Tips JUMBO s TIP: Consistency. Your biggest challenge is going to be finding one hour a night. Finding one hour each night to fit in work isn t a particularly hard task but the problem is that it is easier not to do it than it is to do it. Here are my four tips for consistency. 1 Achieve balance, keep doing the things you love and fit the study around it. If you are balanced, you ll be happy and productive and you won t feel like you are sacrificing too much. 2 Focus on the reward not the task. Remember that balance will only take you so far. There are times when you are going to have to sit down and do the work. There will be times when you need to be selfdisciplined. The easiest way I found to get myself to work was to focus on the reward, that is, focus on what I wanted to do when I finished the year. The upside of the reward usually dwarfed the boredom of having to do an hour s work and I would usually manage to get the work done. 3 Remember it is only one year of your life. One of the best tips I was ever given was to remember that it is only one year of your life there is light at the end of the tunnel. I am now 21 and I have never looked back on Year 13 and said, What if I had gone to Boris party? but I know that if I hadn t got into the course I wanted, I would have definitely looked back on the year and said, What if? 4 The sacrifices aren t that great. Remember at the end of the day the sacrifices aren t that massive. Most of the top students are out partying and doing all the things everyone else is doing. Sure there may be times when you need to miss an event to get work done but at the end of the day it doesn t happen that often. Get tips from presenters like Jumbo on Twitter: @ukelevate 5
