How about that Rita McElhinney and her group the Common Threads I just can t wait for that to take off, let s bring our new members into the fold. There are so many exci ng things going on in this group it would be a shame not to have everyone in the know!! The Coffee at Material Obsession was just great with lots food, food, food, so many ladies, raffles and loads of fun! Thanks so much Ginny and all your staff!!!! Some GOOD NEWS Maria Rhodes does NOT have cancer and her husband is doing very well with his, blessings to their en re family. We find out who our Member of the Year is this mee ng, be there or be square!!!! Nominees are: Catherine Stephan, Kim Pebley, Susan Sacco, Zola Stuart, Sherri Ashford and Susan George. Odegaards will be our guest speaker giving us much info on our machines and how to care and feed them! Don t forget. Others are counting on you as one of the exchangers. Please use the best quality of 100% cotton available. Make certain your cut is straight; not wavy or bowed. Depending on the number that sign up; it may take as much as two yards of fabric. It is better to use all of the same fabric for your swap. Turn them in at the beginning of the meeting to allow time to sort and then don t forget to pick up your bag after the meeting. Listen at the meeting for the number of strips. Friendship Coffee Socials Do it your way! We have had many types of coffees, no big expectations. Some just have a show n tell, some pick a theme, some demo something, some have Ice Cream, some have food, some just cake and coffee, etc, etc. Some have a daytime get together, some have an afternoon or evening. Whatever is best for you. The Guild provides $25 to offset the cost. PLEASE SIGN UP!! You will be the connec on to help new members to be informed about what we, in Havasu S tchers, do. You will let a new member know really what we are about. Phone reminders about classes, community outreach, coffees, par es, fabric exchange at mee ngs, to name a few. Sit together at the mee ng, talk about what is going on. Just Be There. Please bring your "orphan" blocks to the meeting Thursday (and perhaps a fat quarter or two to donate to the Quilt Show 2015 effort! The Boutique (Carolyn Victor and Bonnie Fryer): Bring finished items (for Boutique) to the meetings. We have a sign up sheet for project ideas. Requesting UFO s (to be completed by members for the Boutique). Listen for details about a drawing coming up for two Jelly Rolls (donated by Tina Benson). Bonnie Fryer and I are very excited about the 2015 Quilt Show Boutique. Although, we have many project ideas, we are looking forward to your ideas, new project suggestions, and of course, your support. We will be scheduling a meeting to exchange ideas soon, however, if you are out of town or unable to attend these meetings; please e-mail your ideas and suggestions to us via Missy Quilter. We are also asking for PIGS (Projects In Grocery Sacks). We will finish the PIGS and sell them at the Boutique. It is a win/win situation. HAVASU STITCHERS GENERAL MEETING Mohave Community College, Room 600 October 9, 2014 Call to order at 6:38 p.m. by President Sherri Ashford. September minutes were approved as wri en. Happy Birthday to all October birthdays. Welcome New Members: Lore a Ames, Sherry Schulenburg and Coral Sieber. We had four new members sign up tonight. They are: Kathleen Gibson, Susie Drennan, Geri Larson, and Bonnie Dubois. Fabric Exchange tonight was Halloween. Next month will be Plymouth Rock for Thanksgiving. Diana Stebbens explained about the fabric exchange so our new members would be informed. Rita McElhinney talked about the new member idea that we will be implemen ng. Members will sign up to be matched with a new member to help her get acquainted and to answer any ques ons she may have about Havasu S tchers. The name is Connec ng Threads and the older member will be called Threaders. (They will help thread the new member into the S tchers.) This would be about a two month commitment (or longer if you wish). So.sign up tonight and help new members feel welcome. Christmas Party Catherine Stephan encouraged everyone to buy their ckets for the party. There are 85 seats available. Christmas party is Monday December 8, 2014 at Quality Inn Restaurant 5:00 p.m. cocktails and 6:00 p.m. dinner. Cost is $10.00 per member and guests will be $20.00. So save you motel toiletries and give them to Do e. Community Outreach Wendy Howe reported for Karm and Vicki that 53 puppy pillows was made on Sunday. Sherri encouraged us to bring grandchildren to help with the puppy pillows 9 years of age and up. Save your scrapes for the pillows. Wendy reported that there were 11 sewers on Wed. at the Library and 22 Walker Bags were made. Wendy has quilts to finish so pick one up and help her out. As of September 19th she has given out 35 ladies quilts, 15 men s quilts, 15 walker bags and 26 adult bibs. (This was to 6 facili es). Wendy has requests for several more items. Do e Holman announced the coffee to be held at Material Obsession Monday October 27 11 2pm. MO will supply main course, if anyone would like to bring hors d oeuvres, dessert, or salad they can. Since it is Halloween week costumes are encouraged but not required. Raffle #1 Winner was Eileen Johnson. Member of the Year Barb Masden Barb had each member nominated to come to the front and show a quilt they had made. Nominees are: Sherri Ashford, Kim Pebley, Zola Stewart, Susan Sacco, Susan George, and Catherine Stephan. Ballots were distributed and everyone voted. HAVASU STITCHERS GENERAL MEETING Mohave Community College, Room 600 October 9, 2014 We are celebra ng tonight the Birthday of Havasu S tchers with a birthday cake. Our club was started in 1992 so we are 22 years young. Quilt Show: Pre sale on the opportunity quilt pa ern $20.00 for the quilt pa ern, $15.00 for the wall hanging and $20.00 for the embroidery s ck. This is the first pa ern done by the Havasu S tchers and many members have contributed their talents to make this possible. Sherri went around the perimeter of the room and introduced those members and their job responsibili es. Quil ng at the Lake Linda Visnaw Need more members to sign up some classes are very low in numbers and a couple of the classes are full and have a wai ng list. Samples are in at MO (near the front of the store) and JonAli will have their samples by Monday. They are different so check out both stores. Ques ons contact Lore a Frilot. Demo Sarah McNary showed her Mock Cathedral Quilt and showed us how it was done. Kevin Cabbage is selling the template for $8.00. Millie Anderlik s family has a wall hanging and appliqué that needs finished and they would like to donate it to the cancer society. Let Sheri know if you would like to do this. Show and Tell A M We had 11 members show their lovely work. Lore a Frilot read a thank you le er from Susan George for nomina ng her for quilter of the year. Quilt Show Maria Rhodes has offered to do the preview party. Next quilt show mee ng is the 2nd Monday in November at Sherri s home. Ann Creek needs people to make items for Hearts Desire. Ann shared the themes they have chosen and Adeline Reiten showed some golf theme items she has made. A workshop was held today at MO and pin cushions were made. Next workshop will be Saturday November 1 9 4pm at Eileen Johnson s home. Project will be wreaths. Bring sack lunch, drink and material cut according to direc ons. Sherri showed a wine cozy she made using 2 fat quarters. If everyone made one thing for the quilt show we would have 158 items. So sew, sew, sew! Strip Frenzy Winner Lisa Mousel.
