POWERPOINT GAMES William and Catherine Booth (in fine form as animated bobbleheads!) will take Honor Junior Soldiers through a fun and challenging review of Salvation Army Doctrine, History, Symbols and Terminology as contained in the Honor Junior Soldier course material. Each game contains between 8-12 questions with answer reveals after each. Game 1: Catherine s Class in Salvation Army Doctrine Game 2: Salvation Army History 101 Game 3: William Booth s Symbol Crash Course Game 4: Catherine s Class in Salvation Army Terminology Each game is available as both a Keynote presentation (Mac users) and a Quicktime video (PC users). Those using the Keynote option will have the advantage of manually advancing the slides at their own pace. DOCTRINE STUDY TOOL In the idocs tool, the eleven Doctrines are represented in multiple ways in order to encourage further understanding of the meaning of each, as well as promote retention. Each doctrine is represented: 1. as an icon 2. as a single word 3. in it s original written form 4. with a supporting scripture verse Designed to be printed back to back - one for Icons and Doctrines and one for Scripture and Doctrines - the idocs tool can be laminated and used as bookmarks, pocket cards, or Bible inserts, and used for a quick study reference. idoc files are included both as reproducible pages (pp. 4-7) and electronically as.png files for adaptation in individual settings. 3

ANIMATED CREST AND FLAG VIDEOS The Crest of The Salvation Army Incorporating fun animations, music, sound effects and backgrounds, the animated Crest and Flag videos break down the individual elements of each of these symbols one by one, explaining their significance and what they represent to Salvationists. A ticker runs along the bottom of the screen, containing a Scripture verse that corresponds to each element. SALVATIONARY REVIEW GAME SALVATIONARY! Salvationary! is a six-category game which tests Honor Junior Soldier s knowledge of Salvation Army History, Doctrine, Symbols, Terminology and Procedures. HJS will compete in teams to score points in the following categories, determined by the roll of the die : DRAW CREATE ACT GuESS PICTURE MATCH Roll a #1: HJS will choose a PURPLE card and then have 60 seconds to draw what is written on the card (no words, actions or sound effects!), trying to get their team to guess it correctly. Roll a #2: HJS will choose a GREEN card and then have 60 seconds to sculpt what is written on the card (no words, actions or sound effects!), trying to get their team to guess it correctly. Roll a #3: HJS will choose an ORANGE card and then have 60 seconds to act out what is written on the card (no words or sound effects!), trying to get their team to guess it correctly. Roll a #4: HJS will choose a BLUE card, and without looking at the answer side hold it against their forehead so their team can see the answer but they can t. By asking yes or no questions only, HJS try to guess what is written on the card. Roll a #5: HJS will choose a RED card which tells them which numbered Picture Card they will receive. The team will have 60 seconds to tell as many details (from what they learned in the HJS material) about the person or place in their picture. Roll a #6: Teams will choose a YELLOW card and then have 60 seconds to find the matching white card(s) from either the Procedure, Doctrine or Epaulet Cards. If a number appears on their YELLOW card, it indicates the number of white Procedure Cards that must be matched to it. 9
INSTRUCTIONS PREP, SUPPLIES AND SET-UP: 1. Gather one die, play dough, white board or easel, and markers. 2. Print colored Salvationary Cards. Print white Picture, Procedure, Epaulet, and Doctrine Cards. All cards are double sided. Trim to make cards. 3. Lay colored Salvationary Cards face down in 6 piles on the table in the order indicated, 1 through 6. Keep white cards to the side in four piles: Picture, Procedure, Epaulet, and Doctrine. These are for use in the Picture It and Match It categories as indicated. GAME INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Divide HJS into two teams. 2. Taking turns, roll the die to determine the category. 3. Select a card and follow the category instructions indicated on page 9 of this document. 4. Score points for each correct answer. 5. Award a small prize to the winning team (optional). SALVATIONARY!
