hook reach under the loose yarn (above where the yarns cross) and pull the working yarn through and chain 1 stitch (1 loop on hook). Working around the yarn held by the chain stitch, single crochet the number of stitches called for in the pattern. For an MC of 6, you would crochet 6 single crochet stitches around the starting loop. Then pull the loose end of the yarn tight and you have made your Magic Circle. NOTES Do not join rounds unless otherwise indicated. Use a yarn marker or contrasting yarn to mark rows. Stuff firmly as each piece will soften when handled. Keep crochet stitches close together so the stuffing will not show. The number in brackets (#) at the end of the row is the number of stitches you should have in that row. PATTERN DIRECTIONS

Assembling the Tombstone: Using the fastening off tail, sew the side to the Base, all the way around the edge, making sure to make the corners very square. Then, using the fastening off tail, sew the side to the Top, on three sides on the edge. Leave one side open for stuffing. Stuff the Base lightly with fiberfill and sew the open end closed and weave in ends. Using the one of the Tombstone pieces, trace the outline on the Plastic canvas. Cut the Plastic canvas smaller than the tombstone piece as it needs to fit inside later. Trim any sharp pieces from the plastic canvas; we don t want it to catch when we try to insert it. Using the fastening off tail, sew the two tombstone pieces together on the sides and over the top, leaving the bottom open for inserting the plastic canvas. Insert the Plastic canvas, through the bottom of the tombstone. Line up the Tombstone with the back of the Base and stitch it in place all the way around. With the CB yarn, stitch the letters R I P on the front of the tombstone.

Halloween Tombstone Page 5 of 6 IMPORTANT NOTE: Make sure the safety eyes are in and the safety backs are secured before you stuff and sew the head closed. Keep the placement of the eyes to the middle of the head, as you will need space to embroider the mouth in place later. To sew hole closed in the head, weave the tail through the stitches around the hole and pull to close the hole. Then sew across the closed spot to keep it closed. Now, you are ready to attach the head to the body of the Ghostie. Using the tail on the head, sew the head to the shoulders of the Ghostie body. Make sure that you center the head on the shoulders. With 2 strands of black embroidery floss, stitch an eyebrow over each eye. Then, with CD yarn or a scrap of red yarn, embroider an oval for the mouth of the Ghostie. PUMPKIN (Make 3) (Using 3.5mm hook) 1. In CF, MC of 6 or (Ch 2 and in second ch from hook, 6 sc in st) (6) 2. 2 sc in each st. (12) 3. *1 sc in st, 2 sc in st* repeat from * to * around. (18) 4-8. *1 hdc in 2 st, 1 sc in st* repeat from * to * around. (18) 9. *Hdc2tog, 1 sc in st * repeat from * to * around (12) and fasten off with long tail for sewing pieces together. STEM (Using 3.5mm hook) 1. In CG, Ch 4 and fasten off with long tail for sewing pieces together. Assembling the Pumpkin: Stuff the Pumpkin firmly with fiberfill. Using the fastening off tail, sew the top of the Pumpkin close by weaving the tail through the stitches around the top of the pumpkin hole and pulling it closed. Over sew the top to keep the top of the pumpkin closed. With an extra piece of CF yarn, Sew down the sc stitches from the top to the bottom of the pumpkin, pulling gently to create the pumpkin bumps, repeat around six times. For the stem, fold the chain in half and secure by stitching through the first chain. Sew to the top of each pumpkin. With the CB yarn, stitch the eyes, nose and mouth on the pumpkin to make it a jack-olantern.

Halloween Tombstone Page 6 of 6 SPIDER (Using 2.0mm hook) 1. In CE, Ch 6 and join to first ch (to make a loop) and fasten off. Assembling the Spider: Using the fastening off tails, tie a knot. With extra piece of CE yarn, sew across the spider body to make eight legs. ASSEMBLING With the tail from the arms on the Ghostie, stitch them to the tombstone, so that it is hugging the tombstone. You can put it straight on the top or tilted to one side. Tilt the Tombstone on the Base to the side slightly to give it an eerie effect. Decorate the Tombstone with the store bought spider web, use a light touch as you don t need much to make it look like real spider s webbing. Then using the fastening off tail, attach the spider to the side of the Tombstone or where ever you would like it. Place the Jack-o-lantern on the base of the Tombstone, and stitch it in place with some extra CF yarn. Now you are ready to display your Halloween Tombstone.
