Emergency stop of UV irradiation - 1: EMERGENCY signal Use the [EMER] signal to stop the UV irradiation of UJ20. Terminals [11] and [12] are shorted by a shorting bar as a factory default. Connect an emergency stop SW between these terminals so that the signal input can be turned off when the SW is pressed, and a forced stop of UV irradiation will be possible even in the middle of the process. 1: While the [EMER] signal input is off, the [] signal is off, and UV irradiation is not possible. 2: If the [EMER] input is turned off during UV irradiation, it will stop, and the [] signal will be output. Connect an emergency stop SW between [EMER]=[11] and []=[12] by B-contact. 2
Emergency stop of UV irradiation -2: signal Use the [] signal terminal [9] to stop the UV irradiation of UJ20. When the signal is input between terminals [9] and [12], the UV irradiation will stop, and the [] signal will be turned on. [] is output because the UV irradiation has not completed. Input [] again or hold down the [SET] key to release the [] signal. UV T 3
Emergency stop of UV irradiation -3: [EMISSION] SW Operation Press the [EMISSION] SW on the panel to stop the UV irradiation. When the UV irradiation is stopped by the [EMISSION] SW, [] is output because the UV irradiation has not completed. Hold down the [SET] key to release the [] signal. [EMISSION] EMISSION UV T EMER. 4
UV irradiation by an external signal (foot SW) (when using one head) When using a foot SW or other external signal to start the UV irradiation, use the [] input terminal for easier connection. When using only one LED head, connect the head to [CH1], and connect the foot SW between terminals [1] and [12]. Don t remove the shorting bar between terminals [11] and [12]. (Since the bar is used for an emergency stop signal, the UV irradiation is disabled if the connection is off.) UV irradiation by an external signal (foot SW) (when using one head) When using a foot SW or other external signal to start UV irradiation, use the [] input terminal for easier connection. UV irradiation starts when the [] signal is received while the [] signal is on. During UV irradiation, the [] signal is off, and the [] signal input is ignored. UV T T EMER. 6
How to use BUSY signals The [BUSY] output signals stay on during UV irradiation by the corresponding heads from CH1 to CH4. The BUSY1 to BUSY4 signals are output for heads CH1 to CH4 independently. Even if the output is set to 0% by the irradiation pattern setting, these signals are output. These signals can be used for controlling the indicator that is lit during UV irradiation by each head. UV-1 T1 UV-2 T2 7
How to use BUSY signals (Connection of UV irradiation indicators) UJ20 has a 5 V DC (250 ma) external power supply. Use this power supply and BUSY1 to BUSY4 in combination, and UV irradiation indicators can be directly connected without any external devices. If the head cable length exceeds 2 m, use the BUSY signals to install UV irradiation indicators in an easily viewable location for safety purposes. The external power supply is 5 V DC, and the maximum allowable load current is 250 ma in total. The maximum allowable load current for each BUSY signal is 100 ma. +5 V DC - + 5-24 V DC 8
signal modes: PULSE/STATUS There are two signal modes: [PULSE] and [STATUS]. [PULSE]: UV irradiation starts when an external pulse signal is input. When the preset time has elapsed, UV irradiation stops. [STATUS]: While an external signal is input, UV irradiation continues. When the signal is turned off within the preset time, the irradiation stops. When the preset time has elapsed, irradiation stops even if the signal is still on. UV irradiation only by signal inputs regardless of time setting UV irradiation can be freely controlled using only external signals regardless of the UV irradiation time setting by UJ20. [MNL]: Manual mode (1) Manual setting of the manual mode Hold down the [SET] SW, and the mode will change from [AUTO] to [MNL]. Press the [EMISSION] SW to start UV irradiation, and press it again to end the irradiation. The target CH (head) can be selected by pressing the corresponding [CH] switch. The [AUTO] mode is usually used. (2) Setting of the manual mode by using an external signal MNL. When the [MNL.] external signal is turned on, the mode changes from [AUTO] to [MNL]. In the [MNL] mode, while the external signal [-1/2/3/4] is on, the corresponding CH (head) continues UV irradiation. Note: * In [MNL] mode, the manually set UV irradiation intensity is applied. * The mode can be switched to [MNL] when the [] signal is on. * The [] signal stays off during irradiation in [MNL] mode. * The [] signal input is invalid during irradiation in [MNL] mode. Therefore, turn off the [EMER.] signal input to make an emergency stop of the UV irradiation. Reference: There is no limit on the irradiation time for the [MNL] mode while it is limited to 999 seconds for the [AUTO] mode. 18
UV irradiation only by signal inputs regardless of time setting: [MNL] irradiation If the mode is switched to manual mode by using the [MNL.] signal, the UV irradiation can be freely controlled using only external signals regardless of the UV irradiation time set by UJ20. (1) Input the [MNL] signal to switch to manual mode. When the mode is switched, the [] signal will be turned off. (2) While the [-1/2/3/4 ] signal stays on, the corresponding CH (head) continues UV irradiation. (3) When the [MNL] signal is turned off, the mode will be switched to [AUTO], and the [] signal will be turned on. MNL. -1 UV-1 MNL. -1-2 -3-4 MNL. -2 UV-2-3 UV-3-4 UV-4 19
UV irradiation pattern switching The UV irradiation patterns (TYPE00 to 15) of UJ20 can be switched with external signals [TYPE Cng1 to 4]. The irradiation pattern can be switched by changing the input status of the [TYPE Cng1 to 4] signals while the [] signal is on. Maintain the status of the irradiation pattern signals depending on the target irradiation pattern. The irradiation patterns are switched by setting the signal status of [TYPE Cng1 to 4] as shown in the table below. * While the [] signal is off, the irradiation pattern cannot be switched even if the [TYPE Cng1 to 4] signal settings are changed. * While the [] signal is on, the irradiation pattern can be switched by changing the input status of the [TYPE Cng1 to 4] signals. * When a pattern that is not registered in UJ20 is specified by the [TYPE Cng1 to 4] signals, the pattern is switched; however, the [] signal will be turned off. This is because the unregistered pattern is specified. * Use a PLC or other transistor output device to input the pattern switching signals. If a relay is connected, the pattern switching operation may be unreliable due to contact chattering. TYPE Cng 1/2/3/4 TYPE of UJ20 TYPE Cng1 TYPE Cng2 TYPE Cng3 TYPE Cng4 21
Remedies for outputs of [ALARM] and [] warning signals When the [ALARM] or [] external signal is output, the UJ20 operation is under a warning condition. Take appropriate actions by referring to the table below. When [ALARM] is output, the [] signal is on, and UV irradiation is possible. When [] is output, the [] signal is turned off, and UV irradiation is not possible. The UV irradiation continues. The LED head temperature has exceeded the warning level during UV irradiation. The UV irradiation stops. There are less than 30 hours remaining before the total irradiation time of the LED reaches the preset replacement print. The total irradiation time of the LED has reached the preset LED replacement point. The UV irradiation stops. The interlock contact, [EMER], was opened during UV irradiation. The irradiation was stopped before completion. The head to be used for the target irradiation pattern is not connected. LED circuit opening was detected during irradiation. LED short-circuiting was detected during irradiation. The UV intensity did not reach the set intensity. Remedy The head is overheated because the size of the head mounting bracket was inadequate. Review the choice of the head mounting bracket. Press the [POWER] SW during UV irradiation to check the LED head temperature. Replace the head and reset the total irradiation time. Hold down the [TIME] SW and select the channel of the head to be replaced. Press and simultaneously to reset the total irradiation time. Hold down [SET] to go back to the operation mode. Ensure the safety and then short the interlock terminal, [EMER] (11), and terminal (12). The [] external signal was input, or the [EMISSION] SW was pressed, and the UV irradiation was stopped before completion. Clarify and remove the cause. Hold down the [SET] SW and input the [] signal again to reset the error. Hold down the [SET] SW to reset the error. Connect the required head. Hold down the [SET] SW to reset the error. Turn off the power and check the cable and head. Replace them if necessary. The UV intensity calibration may be impossible depending on the head installation position and the lens type. Decrease the intensity setting and then retry the calibration. It is also possible that the lens is stained or that the head intensity has decreased. 22
UV irradiation is impossible although [] is not displayed When the UV irradiation cannot started by pressing the [EMISSION] key or inputting an external signal although the panel is not displaying [], the [] signal is off because the UV irradiation conditions are not met. Troubleshooting Remedy (1) Ensure that the shorting bar between terminals [11] and [12] is not detached. This [EMER] circuit must be normally closed. If the [EMER] signal is off, an emergency stop is made, and the [] signal is turned off, preventing UV irradiation. (2) The UV irradiation conditions have not been set for the TYPE number indicated on the UJ20 display. Set the conditions or switch the TYPE number to another one for which UV irradiation conditions have been set. EMER. UV T EMER. 23
Precautions for simultaneous input of the signal to multiple UJ20 controllers One signal can be simultaneously input to multiple UJ20 controllers. Add diodes to the terminals to prevent input signal currents from leaking. There are no problems when only one controller is used. However, as shown in Figure 1, when one of multiple controllers is powered on and the others are powered off, a small current from the terminal of the ON-controller passes the terminals of the OFF-controllers, their internal boards, and then the GND terminals. The leak current will cause the controller to misjudge that a signal has been input. Figure 1 Figure 1 POWER = ON MON (GND) POWER = OFF MON (GND) POWER = OFF MON (GND) POWER = ON MON (GND) POWER = OFF MON (GND) POWER = OFF MON (GND) As shown in Figure 2, add general rectifier diodes to the terminals to rectify the current flow. The signal current is approx. 15 ma. Also take the same measures for the input terminals other than the signal terminals. 24
