Part 1: Large DOF 1. Sht at Least 1 Scene. 2. Pick a scene with at least 3 subjects / bjects ging ff int the distance. 3. Gals: - Get fregrund, middle-grund, and backgrund in fcus with detail. - This is very cmmn fr landscape, City-scape, and architecture phtgraphy. - Use an aperture f f-16 r f-22. F-22 is better if yu have it. 4. Fcus the lens n the subject clsest t yu in the fregrund. Part 2: Shallw DOF - Single Subject With busy Backgrund 1. Sht at Least 1 Scene. 2. Pick a scene with a single strng subject in the fregrund and varius activity r bjects in the backgrund. Use nly 1 main subject per scene. Think f busy backgrunds. Avid slid clrs and unifrm walls as backgrunds. 3. Gals: - Blur ut a busy scene in the backgrund - Have sharp fcus and detail n subject in the fregrund. 4. Make sure yur main subject is 2 t 5 feet frm the camera. 5. Make sure yur busy backgrund is at least 10 feet behind yur subject. 6. Use the widest pen aperture yu have. (f-2.8, 4, r 5.6 at the mst) Mre extreme results at lwest number aperture (f-2.8) Mre extreme results at lnger fcal length

Part 3: Shallw DOF - Multiple Subjects Ging Back Int Space (Depth) 1. Sht at Least 1 Scene. 2. Pick a scene with multiple subjects (at least 3) that are distinctly visible in the viewfinder. Have the bjects psitined ne-in-frnt f the ther ging back int space. 3. Gals: - Yu want t blur part f the fregrund and backgrund. Have a small area f fcus in the center. 4. Get clse enugh s that the subjects fill the frame. Try t be within 2-3 feet f yur subject in the fregrund. Yu will get mre dramatic results. 5. Fcus the lens n the middle subject. Use the widest pen aperture yu have. (f-2.8, 4, r 5.6 at the mst) Mre extreme results at lwest number aperture (f-2.8) Mre extreme results at lnger fcal length Part 4: Shallw DOF And Clse-Ups. 1. Sht at Least 1 Scene. 2. Find a subject that is at least 12 x 36 lng in the shting directin (36 mving back int space away frm the camera). 3. Get as clse as pssible with yur camera lens. This means, that yu shuld nly see a prtin f the pile with the camera lens. Be aware f yur minimum fcusing distance. Mst camera lenses have a minimum fcusing distance f 22-28 inches. Yu may want t change t manual fcus fr this part f the assignment. Part 5: Yur Chice Sht an additinal 2 scenes. Yu can chse t cncentrate n any f the abve situatins, r play with Depth Of Field & Fcus in ther ways.see belw. Optinal Stuff fr Selective Fcus.If yu dare Fr the added challenge: try these techniques. In camera mving lens by changing fcus ring during expsure. Yu will need a lighting situatin that allws 4 secnds r lnger expsure time. Fcus the camera nrmally, and determine prper expsure (think rule f secnds). As yu take the picture, keep the fcus nrmal fr the first half f the expsure, and then change the fcus slightly by mving the fcus ring back and frth during the secnd half f the expsure. In camera mving lens by changing zm dial during expsure. Yu will need a lighting situatin that allws 4 secnds r lnger expsure time. Fcus the camera nrmally, and determine prper expsure (think rule f secnds).
