Glass countertops may be produced from clear and ultraclear glass, tinted glass, acid-etched translucent glass, clear glass with colored glass layers, standard and custom patterned and textured glass, fused textured glass, and with a wide range of color and pattern backcoating technologies. Andrew Pearson Design provides unlimited design, fabrication and sourcing capabilities in architectural and decorative glass. Our production facility is equipped with state of the art equipment, such as laminating, cutting, edging, mitering, polishing, beveling, UV bonding, sandblasting, back painting, which we call Flaircote, UV printing on glass, as well as our newest addition, Fuzion fused glass applications. 1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Installer Qualifications: Experienced Installer with minimum of 5 successful completed projects of similar materials and scope. 1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING A. Protect glass materials during shipping, handling, and storage to prevent breakage, scratching, or other visible damage. Deliver, unload, store, and erect glass materials without exposing units to damage from construction operations. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 MANUFACTURERS A. Basis of Design: Glass products specified are based upon products of the manufacturer below. Provide basis of design products[, or comparable products of a listed manufacturer approved by the Architect prior to bid]: 1. FUZION fused glass products by Andrew Pearson, Mt. Airy, NC 27030; (800)969-2156; sales@andrewpearson.us; www.andrewpearsonglass.com. 2.2 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS A. Scratch Resistance: Provide glass countertop surfaces with scratch resistance not less than when tested in accordance with ASTM. B. Impact Resistance: Provide glass countertops with impact resistance of not less than when tested at 30 mm thickness in accordance with ASTM. Specifier: Andrew Pearson provides a wide variety of standard and customized glass products available for glass stair applications. Consult your APD representative for available additions to the selec-tions shown below. 2.3 FUSED GLASS COUNTERTOPS A. Countertops: Direct-Mounted: Casework- or subcountertop- supported glass countertops of dimensions indicated on Drawings. B. Countertops, Stand-Off Mounted: Point-supported glass countertops with standoff supports of sizes and in locations indicated on Drawings. C. Nosing: [Straight, slightly eased at top] [Beveled] [3/4-inch (19-mm) bullnose] [1-1/2-inch (38-mm) laminated bullnose] [Profile as indicated on Drawings]. D. Backsplash: [4 inch (102 mm) high,] [straight, eased at corner] [beveled] [Height and profile indicated on Drawings]. E. Endsplash: [Match backsplash] [None]. F. Integral Sink Bowls: Provide integrally-case sink bowls in profile, dimension, and location indicated on Drawings. Page 3 of 6

2.4 COUNTERTOP MATERIALS Specifier: Consult manufacturer to verify documented percentage of recycled content for various fused glass products. A. Recycled Content: Provide fused glass units with post-consumer recycled content plus one-half of preconsumer recycled content of not less than <insert percentage> percent. B. Fused Glass: Kiln-fired full-fused flat glass heat-processed in single or multiple firings to produce the following decorative glass treatment: Specifier: Retain one of four decorative glass treatment descriptions below, or insert description of desired fused glass treatment. 1. Back-Coated Color Glass: Ultraclear low-iron flat glass, with acrylic epoxy color layer and protective paint layers applied to second (unexposed) surface and heat-cured. 2. Color Fused Glass: Multiple layers of transparent clear and tinted flat glass, fully tempered. 3. Light-Dispersing Translucent Glass: Transparent clear flat glass, fully tempered, acidetched textured on second (unexposed) surface. 4. Textured Patterned Glass: Clear flat glass, fully tempered, textured one side, in pattern selected by Architect from manufacturer's full line of textured art glass. 5. <insert glass description> C. Adhesives: Manufacturer's recommended elastomeric adhesives and primers. 1. VOC Content of Interior Adhesives and Sealants: Provide installation adhesives, sealants, and sealant primers for interior use that meet the following limits for VOC content per 40 CFR 59, Part 59, Subpart D (EPA Method 24): a. General Adhesive: 70 g/l. b. Architectural Sealants: 250 g/l. Specifier: Below is one example of standoff-type hardware available as an installation option for glass countertops. Consult Andrew Pearson Design for recommended hardware applications. D. Standoff Base: [3/4 by 6 inch] 316 stainless steel, No. 4 satin directional finish. Product: CR Laurence, www.crlaurence.com, S0B344BS. E. Glass Component Fastener Materials: Inserts, spacers, expansion bolts, and related materials as required for secure installation. Unless otherwise indicated, provide Type 316 stainless-steel fasteners. Provide stainless steel exposed fasteners with satin-polished No. 4 finish. 2.5 FABRICATION OF GLASS COMPONENTS, GENERAL A. Fabricate fused glass countertops in dimensions required, with edge and face clearances, and edge and surface conditions in accordance with manufacturer s instructions and approved shop drawings. B. Edge Finishing: Fabricate fused glass countertop edges to produce smooth edges without chips or scratches, ground, polished, and warp-free. Provide finished edges of type(s) shown on Drawings. Provide slight chamfers at junctions of edges and faces. Page 4 of 6

C. Machining: Drill, notch, and cutout decorative glazing as indicated. Make cutouts smooth and uniform. Polish exposed surfaces. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Glass Countertop Substrate: Verify that substrate for fused glass countertop is level and uniform within glass manufacturer's published tolerances, stable and secure, and adequate to support weight of glass and normal superimposed loads. B. Glass Units: Examine fused glass units prior to setting. Reject units that display edge or face damage that may impede performance of unit or that will be visible when installed. C. Proceed with installation once unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. 3.2 GLAZING INSTALLATION A. General: Install fused glass countertops in accordance with manufacturer's written instructions. B. Adhesive Setting: Apply adhesive in continuous bead of size and in location required by glass manufacturer. Provide spacers for glass where recommended. C. Mechanical Fastening: Fasten glass units to supports using [specified standoffs and] fasteners recommended by manufacturer for application. Do not overtighten fasteners. Prior to project turnover, test and re-tighten fasteners. 3.3 ADJUSTING, CLEANING AND PROTECTION A. Protect installed fused glass countertops from damage. B. Protect glass from contact with contaminating substances during construction. Immediately clean glass exposed to contamination using methods recommended by glass manufacturer. C. Clean exposed glass surfaces using methods and materials recommended by manufacturer. D. Remove and replace broken or damaged glass units. END OF SECTION Page 5 of 6

Additional Specifier Notes Submittals and Substitutions: When reviewing submittals or substitution requests, Andrew Pearson Design recommends particular attention to the following issues: Confirm that all required submittal items have been provided before reviewing submittal. Examine production samples to verify that visual and performance qualities of proposed product meet design intent. Confirm scheduled availability through qualified manufacturer/fabricator. Coordination with Drawings: We recommend you coordinate the following: Locations and dimensions of each glass countertop unit in plan, elevation and section. Locations for types of glass unit setting methods Thicknesses, profiles and edge conditions of glass countertops, backsplashes, and integral sink bowls Locations and details of items requiring cutouts or drilled holes, including sinks, faucets, soap dispensers Types and sizes of fasteners and supports, including metal types for exposed fasteners Details of reveals and edge conditions between glass units and adjacent construction Page 6 of 6
