Cut one 4" x 42" strip. Sub-cut the strip into ten Template C pieces. Cut seven 2-1/2" x 42" strips. Piece the strips into two 2-1/2" x 66-1/2" strips and two 2-1/2" x 58-1/2" strips for the outer border. Fabric K: Cut two 1-1/2" x 42" strips. Sub-cut the strips into eight 1-1/2" x 10-1/2" strips. Cut three 1-1/2" x 42" strips. Sub-cut the strips into eight 1-1/2" x 12-1/2" strips. Cut one 4" x 42" strip. Sub-cut the strip into eight Template C pieces. Fabric L: Cut two 4" x 42" strips. Sub-cut the strips into eighteen Template C pieces. Fabric M: Cut eight 7" x 42" strips. Sub-cut the strips into forty-eight Template B pieces. Cut twelve 4" x 42" strips. Sub-cut the strips into (144) Template D pieces. Cut five 3-1/2" x 42" strips. Sub-cut the strips into fifty-six 3-1/2" squares. Backing: Cut two 66" x 42" strips. Assembly Instructions: 1. To make one square-in-a-square block, place one 3-1/2" Fabric M square to the top left corner of one 6-1/2" Fabric A square, right sides together (fig. 1). Sew across the diagonal of the smaller square from the upper right corner to the lower left corner (fig. 1). Flip open the triangle formed and press (fig. 2). Trim away the excess fabric 1/4" from behind the triangle 1/4" away from the sewn seam. 2. Follow Figure 3 for the seam direction to add a 3-1/2" Fabric M square to each of the remaining corners of the 6-1/2" Fabric A square to make one A/M square-in-a-square block. 3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 to make three A/M square-in-a-square blocks, six B/M square-in-a-square blocks and five C/M square-in-a-square blocks. 4. Find and mark the center of the arc on one Fabric A-Template A piece. Find and mark the center of the curve on one Fabric M-Template B piece. Align the center points of the arc and curve then carefully pin the two pieces together. 5. Slowly sew the two pieces together, gently easing the curved pieces together. Clip the sewn seam without cutting the stitching and press to make one A/M curved block. Trim the block to measure 5-1/2" square. 6. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 to make the following large curved blocks: Sixteen Fabric A/Fabric M blocks Sixteen Fabric B/Fabric M blocks Sixteen Fabric C/Fabric M blocks 7. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 with the assorted Template C pieces and the (144) template D pieces to make the (144) assorted small curved blocks. Trim the blocks to measure 3-1/2" square. 8. Refer to the quilt photo and sew together four Fabric A/M Large Curved blocks to make one Large Pinwheel Block. Repeat to make four Fabric A/M Large Pinwheel Blocks, four Fabric B/M large Pinwheel Blocks and Four Fabric C/M large Pinwheel blocks. 9. Refer to the quilt photo for color placement to sew one 1-1/2" x 10-1/2" strip to each side of each large pinwheel block. Sew one 1-1/2" x 12-1/2" strip to the top and bottom of the large pinwheel blocks to make twelve assorted 12-1/2" square large pinwheel blocks. 10. Refer to the quilt photo to make eighteen assorted colors 6-1/2" small pinwheel blocks. 11. Refer to the quilt photo to lay out the large pinwheel blocks, small pinwheel blocks, square-in-a-square blocks and remaining small curved blocks. 12. Sew the bocks together into rows, sew the rows together to make the 54-1/2" x 66-1/2" quilt top. 13. Sew one 2-1/2" x 66-1/2" Fabric J strip to each side of the quilt top. Sew one 2-1/2" x 58-1/2" Fabric J strip to the top and bottom of the quilt top. 14. Layer, quilt and bind as desired. Templates on following pages page 3
