AT & T Broadband World Headquarters, Denver, Colorado Barber Architecture, Intern: 1997 2001 For the interiors, Barber Architecture created a "corporate community" that encouraged synergy, cooperation, and interaction. The primary interior, two level circulation path, called "Main Street", is naturally lit by a continuous clerestory light monitor. To promote interaction and improve teamwork and efficiency, BA created an environment with an open plan and shared work spaces. The public lobby includes a reception hall with a monumental staircase that leads to a sidewalk café, an outdoor food market, and a sunny terrace. An award winning auditorium hosts a variety of formal and informal company functions, including employee gatherings. Multiple smaller spaces offer the opportunity for impromptu conversations essential to communication, creativity, and the exchange of ideas. Starz Encore Headquarters, Denver, Colorado Barber Architecture, Intern: 1997 2001 When seen from above, the building plan is two arcs joined by a central rotunda. The shape and mass of the building evolved from multiple discussions of vision and purpose for the company, and from several studies to accommodate the spatial and functional program while satisfying the desire of the CEO to incorporate feng shui principles. Geometry studies were merged with function, floor plate size, and cost estimates. The result is a building with infrastructure to support a state of the art, multi channel digital up link/downlink broadcast, including two levels of production and edit space on raised flooring, with independent AC and backup power. Other building features include a full service cafeteria with outdoor dining terrace, a fitness center, an indoor racquetball court, and an award winning precast concrete cast stone exterior.
