Thank you Barb for your usual comprehensive covering of all things decoupage, as Secretary you always cover all bases. Having seen Di's photos of the Ekka entries, I would like to say that there is every reason to feel proud of the efforts of those members who contributed. All we need is for a few more recruits to swell the ranks. As you will have noted in Barb's notes, there will be a lot of activity in October, with the Craft Show in Brisbane and the Fair in Gympie. I hope we can involve more people to become members as we are in need of fresh faces and ideas. A special thank you to our judges for the Ekka judging. Thank you also Marion for the use of your home for our social day, and also for the plant bits and pieces from your great garden. Unfortunately. I won't be able to attend the annual meeting, but our very able vice-president, Ineke will be chair for the day. Please volunteer for the Craft show if you are available as spreading the load makes it easier on all. Regards to all, Heather, President. Page 1 of 7

Well, another Decoupage year has drawn to a close and yet again we face challenges as to how to maintain and encourage membership. The Guild's involvement in the EKKA and the October Quilt FAIRS are avenues to bring to public awareness that the art of decoupage lives on. Yes, it did read Fairs. Gympie Rotary has invited the Guild to participate in their Quilt and Craft Fair on the weekend on October 29/30 th. A table has been booked, and as well we have the opportunity to demonstrate or hold a short workshop. Of course this will depend on people being able to offer their time and pieces to do. So we are seeking pieces of decoupage to be made available for this trip to Gympie. YOU ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE. A couple of members have connections in Gympie, so this should make things a little easier. Check the Fair website www.quiltandcraft.org But before then, the Guild is committed to the October 5/9 th Brisbane Quilt and Craft Fair. It will soon be time to supply names of those available to staff this venture. Those helping in this way are admitted free to the event, but only if your name has been submitted as a helper so please consider which day/s suit you and advise. Have you started on your CINDERELLA BOXES sale of these is needed to cover costs of the space at the Fair. Sincere thanks must go to Ann McKee and Laurel Mills who gave their time and expertise to judge the EKKA entries. Congratulations also to all those who entered pieces to create this special display of decoupage. You would not have forgotten that August is the AGM, and that your annual subscriptions are due. The success of any organisation is full participation of members and be assured that help is always available in our friendly and informal group for any position you are prepared to fill. After the formalities of the meetings, Sue has offered to guide us in preparing our UNDER GLASS PENDANTS using recycled spectacle lenses. Please check you bottom drawers for any old pairs you may have to donate as well as suitable small images. The plan is to have some displayed at the Craft Fair and also offer this as the November workshop. Please come along on August 14 th with your suggestions for future workshops. Barbara Chapple (Secretary DGQ Inc.) Page 2 of 7

Health TIP EXERCISE We all know that exercise is a good thing, but too many of us do not do enough. Everyone is busy and it is sometimes hard to take time out for a run, some swimming or even a brisk walk. Doctors are certain, however, that everyone should keep active as it prolongs life, minimizes the chances of ill health, and keeps us mentally alert. Thirty minutes of activity every day also reduces stress. Page 6 of 7
