This nationally and internationally known fiber artist is sure to da zzle us with her personally designed and beautifully embellished quilts. Cheryl is originally from Chicago and now lives in Santa Fe. She has taught and lectured through out the United States and in Japan. Her designs display incredible creativity, techniques, and countless hours of work.

WHAT IS COMMUNITY SERVICE? Community Service is a branch of the Guild that donates quilts to our community, and to others, when a need arises. We all love our quilting, and these quilting projects provide a wonderful avenue for sharing love. Some of the recipients of our quilts have included: Project Linus, Crisis Center of Northern New Mexico, Family Strength Network, Habitat for Humanity, Gulf States Quilt Ass.-Hurricane Katrina, UNM Carrie Tingley Children's Hospital, Ronald McDonald House in Albuquerque, S.F. Women's Shelter, Cerro Grande fire victims, IHM Injuried Soldiers, Greensburg, Ks tornado victims, S. Ca. Council of Quilt Guilds - Ca. fire victims, Clovis & Logan N.M. fire victims, The Ark Child Care Center in Los Alamos, and quilts & supplies to Mexico. In February we host a Valentine's luncheon for the Senior Quilters where we provide the food and quilts for Show and Tell. We also donate $100.00 every year so they can buy batting, thread, etc. In the spring we like to get together to sew quilts for donati on. This is usually on a Saturday from 9-3 at one of the churches. We have coffee/coffee cake, a pizza lunch with dessert, and LOTS OF FUN. You can bring a quilt you started at home and finish it, or start a new one that day. The Guild supplies the batting and/or backing, and if possible, some material to use for your top. This is a great opportunity for new quilters to learn by working with some of the more seasoned quilters in the guild. In the fall we have our annual Sew-a-Thon. Again, this is time to get together, form groups, and make a quilt to donate. The batting and/or backing is supplied by the Guild. Individuals, as well as clusters, are encouraged to make quilts for donating. In April, three quilts made their new home in Mexico thanks to Laura Erickson, Nancy Lemons, and Wilma Cowan. We also received two sew -a-thon quilts - one from the Old Bats cluster, and the other by Jeane Strub and her group. Just a note to mention - One of our officers overheard some people from the Ark Day Care Center commenting on the lovely quilts we donated. They couldn't believe that someone would mak e these quilts then give them away. They were absolutely thrilled to receive them. -- Debbie Claytor Fuller Lodge Friends: If you might like to help with the entire anniversary quilt OR if you would like to help with stages of the construction, please call me, Linda Goforth, at 663-0683 as soon as possible. We are going to design the quilt very soon and I would ask that a young woman or man help in the design along with the 4 people who have agreed already to help with th is quilt wall hanging. I even have someone from ABQ who will come up to help, a former Los Ala mos young woman who is making a business of making quilts. You may know Dina Bramlett Nail. ---Linda Goforth, GoforthLJ@Q.com

August s Program and Workshop Libby Lehman, our guest speaker in August, will talk on "Creativity for Klutzes" on Tuesday, August 26 th at the guild meeting and will do her new workshop Super Machine Stitching on Wednesday, August 27 th. Libby has been here in Los Alamos beforeto dazzle us all with her threadplay. She is a nationally known quilter, author, and teacher. Creativity for Klutzes If your creative juices are drying up, your mindset is on hold, or your quilts are boring, this lecture is for you. Libby will reveal her simple methods for priming the creative pump. Get ready to be inspired! Her workshop on Wednesday, August 27th will be on "Super Machine Stitchi ng." The time of the class will be determined by Libby and the participants (9-4 or 12-7). This is a new class - Libby has not taught this here before. NEW! Super Machine Stitching Explore all the possibilities and variations of machine stitching.class will cover anchoring, satin stitching, combining stitches, using a double needle and free -motion stitching. More information about Libby and her quilts at: http://libbylehman.us/index.html Block of the Month The May Block of the Month was won by Diane Johnson. The April Block of the Month was won by Sue Friar. The Block of the Month for June is only 6 inches so I have asked that you make two of the Bow Tie blocks. Since these blocks are quick and easy I thought it would be nice if we donated some to Brenda Eduskuty to use in her quilts for soldiers. The blocks made for the guild block of the month need to use the white on white background available from Pandy. The blocks you make for Brenda's group can use any white on white. I realize that we are all busy with summer projects but let s all try and make 2 or 4 or 6 blocks f or Brenda's group. Any red and any blue work for both sets of blocks. Roadrunner Shop Hop 2008 June 25 - June 30. All stores open 10 am to 7 pm all 5 days. Participating stores are: Taos Adobe Quilting, Rags and Old Iron, Pandy's Quilt Store, Santa Fe Quilting, Southwest Decoratives, Quilts Ole, Quilt Bugs and Quiltworks.
