The Arizona Parks and Recreation Association would like to invite all photographers, both amateur and professional, to share your best original photos taken at any Arizona parks & recreation facility, event, sport, trail, program, or class. Submit up to (8) EIGHT of your favorite Parks and Recreation photos by Thursday, June 7, 2018 CATEGORIES A. Parks and Recreation in Action! - We're looking for stunning photos that showcase the best of our industry. Send in your best shots of how your community embodies the heart and spirit of parks and recreation. This category can range from community sports to senior wellness, to families enjoying your premiere amenities. The sky is the limit! Get creative on this one and hit us with your best shot! B. Landscape, Wildlife, Trails and Nature We're looking for photos that demonstrate Arizona s natural beauty. Whether it is a desert vista or pristine snowy serenity, our state covers it all. Send us your best shots that highlight the beauty and majesty within your parks and trails. We're interested in photos from all seasons and users in various modes of transportation - walking, running, bicycling, wheeling, snow skiing, etc. C. Recreation Programs, Sports, or Classes We're looking for photos of people enjoying programs, sports, or classes that are hosted by Parks and Recreation Departments. A "great photo" will capture the experience and context of the program, providing the viewer of the photograph with a sense of experiencing the program. Portrait-oriented photos in this category have the possibility of being selected but close-up photos of people should be entered under Category E. 1
D. Events Your festivals and events have a unique personality all their own- and we want to see it! We're looking for photos of people enjoying events produced or hosted by your department. Think about getting that amazing action shot or one that demonstrates the scope or captures the spirit of an event. E. Selfies, Faces, and Fun! There is no doubt that we parks and recreation professionals provide ample opportunity for fun; so let us see those smiles! We're looking for eye-catching, close-up photos of your users that demonstrate their engagement in your programs and activities. Show us how your community is swept away by your awesome programs and facilities. (Make sure you obtain a release form from the subject person (see Rule #4.) F. Then and Now Have you found a classic photo that shows your team or park back in the day? We want to see it! Many of us wouldn t be here if it weren t for the trailblazers that came before us, so help us honor all the ways our community and teams have changed through the years. We re looking for photos of facilities, activities, and recreation professionals from days gone by to the present. Photos may include a renovation, new construction, addition to existing building, past recreational programs from sports, events, or classes that are hosted by Parks and Recreation Departments. G. NEW!! Social Media Madness Join us for this new online campaign to show off some summer fun! APRA will be hosting an online photo contest from May 1 through July 23. Start posting your photos of all your summer fun, whether that is classes, events, camps, nature, staff engagement or other adventures. Share your pics on your facebook page and tag APRA (@azparksrec) and use #APRA18. Each month, (May, June, and July) one winning photo will be chosen. Winners will be announced at the APRA conference and special prizes will be awarded to the lucky departments. There is no limit to the number of pics or posts you can submit, so what s stopping you? Start snapping and posting! SUBMITTAL PROCESS & PARTICIPATION GUIDELINES 1. Eligibility The contest is open to all participants of any age. We especially encourage all Parks and Recreation employees and their immediate families to participate. 2. Deadline Submissions must be delivered to the Town of Fountain Hills Community Services, 16705 E Avenue of the Fountains, Fountain Hills, AZ 85268 by 5 p.m., Thursday, June 7, 2018 to be considered. 3. Photographer's Rights Photographer retains all rights to any photographs submitted - including ownership if applicable - other than those rights licensed in the next sentence. By entering the contest, the photographer hereby grants the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association: i. A nonexclusive, worldwide, irrevocable, royalty-free license to reproduce, distribute, use in publications and associated trade magazines, publicly display and publicly perform the photographs you submit to the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association
ii. The right to use your name, city, state and country of residence in promotions and other publications. 4. Photographer's Responsibility If you choose to include close-up shots of people in your submission, you are responsible for obtaining the necessary* releases from the individuals depicted and must be able to provide copies of those releases to upon request. (Any standard model release form will suffice.) *If necessary, some photographs fall under implied consent and public space rules. In addition, by entering the contest, the photographer herby grants the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association: 5. Photo Criteria i. A nonexclusive, worldwide, irrevocable, royalty free license to reproduce, distribute, use in publications and associated trade magazines, publicity display and publicly perform the photographs you submit to the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association ii. The right to use your name, city, state and country of residence in promotions and other publications. All photographs must have been taken within the past three years at an Arizona Parks and Recreation facility, event, sport, program, or class to be considered. (Does not apply with category F Then and Now ) Photos should accurately reflect the subject matter and scene as it appeared. Photos should not be digitally altered beyond standard optimization (removal of dust, cropping, reasonable adjustments to exposure, color and contrast, etc.). Multiple exposures that have been combined to produce a single "high dynamic range" image are acceptable. Image orientation may be portrait or landscape. Images should be high resolution of at least 3.2 million pixels (3.2 megapixels) or greater. Resolution can be calculated by multiplying the pixel width of the image with the pixel height. For example, a setting of 2000 x 1600 pixels = 3.2 megapixels. Images that do not meet these requirements may or may not be judged at the judging panel's sole discretion. 6. Judging The judges appointed by the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association shall determine winner eligibility in its sole and absolute discretion. All decisions made by the judges are final. Photograph entries will be judged on the following criteria: Overall impact Originality/creativity Technical excellence Relevance to theme: "Creating Community through People, Parks and Programs"
7. Awards Top photos in each category will be recognized with awards going to the first, second and third place choices. One overall photo will be recognized as Best in Show and be featured as the cover image on a future edition of the Arizona Parks and Recreation magazine. In addition, top placing photos will be featured throughout the conference including a display in the lobby as well as digitally during the award banquet. 8. Legal Conditions By entering, participants agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association, its respective subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, employees, attorneys, agents and representatives, from any all third party liability for any injuries, loss, claim, action, demand or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with the competition (collectively, "Losses"), including without limitation any third party claim for copyright infringement or a violation of an individual's right to privacy and/or publicity right. 9. Other Arizona Parks and Recreation Association is not responsible for lost entries. Arizona Parks and Recreation Association reserves the right to adjust any deadline(s) as the result of causes beyond its immediate control.
How to Submit: What Do I Submit? Photographers must submit both 8 x 10 in. print copies and provide high resolution digital copies of all photos wished to be considered for the contest, and must submit the Photo Contest Entrance Form 1.
