Organization & Mission The purpose of the Efficient Windows Collaborative (EWC) is to provide unbiased information, outreach, education and research to the general public on the energy efficiency, technical considerations, and human considerations that influence window and façade design, selection and use. The EWC, now a 501(c)3 organization, is part of a greater group of organizations, educational institutions and government agencies that are working to promote energy efficiency in residential and commercial fenestration products. 2
Board of Directors: Startup Through 2015 Kerry Haglund, LEED AP BD + C Kerry has a Bachelor and Master of Architecture from the University of Minnesota. She is currently the acting Executive Director of the Efficient Windows Collaborative as well as a consultant. Her work focuses on windows and glazings research, decision-making tool development, and information dissemination. She spent 15 years at the Center for Sustainable Building Research at the University of Minnesota where her work as a Senior Research Fellow included working with the Department of Energy, the window and glazing industry, and other organizations in research and development and market transformation programs. Kerry spent 6 years on the Board of Directors for the National Fenestration Rating Council NFRC and remains an active participant of NFRC as well as other industry associations. John Carmody, College of Design, University of Minnesota John Carmody is a Senior Fellow in the College of Design and a Fellow at the Institute on the Environment at the University of Minnesota. In 1997 he founded the Center for Sustainable Building Research where he was Director through 2013. He holds a Bachelors and Masters degree in Architecture from the University of Minnesota. He has worked in building-related research for 35 years and is the author of several books on building design and construction. These include Window Systems for High Performance Buildings with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and Residential Windows: A Guide to New Technologies and Energy Performance. John was one of the leaders of a team that developed the B3 Sustainable Building Guidelines and the SB2030 program designed to transform Minnesota buildings to net zero energy and carbon by the year 2030. John was a co-leader of the DOE-sponsored Northern STAR Building America team at the University. 3
Board of Directors: Startup Through 2015 Valerie Green Valerie Green is a Business Relationship Consultant, working with organizations to develop strategies and implement business process and IT solutions. Valerie worked for 22 years at Andersen Corporation in their IT department. Her primary focus was on quoting and ordering tools as well as developing IT strategy and solutions with the sales, marketing, finance and logistics functions. Jim Larsen, Director, Technology Marketing, Cardinal Glass Industries Jim is a mechanical engineer with 30+ years of experience in the research and development of glass products for windows. Jim s principle job responsibility is supporting the recognition of efficient windows through building energy codes. He also provides product support through website development, product brochures, customer training, and building energy research. Jim has been involved with the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) since its inception, has chaired many of the technical committees and has been elected to the NFRC board or directors numerous times. Jim has also been a board member of the Energy and Environmental Building Association (EEBA) and the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (MEEA). He has been a member of the state energy code committees in Florida and Minnesota, and has testified on behalf of efficient windows for numerous state and national code activities. Jim currently sits on the ASHRAE 90.2 committee for residential building energy performance. He is a frequent presenter at energy efficiency conferences such as EEBA, Affordable Comfort, BETEC, DOE Envelope Conference, etc., and is a recognized AIA education provider. 4
Board of Directors: Startup Through 2015 Kate Offringa, President, Tallwood Strategies Kate Offringa is a Certified Association Executive, with 20 years experience in Washington. She currently serves as the first Executive Director of the Vinyl Building Council, the vinyl industry s collective voice in advocating for vinyl product solutions in building and construction projects. Previously, Kate was President and CEO of the North American Insulation Manufacturers Association. Prior to joining the insulation industry, she served as Director of Market Transformation for The Alliance to Save Energy. She has particular expertise in energy efficiency in the buildings sector. Kate earned her M.A. degree in energy policy and economics from The Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies. She received her B.A. degree Magna Cum Laude from the University of New Hampshire in political science and international affairs. 5
Board of Directors: Startup Through 2015 Alecia Ward, Program Development Office Leader, EETD, LBNL An expert on energy efficiency, sustainability and climate, Alecia adds valuable insight into the process of designing, deploying, managing, and evaluating energy efficiency, demand-side management, demand response, and renewable energy programs. Working collaboratively, as a consultant and as a stakeholder advocate, Alecia has advised investor-owned utilities, rural electric cooperatives, and municipal utilities and their associations for more than 10 years. Alecia has tracked energy and climate policy at an international, national, regional and local level for more than 15 years. She has served at the pleasure of two members of Congress and one President. Coordinating with federal agencies and maintaining active relationships with more than 40 state agencies, departments, bureaus, boards and commissions, Alecia creates successful partnerships for clients. She has served at the pleasure of two members of Congress and one President and has coordinated extensively with federal agencies and state and local governments. Before joining LBNL, Alecia served as the Director of Government Relations and Business Development for The Weidt Group, the President and CEO of the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (MEEA), and was the founding Program Manager of the Efficient Windows Collaborative at the Alliance to Save Energy. 6
