Back from Market I m fresh back from International Quilt Market that was held in Salt Lake City this year in May. I love attending Market and getting fresh ideas and energy and can never wait to get home to share them with everyone! This year was no exception although I was a bit disappointed in the buying portion of Market overall. I found a few new to the store products, but not as much as I have in previous years. A lot of the pattern designers were into wool and the primitive look which I have not embraced thus far. But I have added to our extensive button collection (both novelty and the larger buttons great for purses), found a couple of new patterns that blend the modern movement with the traditional look, and have found a new seam guide that looks very interesting. Most of all I came back with some great ideas which I hope you will benefit from and will help you grow as well in our beloved creative endeavors. Such as... We will be starting a UFO support group in October to help you manage those unfinished projects and get your sewing space in a more productive state. EVENTS On June 30th from 4 pm - 5:30 pm we will be hosting our annual Taste of Market where I will have the new products I found displayed in our classroom. During this event only, the new products will be 15% off. We will also be holding a Michelle s Stash Sale. We will have fat quarters and half yards from my personal stash on sale for $2 a fat quarter or $4 for a half yard piece. These fabrics are no longer available and will be limited availability to what we have on hand. We are participating in the Row by Row International Shop Hop again this year. We ve had so much fun doing this for the last couple of years and are looking forward to this year. This year s theme is Home Sweet Home. I have designed a totally pieced row block with some added fun with optional embellishments. Row by Row starts June 21st and runs through September 6th. You can go to rowbyrowexperience.com to see a list of all the participating shops. I haven t heard how many shops are doing it this year, but it includes shops from all 50 states and all the territories in Canada. Each shop s block will be posted on each state s Facebook page, so you can preview each shop s row before visiting the shop. Each participating shop will give away a free pattern for a row 36 long by 6-9 tall. You must complete a finished quilt containing at least 8 different rows (doesn t have to be from same state) to be eligible. You must pick up the pattern in the shop. They cannot be mailed until November 1, 2016. The first person to finish a quilt and bring it in to a participating shop will win a bundle of 25 fat quarters. All entries must be submitted by October 31st. You may only enter your quilt in one shop. 3
Each participating shop will be giving away a free pattern for a 36 row when you come into their store. Complete a quilt containing at least 8 different rows, bring it into one of the participating shops and if yours is the first one entered, win a tower of 25 fat quarters (may only enter for first prize at one shop). All 50 states & Canada are participating in this event this year. Your finished quilt may have rows from any state. Upcoming Quilt Shows The Mountain Stars Guild will be hosting their biennial quilt show Friday & Saturday, June 24th and 25th in Medford at the Cascade Christian School. In August, the Oregon Coastal Quilters Guild will hold their annual show at the Newport Recreation Center on Friday & Saturday, August 5th and 6th. Then Cresent City will be hosting their biennial quilt show on Saturday & Sunday, August 20th and 21st and the Del Norte Fairgrounds. Other Important Items Will be holding a few free sew workshops this summer but are gearing up for fall. We would love any input as to what type of classes or events you would enjoy participating in for the remainder of the year. We will be closed for Father s Day, June 19th. We will be open only from 10 am to 3 pm on Monday, July 4th. Our regular store hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 am to 5:30 pm and Sundays from 11 am - 4 pm. Have a wonderful summer! 4
Strips & Ladders Friday, June 10th 10 am - 4 pm Taught by Michelle. $20 What a great & simple way to use one of those jelly roll bundles that always seem so irresistible! This pattern works great with batiks but would also be fun with floral groups or holiday bundles. Pattern required. Strip Joints Saturday, June 11th 10 am - 4 pm Taught by Rosy. $20 Love those jelly rolls, but aren t really sure how to use them? Pick one from your stash or pick one up at the store and join Rosy for an easy quilt that turns 2 1/2 strips into a whirligig type pattern. Pattern required.
