t February 1-11, 2017 Nature Craft: Enjoy these fun nature-themed activities geared toward adults and older children. This winter we offer Beachstone Jewelry and origami fish. Star Gazing: A big dark sky with lots of stars is a memorable part of the Weekapaug experience. Join the Naturalist after dark to spot the moon, stars and constellations. Birding by Van: Utilizing the Inn van we will visit locations where we will likely spot seasonal birds through our spotting scope. Talking Birds : Join our naturalist, Capt. Mark, to chat about the seasonal birds and where and when to spot them. We might even spot some through the lobby telescope. Van Tour to Watch Hill for Sunset: This outing is about an hour long and we typically drive to the lighthouse for big views of the sunset. In the event of overcast sky, we will explore this charming village and its history. Naturalist s Van Outing to Kettle Pond Visitor Center: KPVC is located in a lovely modern building in the woods of Charlestown, which is also the regional headquarters for US Fish & Wildlife. The visitor center features beautiful dioramas and displays that represent various habitats found in the five Rhode Island refuges. Solar Sunday: View the sun through our beautiful scope outfitted with a high-end solar filter. This is a safe way to see sunspots on the surface of the sun. Van Tour to : In the cold winter months a trip to the historic Watch Hill lighthouse is a fun way to get an up-close view of the Atlantic from the warmth of our van. Big views and a lovely lighthouse. Naturalist s : Join our naturalist on an hour-long walk down the barrier beach. He will point out wildlife, interesting plants and landmarks. The beach is beautiful and great for walking throughout the year. Guides: The following guides are available at the front desk: Local jogging and biking maps. New Year s Vigorous Walk: Join in on a brisk walk to welcome in the New Year and chase away the cobwebs from New Year s Eve. At about ½ hour in length, it will be a great way to work up to New Year s Day brunch. S mores at the Fire pit: Tokens for $ 5.00 can be purchased at the front desk. Guests who dined in the restaurant are free. Weather dependent. Friday Evening Guest Reception: Please join Innkeeper Simon and Naturalist Mark while enjoying a complementary glass of wine and tasty cheeses. This is a great way to meet other Inn guests, and to learn about the Inn and area attractions. Capt. Mark has a chart of our waters and will point out landmarks such. Slide Show: Join Capt. Mark for an overview of the Inn s history along with historical photos of the mega hurricanes from the 38 through Sandy. Inn Tour: Join our Naturalist for a walk around the building.
