3M Far End Device What does it do? Model 1332 Far End Device 965DSP 1. It can send an ID tone to identify a pair to be tested. To do this, press the the ON key twice during turn ON, the FED will transmit an ID tone through the pair. 2. It sends the appropriate single or steps tones (Voiceband and Wideband sweep frequencies) for circuit loss measurements as instructed by the 965DSP. 3. It serves as a remote switch to strap (connect to) or un-strap (disconnect from) Shield/Ground, the Tip(A) and Ring(B) conductors as instructed by the 965DSP for Loop Resistance and Resistance Balance measurements. 9

Connect the to the pair under test at the subscriber end, as shown above. If the pair under test has not been previously identified, proceed to the next step. If the pair under test has been previously identified, proceed to step # 4. On 2. Press the ON/Off button twice Off to activate the Pair ID tone. The FED will then send ID tone to the other end of the cable. 3. At the test set end, trace the ID tone on the pair using the 965DSP db Loss function or an ID tone Probe/Amplifier. 4. Once the pair is identified, press the AUTO key Auto to go to the Auto Menu screen. 5. On the Auto Menu screen, select the type of test to be performed which requires the use of a. 13
