The Remdeling Prcess The big and bvius difference between building a new hme and remdeling an existing hme is that yu cannt start frm scratch. Just a few examples: Yu have t d demlitin befre yu can start cnstructin. The flr plan and style f yur new kitchen must take int accunt the surrunding rms and the architecture f the hme itself. Electrical, mechanical and plumbing cmpnents may need updating t be brught int cmpliance with current building cdes. Structural elements such as jists and lad-bearing beams may need shring up. Slanting walls and flrs require installers t adjust the height f appliances and cabinets accrdingly. With the multitude f what-ifs and maybes that cme up during a remdel, csts can munt mre quickly than mst hmewners expect, and labr may take lnger. Rbbinsville, NJ 08691 Email: inf@cenurykitchens.net Pull and Replace Remdel This type f prject simply invlves remving ld items and installing new nes in their place. In a kitchen remdel, this typically includes sme cmbinatin f flring, cuntertps, cabinets, appliances, sinks, faucets, and lighting fixtures. A kitchen remdel f this size and scpe prbably wn't take mre than 4 t 5weeks. Gut Remdel A gut remdel invlves "gutting" the entire kitchen by tearing ut the walls, insulatin, wiring and piping dwn t the framing. Why g s far? Older hmes ften have utdated plumbing, electrical and mechanical infrastructure that can't run all the mdern amenities. New insulatin can help keep yur hme warmer in winter and cler in summer. Gutting a rm als prvides the best pprtunity t add structured wiring fr all yur phne, fax, Internet, televisin and netwrking needs. Since a gut kitchen remdel prbably will take tw t fur mnths t cmplete, installing a temprary kitchen in an adjacent rm, the basement r garage is prbably a gd idea. Additin Smetimes, n matter hw yu try t recnfigure yur hme's flr plan, there's just nt enugh square ftage. Even a small additin adds significant csts, thugh, because f the need t pur a fundatin, add siding and rfing, and tie the new cnstructin int the ld. This type f renvatin requires an architect (smetimes even an engineer) t sign ff n the plans fr an additin. Depending n the size f the additin and ther wrk dne in cnjunctin with the additin, the prject's length will vary. Yur hme will be pen t the elements fr a shrt while and filled with wrkers fr several mnths.
