Installation 1. To separate the shell from the frame, the shell and the coupler boxes on each end need to be removed. Start by removing the Phillips-head screws holding the box in place on each end. Gently pull the coupler boxes out from each end. (Photo 1) 4. There are four screws holding the factoryinstalled board in place; one in each of the four corners. Remove these and simply lift the board from the model. Remove the remaining black plastic PCB supports and set aside. The longer screws will be reused later. (Photo 4) Photo 4 Photo 1 2. Lift the shell off by gently wiggling it from side to side while lifting from the frame. (Photo 2) 5. Prep the speaker by cutting a small notch in both the front and the back end supports to allow the styrene to rest flush to the speaker frame as shown. (Photo 5 and Figure 1) Photo 5 Photo 2 3. Familiarize yourself with the wiring and label the wires with the masking tape as needed (see the diagram at the end of this document). Cut wires close to the connectors to maintain maximum length. 6. Cut styrene as shown at the end of this document. Cement the four sides to the speaker as shown. Drill two holes using a #55 drill bit for the wires in the end piece nearest the speaker terminals. (Photo 6) 9. Secure the top of the speaker enclosure to fully enclose the baffle. (Photo 9) Photo 9 Photo 6 7. Solder two 4 pieces of purple wire to the speaker terminals, then thread these through the holes drilled in one end of the baffle. (Photo 7) 10. Mount the decoder to the top of the motor with a 1/2 x 3/4 piece of double-sided tape. (Photo 10) Photo 10 Photo 7 8. Using the two longer screws removed in Step 4, mount the speaker to the model using two of the holes along one side. (The mounting holes for the speaker are positioned in such a way as not to allow all four screws to be used.) (Photo 8) 11. Start wiring to the decoder by soldering the right track pickup wires (T-R) to tabs 1 and 10, and left track pickup wires (T-L) to tabs 4 and 7. 12. Solder the motor wires (M+ (yellow) and M- (red)) to tabs 5 and 6. (Photo 11) Photo 11 Photo 8
13. Solder the speaker wires to S+ and S-. Since only one speaker is used, polarity is not important. Trim off any excess wire below the tab after soldering to prevent the wires from protruding through the foam tape and to protect against short circuits. (Photo 12) 17. Solder the headlight wires to the headlight tabs. Red is positive and yellow is negative. (Photo 13) Photo 13 18. Test run the loco to be sure all wiring is correct. Photo 12 14. Take the loco for a quick test run using address 3. There will be sound and motor control, but no lights. Fix any problems encountered at this time. 19. Tuck any loose wires up and replace the shell. 20. Replace the coupler boxes. 15. Attach the reverse lights to the light tabs. Red is positive and yellow is negative. 16. Trim one of the two red wires from the headlight PCB. These are both positive leads and only one needs to be used.
