WORKSHOP# 3 DRAW WITH INKSCAPE Preparing the page 1. Enter Inkscape and from the File menu, go to Document Properties. 2. Prepare a page with the following characteristics: a) Format A4 (millimeters as the unit of measure) b) Color background white-vertical position c) Save the document as taller3p1_tunombre OBJETS DEGRADED- PRACTICE 1 1. Draw a blue square of 50 mm without a border. 2. Draw four circles 10, 20, 30 and 40 mm. of diameter respectively. Color them as in the Figure (approximately). 1
3. Draw a 6-pointed star and a long black line 2 mm thick and 200 mm long (to make it perfectly horizontal use the Ctrl key) 4. Move, rotate, position and align elements so that you have them as in the figure below 2
5. Now let's apply gradients (degradados) to the objects. You must do one at a time. 6. Choose one of them, and with the create and edit gradients tool selected, draw a vertical gradient on the desired object. Example: Select Edit gradient stops at the top on the menu The following table shows: Shows the drop Choose the second stop Now move all values to 255 for which the gradient goes from some color to white but completely opaque. 3
7. Do the same with other objects until you get a figure like this.: 8. Group the figure, duplicate and reduce it to 50% (Object/Transform - Scale) 4
9. Center the two figures in the middle of the page. 5
DESING A STAMP-PRACTICE 2 Prepare the page 1. Enter Inkscape and from the File menu, go to Document Properties. 2. Prepare a page with the following characteristics: a) Format A4 (millimeters as the unit of measure). b) Background-white vertical position. c) Save the document as taller3p2_tunombre Design - Trace with Inkscape as shown in the Figure. - The bear's body is made with the Bezier tool, others are geometric figures such as circles, ellipses, squares and triangles. - At the end of the practice you can see how the drawing should be, then you should change line thickness. - Also change the level of each object (using up or down a level). 6
- Finally to color as in the figure, open the file "colores_oso.svg". Copy and paste it next to your drawing. - Use the "Select color image" tool to copy the same tones. First, select the object you want to color and then click on the desired color you want to copy. Automatically the color changes. Make the next practice on the same document. DESIGN AN ANIMAL CARTOON-PRACTICE 3 Let's draw a frog using Bezier curves and circles. 1. Open a new file in Inkscape. 2. In the tool control bar (left) select Create circles, ellipses and arcs. Draw an ellipse as in the figure and color it with a dark purple tone from the color palette. Color the edge of the ellipse (line) black and establish a line width of 2 pixels in the Fill and Stroke menu Object tool. 3. In the control tool bar, select Draw Bezier curves and straight lines to draw the legs of the frog. Draw a line similar to that we offer. To do this, click on each change of direction that has a curve. Each click generates a 7
point on the line; if before releasing the left button (each click) you move the mouse, the line will curve; this allows you to create the curved line. To close the path, click on the first point. 4. To refine and soften the line, edit the points of the line. Double click on the picture to display the points and click on them to drag. To bend the line, click on points with the Shift key. Fill the line with purple when finished. 5. Repeat to draw the other leg. 6. To make the eyes, draw a large white circle with a small black circle inside. Copy it to draw the second. Add two curves as eyebrows. 7. Now join the drawings to shape the frog. If any part is too big or too small, scale the size of the frog to to keep it proportionate. To place objects on top of each other, select them in the Object menu, choose Raise or Lower as interest. 8. Now, draw the mouth with a curved line inside the ellipse and, finally, create a small purple ellipse, copy, and then paste it several times. Change the size and distribute the ellipses throughout the body of the frog. 9. Save it as workshop3p3_tunombre 8
