The 3rd EU-Japan Satellite Positioning Public-Private Roundtable 5 th March 2018 QZSS/GNSS Application Promotion In Japan Dr. Izumi Mikami Satellite Positioning Research and Application Center SPAC,2013 All rights reserved 1
1. Introduction -1 SPAC is a general foundation 100% funded by Japanese private entities and advised by several ministries including cabinet office. SPAC has been promoting and investigating application of QZSS with our industrial partners, focusing mainly; 1)L1-SAIF: Sub-meter class augmentation & Short Messaging for Mass Market, and 2)LEX: Centimeter class augmentation (CMAS) for Professional market. The 1st Michibiki Both augmentation date servers and user terminals for demonstration were developed by SPAC, and augmentation data were provided from 2011 to 2017, using the first MICHIBIKI. More than 140 demonstrations were conducted and results have being reflected to application businesses and QZSS open services which will start from April, 2018. 2
1. Introduction -2 In 2013, SPAC organized QZSS Users Community, QBIC* under support of Government, Academia and Industries. QBIC has been one of the best windows for SPAC to promote QZSS/GNSS application both in Japan and Asia-Pacific region. * QZSS Business Innovation Council (268 Industries & Organizations) Not only the governments but also QBIC believe collaboration between EU and Japan is a key of success in GNSS application promotion over the world. 8. Activity of Overseas Business development WG Overseas Business WG has been discussing how Japanese industry can contribute to Asia-Pacific Region using QZSS/GNSS technology and services. EU/Japan cooperation to solve social problems in Asia- Pacific region by GNSS application MGA Conference Introduction of Precise Positioning Technology to Asia-Pacific region through MGA activities Support of B2B business incubation between Asia- Pacific and Japan EU-Japan Roundtable GNSS.asia Collaboration Seminar 10
9. Collaboration with European Industries SPAC/QBIC has been supporting GNSS.asia, an EU Horizon 2020 project since 2013, aiming to develop industrial cooperation among GNSS industries in Europe and Asia-Pacific countries. Consortium and its collaboration network in Asia 11
10. Collaboration with Asia Pacific Countries -1 SPAC has been supporting Asia Oceania Multi-GNSS Demonstration Campaign (MGA) since 2010. We are honored to have been a good partner of EU to jointly promote MGA s three key activities as follows. 12
10. Collaboration with Asia Pacific Countries -2 In recent MGA conferences, SPAC has contributed in oral presentation, booth exhibition and GSA Asia Challenge. Thank you for EU support to MGA Activities, and SPAC continues our support to MGA. 13
11. Outcome So Far and Next Plan Some member companies of SPAC and/or QBIC have already decided to establish new business in areas of high-precision receivers, snow plows, autonomous cars, autonomous agricultural machines, utilizing QZSS centimeter level augmentation service. Mr. M. Hayashi, leader of Standardization WG, will introduce briefly key outcome of the WG. One of our next challenges is to study how to use augmentation data on smartphones, wearable devices, etc., to enhace application of QZSS technology and services drastically. As a part of QBIC WG activities, we are promoting Galileo demonstration experiment in Japan of its unique services. SPAC & QBIC are looking for opportunities to have technical advice from EU, as a joint application demonstration activity, in services of Centimeter Class Augmentation & Short Messaging (currently under EC Study). Thank you for your kind attention!! Dr. Izumi Mikami mikami.izumi@eiseisokui.or.jp 14
