Chinatown Health Clinic Foundation Annual Report 2013
Dear Friends: I cannot begin to thank you enough for supporting the Chinatown Health Clinic Foundation. Your generosity ensured that Asian Americans and other vulnerable individuals receive critically needed health, education and social support services. In 2013, the Foundation continued to raise funds to benefit the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center. With your support, the Health Center provided 258,000 visits for more than 47,000 patients. Many patients are low income, do not have health insurance, and are limited in English proficiency. I want to share this letter from a Health Center patient, translated from Chinese: I am one of your patients. I don t have any insurance because I work part-time. I have not seen a doctor for more than 5 years. After a friend told me about your health center, I made an appointment right away. The doctor gave me a very careful examination. He told me how to take better care of myself. He gave me some free medicine because my blood pressure was high. A social worker then talked to me about my financial situation. She said not to worry about health insurance. The health center will help me. I feel very relieved. You have the best doctor and best social worker. The story shows how the Health Center is making a difference in people s lives. Each and every day, the dedicated staff work together to help patients attain their highest level of health, regardless of the patient s ability to pay. The Foundation is proud to partner with the Health Center to make sure that everyone who needs health care can get it, and the care they receive is high quality. Your donations also support the Dickson Hee and Dr. Thomas Tam scholarships. These scholarships provide career development and learning opportunities to the Health Center s frontline health care workers and to youth in the community. Thank you for investing in the Chinatown Health Clinic Foundation and your belief that everyone has the right to good health care. Sincerely, Raymond Fong, MD President
