Saturday Workshops: Temari Buttons 9:00 a.m.-12:00 - Phyllis Maurer Material cost $5.00, Thread cost $5.00 It s time to raid your stash for those bits and pieces of leftover threads and metallics. These buttons are an ideal way to use some of them up. The examples above used only a yard or two of working thread to complete the designs shown. Yes, these are small, quick to stitch and totally ADDICTIVE! (The quarter is shown to give you an idea of their size.) The class kit will contain only a few basic materials (a plastic form, marking template, quilt batting and instructions.) You are asked to bring the following: Firmly woven piece of fabric (4 5 square is usually large enough.)use a color that will blend with the threads you have chosen. Scrap decorative thread 1 2 yards in length only 2 or 3 choices per button are needed Metallic marking thread 1 2 yards Regular basting thread of any color Needle with sharp tip (similar to Crewel or embroidery needle) Blue wash out marking pen (we will provide a few for sharing) Jar lids of desired size (need rim that measures at least ½ deep) Note: The tops of spice jars work great don t worry, you won t destroy them. Paper cutting scissors Tape measure (the best choice is one marked in cm.) Comments on the fabric: Stay away from strong, large, or easily recognized patterns. Plain fabrics, overall patterns, muted designs, or the reverse of some fabrics work well. Satins and shiny fabrics are beautiful when finished but a bear to work with. Recommendations on the threads: These buttons are smaller than traditional Temari, so go a little lighter on the threads. Suggestions to stitch with would include #8 Pearl cotton, Wildflowers, Danish Flower Thread, floss. For the metallic marking threads, use something comparable to Kreinik #4 or Candelight. 5
Beading class 1:00 p.m.-4:00 - Jean VanVleit Kit cost $8.00 Jean will be teaching a beading class, sharing her own personal touches. A choice of two kits will be offered for this project, a Daisy or a Pansy. All supplies are included except needles. We will cover finishing the 2 x 2 pillow as a scissor keep or fob. Daisy Pansy 6
