Iron Workers Union, AFL-CIO & General President Eric Dean Eric Dean was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He is a graduate of the Harvard Labor Trade Program. In 2005 he became President of the Chicago and Vicinity District Council of Iron Workers and was appointed 9th General Vice President in 2008. In 2011 he was appointed General Secretary of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers and was elected by the Delegates to the 42nd International Convention as General Secretary for a five-year term. On April 22, 2015 Eric Dean was unanimously elected General President by the General Executive Council of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers. That same year (May 29, 2015), Eric was elected Secretary of the National Coordinating Committee for Multiemployer Plans (NCCMP). As General President, he is a member of the Building and Construction Trades Department s Governing Board of Presidents. He is married and the proud father of three children and one granddaughter. He and his wife, Judy, live in Alexandria, Virginia. The International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers Union, AFL-CIO is a proud trade association founded in the 1890s. Iron Workers represent 120,000 members in North America that work on nearly every major construction project - the Golden Gate Bridge, the Sears Tower, the St. Louis Arch, the Oil Sands Plant Expansion in Alberta, the World Trade Center, and the Freedom Tower. Iron Workers work on bridges, structural steel, ornamental, architectural, and miscellaneous metals, rebar, and in shops.
