108-15298 Product 06-mar-03, Rev. O Specification CPE MASTER SPLITTER ADSL ASYMMETRIC DIGITAL SUBSCRIBER LINE 1 - INTRODUCTION Figure 1 This document describes an integrated POTS/ADSL splitter function specially designed to match 600 ohms line impedance The p/n 136966-1 is an ADSL/POTS master splitter designed to maximize the separation of voice and ADSL datastream over existing copper lines. Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) transmission technology using DMT line coding to transmit over existing copper wires that connect home and businesses to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). ADSL is very viable technology to support high-speed access because it enables a maximum downstream rate of 9Mbps and a maximum upstream rate of 640kbps. Traditional voice services can coexist with ADSL without interruption through POTS low pass filters. Overvoltage protection-circuit, due to the double operation on the line of telephone services (POTS) an ADSL services, is embedded in the splitter design. The pn 136966-1 integrate low pass filter which prevents the high frequency energy from reaching the POTS device and provide isolation from impedance effects of the POTS device on ADSL. In addition, this filter will also attenuate any wideband impulse noise generated by the POTS device due to the interruption of LINE current (e.g. pulse dialing or on-hook / off-hook transition). As the POTS splitter connects directly to the Subscriber Line media, it must also provide some protection for externally induced line hits or faults which could damage any attached equipment or endanger humans interacting with the installed equipment. This specification describes a splitter for 600 ohms impedance requirements. This specification describes the splitter as an OEM-product, focusing on electrical requirements, connectors and mechanical issues. Drawing by : F.
