~ HAVASU STITCHERS ~ Lake Havasu City, Arizona An Affiliate of the Arizona Quilters Guild volume 20, Number 5 May 2014 Have you heard, Nooooo??, well read on... Holy Moly I cannot believe we elected another Havasu S tchers board!!! Thanks to all of you. We have such a great guild and we are all set to have another GREAT year. Look for all the new officers in this newsle er, when you see them give them a pat on the back fun fun fun to come PLEASE BE AT THE MAY MEETING APPRECIATION NIGHT and something for everyone. There will be 3 baskets raffled off that you do not even need to buy ckets for!!! You will have to buy ckets for the 50/50 though!! Come and say thanks to the outgoing and incoming officers and chairs. There will be some special individual awards given and centerpiece madness. You have to come and join all the fun. Bridge of Friendship XI Quilt Show 2015 Chairman We will have a basket at each mee ng, or send to me, for any of your Orphan blocks, these will be used to make quilts for silent auc on or just for sale. Bring them in!!! Looking for volunteers for: Preview Party; Program Booklet; Publicity; Quilt Presenta on Floor Layout.. give me a call or come the to the next mee ng Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 6:00 at Sherri s house! We are truly truly looking for many many items to replenish our coffers!! Aprons, potato bags, pin cushions, needle holders, bags bags bags, etc. not just for the Quilt Show Bou que but for all of our events that we set up a booth for!! Sewing Strategies - Fun Facts: Stitch Density settings in embroidery are the reverse of most other settings, in the sense that you select a higher setting number for lower stitch density (fewer stitches, with a more open texture). Stitch Density setting numbers indicate the spacing between the stitches, and the higher the number, the farther apart the stitches, resulting in lower density! Whew that was a mouth full. Tip of the Month: A good tip when washing flannel so that all those loose ends don t tangle is put it in a pillowcase first. I wash like colors together and dry them the same way. No more tangled mess when done! Quilting Out Loud!! - Sherri NOMINATING COMMITTEE THANK YOU, RUBY WORRELL, FOR HEADING UP THIS COMMITTEE Timeline: Nominations of the Officers - March meeting. Voting in of the Officers - April meeting. Installation of the Officers - May meeting. The new Board assumes duties on June 1st. SPOTLIGHT ON OUR MEMBERS LINDA IRA We moved to Havasu in 1992 and built our own home. We had lived in Upland, CA. and was one of the many crazy ones that came and boated here. Our first time to Havasu was July 4th weekend. We could not wait to get the boat in the water and find our camping spot on the shore. We put the tent up to save our spot and had a great day on the water. You can guess how well we slept that night in the tent that had baked all day in the sun. It was so hot we had to go down and get in the water to cool off several times in the night. It was not fun! I told Dave don't talk to me about Havasu again unless we stay in a motel. We came boating many times after that and fell in love with Havasu. We decided we wanted to retire here so we bought our lot in 1989. I made my first quilt (King size) in 1993 which was weaver fever pattern. I joined Havasu Stitchers in 1995 and was a member for about 4 years. I quite the club as my life was busy with other things and I was scrap booking for the grandchildren. I joined Havasu Stitchers again about 4 years ago. Quilting was not in my family but I always liked making things. I love to bake, knit, do counted cross stitch, scrapbook, read, entertain and of course quilt. I am active in my church (Calvary Baptist), P.E.O., Republican Women, Marine Corps League Auxiliary and Havasu Stitchers. My favorite charity is Hospice. I have enjoyed meeting all the wonderful quilters and I am so thankful that we have so many quilters willing to share their knowledge with others. Thanks, Linda Ira 8

Keep clean fabric scraps NO batting in a clean large plastic zipper bag or clean container. Just keep them handy so when we meet, you can just pull the bag out and drop it off at our pick up point. We need people to cut up pieces and stuff. We need people to sew up the pillow coverings (outsides). We will provide the fabrics. Please bring your machine and be ready to have fun and make some dogs and cats very happy and comfy. All you need to do is bring your sewing machine, rotary cutter, $5.00 for rent, and any fabric you might have that can be used for the pillow covers. Please do not take any scraps or fabric to Jon Ali's prior to the sew session. Chris does not have storage space. Future dates are TBD I think we are the only group that makes the pillows for the Humane Society. We REALLY need your help in making these items. Thanks.
