Have you ever wanted to know how fabric is picked for the shop? Muggs Meyer, our Wilmington fabric rep, will be here to show you the new lines and you can pick your favorites. She is also bringing a fabulous trunk show of quilts to inspire you. We will have specials on Wilmington fabric and treats for you. See page 6 for details. Space is limited, so sign up early. Scan N Cut classes are back on the schedule. If you have purchased a Scan N Cut and have not taken the "New Owners" class, be sure to sign up. We only have 6 spots per class. We've also added a class using the Rhinestone kit with the Scan N Cut. In this class, Val will also cover how to use Scan N Cut Canvas the free online program to create your own designs. For all you machine embroiders- find those rolling totes so you can bring your machines to our two new embroidery clubs. Create with Embroidery will meet the 1st Friday of the month and Happy Hoopers will meet the 3rd Friday of each month. You are going to love these projects. For the month of April, we will have a trunk show of quilts and recipe towels from Lunch Box Quilts. They are sure to inspire you to start a new embroidery project. Shop Hop runs April 23-25. Our theme is "Baking up a Quilting Feast". Each of the eight shops will handout a recipe card and have the recipe made for you to sample. We will also be giving you a quilt block pattern. We will have coupon books with 3 coupons from each shop to use the months of May, June, and July. The proceeds from the sale of these books will be donated to the local food pantries in each 1 Snippets from Sandy A P R I L 2 0 1 5 area. Join in the fun and visit all 8 shops with a chance to win a Brother Scan N Cut. Looking to May, mark your calendars for May 5 & 6. Debi Baker, a Baby Lock educator will be here to do a class on the Sashiko machine. We may do two days on the Sashiko or the second day on a serger. We are still planning, just wanted you to know so you can SAVE THE DATE. On May 20, Carolyn McCormick, the creator of the add a quarter ruler will be here to do a paper piecing class. More details to follow. It s Mail Call time! If you made a postcard during a Post Card Party, your postcard has been exchanged and you can now pick up a new postcard at the shop. We monitored sales during our evening hours in March and at this time we will not be extending our hours. We will revisit evening hours again in the fall. I would like to remind all of you who purchased embroidery software at the Dime Inspiration Social to watch the video tutorials. These can be found at www.inspiredbydime.com. Beginning Quilting At the end of the 4 sessions, you will have learned the basic skills of quilt making: fabric selection, rotary cutting, accurate piecing, and adding borders. How do you know which to use? How do you make precise mitered corners every time? Add interest to your binding with scallops, prairie points, and flat piping. We will guide you to the answers and a beautiful finish to your quilts. The new version of the book Happy Endings is required for class. BYOM $25 + book; supplies included Wednesday, April 8: 5:00-700 pm Learn to Use... Curvy Log Cabin Each month we will have a class on a Creative Grids ruler. The class will be geared towards learning to use the tool and not necessarily making a specific project, but we will have project ideas for you. For this class you will need the 8 Curvy Log Cabin tool if you don't already have one. We will supply the practice fabric. Bring your sewing machine, rotary cutter, small mat, and basic sewing supplies. $15 Stash Buster You know all that fabric that you have and keep saying you need to sew it up? We have a fun day planned and we'll give you some great ideas of what you can do with all that fabric. Join Claudia for SEWING and Blast that Stash. Sewing Machine Explore Your Sewing Machine Explore the features and stitches of your new machine. You will stitch samples of the utility stitches, buttonhole(s) and basic sewing techniques. No charge for machines purchased at Rae-Bon, $50 for others. Bring your machine, accessory feet, foot control, power cord, spool of thread, and bobbin. Thursday, April 2: 5-7 pm Embroidery Basics (for all machines that do hooped computerized embroidery) This class will cover the basics of machine embroidery which includes machine functions, thread selection, stabilizer selection and positioning designs. No charge for machines purchased at Rae-Bon, $150 for others. Bring your machine, embroidery arm, power cord, embroidery foot, 4 x 4 (or 5 x 7 ) hoop, and spool of embroidery thread. Monday, April 13: 1:00-4:00 pm Explore your Scan N Cut Learn the basics of using you Scan N Cut. The class will cover scanning a pattern, cutting multiple pieces of a pattern, scan to cut a design printed on fabric, how to use every scrap of fabric, using built in templates, and more. We will discuss how to get your fabric ready for the Scan N Cut. No charge if you purchased your Scan N Cut at Rae- Bon, $50.00 to others. Bring your Scan N Cut, all mats, and accessories. Fabrics will be provided in class. Tuesday, April 7: 2:00-4:00 pm Saturday, April 18: 10:00am - 12:00 pm Wednesday, April 22: 5:00-7:00 pm Scan N Cut with Rhinestones The Rhinestone Kit is a great add on to bling up your life. The kit comes with 100 rhinestone patterns plus the ability to create your own on Scan N Cut Canvas. In class, Val will show you how to create a free account and get started building your designs and then turning them into rhinestone designs. Bring to class your Scan N Cut, Rhinestone Kit, something to put your design on ( bag, T shirt, etc), and a jump drive. Class fee is $10.00 if you purchased your Scan N Cut at Rae-Bon. $25.00 for others. Thursday, April 16: 5:00-7:00 pm Class Policies Call or stop in to sign up and pay for the class of your choice. Class fee is due when you register. Phone registrations (701-433-7203) accepted only with a charge card payment. The class supply list will be available when you register and pay for the class. Supplies are not included in the class fee. Please have supplies purchased before class. Kits required are available at the store. BYOM means bring your own machine. No photocopied patterns or books will be allowed in classes. We consider your enrollment to be a commitment by you to take the class and we in turn make a commitment to the instructor. No cancellations are allowed on classes. Thank you for not asking us to make exceptions. Your sewing machine or serger must be in top working condition before you arrive at class. Students whose equipment is not working properly disturb and slow down the class. We service all brands of machines and sergers so come see us prior to the start of the class. 3 If you get together a group of 2 or more friends, we would be happy to setup a class date and time just for you.
Create with Embroidery Sealed with a Stitch has brought us an exciting new embroidery club. This month we will be making a flower with a chalkboard center. The possibilities for using this flower are endless. Glue a clothespin on the back-use for food markers at your next summer party. Size down in software for hair clips. Lets see how many uses you can come up with. Class fee is $20.00 and includes complete kit with embroidery design. Bring your embroidery machine and a spool of pink and green thread (suggested colors madeira polyneon 1990 and 1850). Lets stitch up a flower garden! April Showers Layered Flower Wreath is our first project creating in the hoop dimensional flowers and learning to center embroidery on covered buttons. Friday, April 17: Sew with us at 11:00 am or 6:00 pm Hand Stitcher s Club Gather together with other handstitchers to exchange ideas, share stitch knowledge, and have fun while working on projects of your choice. Fee $5.00 Wednesday, April 22: 1:00 pm-3:00 pm HoopSisters Sewn Seeds Open Sew Join us for open sewing time to work on HoopSisters EmbroidaBlock of the Month: Sewn Seeds. Monthly Gatherings Continued PhD (projects half done) Study Hour PhD is for anyone who has unfinished projects less than 50% done. Register your unfinished projects by bringing them to the shop on Thursdays between 4-6 pm. Each time you complete one of these projects, you may enter a drawing to win a $25.00 gift card. Drawing will occur twice a year in June and December at our PhD party. Finished projects will be check in Thursdays between 4-6 pm. We will take your picture with your finished project and post on our Facebook page. Sign up is required each week to reserve your sewing space. There is no charge. Thursday, April 2, 9, 16, & 30: 11am-5 pm No PhD on Thursday, April 23 due to the Valley Shop Hop. Simple Whatnots Simple Whatnots is a seven month club of miniature quilts (nothing will be bigger than 40 square). Each month we ll meet to talk about the next project. Claudia will share tips, tricks, and new products. We ll have coffee, snacks, and show & tell. To join the club, simply purchase the Simple Whatnots fat quarter tower. Tuesday, April 14: 1 or 6 pm Stitcher s Society Stitcher s Society is a group for hand embroiderers (beginners and those with experience). Each month we ll be learning new stitches and making gorgeous wool appliques on hexagons (wool, cotton, or flannel backgrounds). At the end of the program, you can turn your hexagons into a quilt or use them in smaller projects. This club will meet the 1st Wednesday of each month for the next 12 months. The complete program is a one time fee of $180.00 Wednesday, April 1: 6-8 pm Lunch Box Quilts Trunk Show In April, we have some beautiful quilts on display from Lunch Box Quilts. Lunch Box Quilts features machine embroidery applique to create whimsical designs. We ll also have some of Lunch Box Quilts recipe towels to show. 5

Sign Up Today Each month we ll be featuring a new project from Hope Yoder at our newest embroidery club, Happy Hoopers. Bring your machine and stitch out the projects with us. The class fee each month will include the embroidery design and instructions on a CD. In April, we ll be making an April Showers Layered Flower Wreath.
