The Village Quilter Guild Programs and Workshops, 2013 Workshop sign up contact: Ruby Hoffman 760-728-7504 7 March 2013, Thursday Martie Winkelman Martie, a San Diego native, will present many of her quilts and beautiful wearable art. She will have many stories to tell and will give you lots of ideas for your future quilts and wearable s. Saturday March 9, 2013 One of a Kind Vest This will be a fun Saturday workshop as we make a vest from a pattern of our choice and let the creative sessions begin. Martie will guide us through different techniques and show us fabric manipulation.. We will be quilting, embellishing and embroidering on these One of a Kind Vest. Then we will have our own fashion show at the April meeting. 4 April, 2013 Thursday Cathy Van Bruggen Lecture - No Time to Sew Do you want to sew but just can't find the time? This program is an informative and humorous presentation designed to give members tips on how to use precious time to sew. April 6, 2013 Saturday 9 am Workshop: Nasturtiums Needle turn technique is Cathy s preference because it is so forgiving. The needle is used to turn the edges under so there is very little "prep work" involved. The results are a soft edge that gives wonderful dimension to your finished project. Workshops will be held at: Fallbrook Senior Center, 399 Heald Lane, Fallbrook CA -- 9am to 3pm Please have yourself ready to start at 9am -- $30 for members and $40 for non members Bring lunch and drink or a dish to share for potluck Contact Ruby Hoffman 760-728-7504 or quiltingruby@hotmail.com

President s Message March 2013 One of the things I like about Quilter s is that we are all unique. They continue to pursue something new- new techniques, new patterns, new fabrics, and new quilts. We are seldom bored or disinterested. Quilting is a great way to remain vibrant and engaged. At our workshop with Sue Rasmussen we learned a new way to use flying geese in our quilts using railroad tracks to design curves, as well as, unique borders. Our Nominating Committee will be working to identify officers and committee chairs to lead our Guild in 2013-2014. If you are interested in continuing to serve in your current position, or have an interest in serving as an officer or committee chair please let one of the members of the Nominating Committee know of your interest. Also, when you receive a call asking you to serve, please thoughtfully consider the request and don t hesitate to step up to the plate and shout I can do that I can help! We need you to be involved volunteers are the key to our continued success! The current Nominating Committee members are: Sylvia Williams (760) 731-2616 or (619) 972-0036 e-mail sylview@roadrunner.com Shirley Fleming (760) 310-7964 e-mail: peacerose54@hotmail.com Give them a call to let them know how you can help. Hope to see you at the March Meeting - Rosalie Mikelson Heartfelt love and sympathy goes out to longtime member and former Fallbrook Quilt Guild President, Linda Wright, in the recent death of her husband, David. Were pleased to confirm that two of our award winning quilters- Irene Althaus and Marguerite Grotey - have agreed to submit award winning quilts for inclusion in the special exhibit California Guilds :Award -winning Traditional Quilts to be on display at the Long Beach Quilt Show- we are really hoping that their quilts are selected for this special exhibit. Quilt Show Requests The Quilt Show needs volunteers to take on the Design Advertising Materials committee. The design for the flyers, bookmarks and posters is being created by Margaret Harwood but she needs someone to help her with the printed materials after they are designed. The committee will take the banners to be updated with the current date for this year s show. This committee can be handled by a small friendship group or by 1-2 people working with Margaret. Please review the committee s duties and responsibilities in the file on the website, http://fallbrookquiltguild.com/documents/2013%20committees.pdf. I will send you the complete committee description or bring it to the March meeting. This committee needs to start activities in March. The Quilt Show also needs volunteers for the Donations committee. This is a new committee for the show this year and the responsibilities include: Solicit and collect new and used quilt-related items as well as donations of Food-Booth related goods. Again the list of committee duties and responsibilities is on the website and I will be happy to send you the complete committee description or bring it to the March meeting. This committee needs to start activities in March. Finally, I d like someone (or a couple of people) to take on the Entry Forms Committee. The duties/responsibilities are on the website at the above link. I know many people will not turn in their entry forms until later in the year, but it is important to have the entry forms and guidelines for making a sleeve available as soon as possible. Thanks to all those who have already volunteered; your contribution makes a huge difference in the success of the show. Sandy Scott FRIENDSHIP GROUP OPENING If any Friendship group has an opening, PLEASE let Pam Wright know so that she can fit one or two people into a group. Thank you! Pam Wright 5

IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN MEMORIAL QUILT Our memorial quilt was displayed at the recent Southern California Council of Quilt Guilds meeting in San Marcos. We wanted to give many guilds an opportunity to include it in their upcoming quilt shows, particularly around San Diego County. Interest was high and a schedule is being prepared for the remainder of 2013. There will be a list of honoree names in the area served by each guild, and it is hoped that family members will have a chance to see the quilt at the show and view the potholder block honoring their loved one. A photo book of honorees will accompany the quilt, thanks to Sue Burns, who researched each name and located the best photo to include in the book. We are also providing a guest book for viewer comments. Carol Carpenter and I will attend and stay with the quilt at each show, but would welcome any FQG members who care to join us. Current list includes the following shows: February 16,17 10:00-5:00 South Bay Quilters Guild Show, Torrance Cultural Arts Center March 8,9 10:00-4:00 Lakeside Woman's Club Quilt Show, Veterans' Memorial Bldg. 12650 Lindo Lane, Lakeside, CA More shows and dates will be announced when confirmed.
