Stitchers Quilt Guild A HARDIN COUNTY COOPERATIVE EXTENSION HOMEMAKER CLUB Letter From The President January 2019 Hello Friends, Happy New Year to ALL! Let s make this year very enjoyable and fun!! Our Christmas Party was great. Thank you so very much to Bonnie and Leona. The food was very good. The room was decorated beautifully. The entertainment was very meaningful. The gift exchange and games were fun. The learning presentation by Patty was something we could do easily and make a nice gift. It was a great time! I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did. UFO Resolution Quilt 2019 forms are due at our January/February meetings. If you were unable to attend please email your entry at gypsyquilter7@yahoo.com. How wonderful it is to see everyone complete their quilt and present at the January meeting. Remember you receive a gift after you present your quilt. Workshops All classes are held at the Extension office, 201 Peterson Drive, in Elizabethtown. Classes are Friday evening and all day Saturday, unless otherwise noted. If changes occur, everyone will be notified via Stitchers Email. These classes are for beginners to advanced quilters. On Saturdays - please bring your lunch, sewing machine, and supplies needed. January 18-19 Mystery Quilt with Patty Pruitt January 20-21 UFO/Community Project February 15-16 T-Shirt Quilts with Sharon Whitfield March 23 Precision Piecing with Susan McCombs April 27 Paducah Bus Trip July 20 Painting Fabric w/mj Kinman Precision Machine Piecing: With Susan McCombs March 23rd, 10-4 $5.00 This class will enable you to improve your machine piecing by introducing you to techniques that will help you achieve better intersections, square in a square units that are square, flying geese units that include their beaks and wing tips, stars that have all of their points and pinwheels that intersect in crisp point. A pattern is provided to enable you to practice all of the techniques presented. This is a six hour workshop. More Fun Ahead! There are more great workshops to look forward to this new year! Patty s Corner 1st Vice President News Jan - UFO Resolution Quilt Show - make sure you are working on completing your UFO! Feb - Applique - Piecing - Demo by Patty Pruitt (not what you think!!) Be there! Mar - Presentation by Jennifer Carter from Busy Lady Quilt Shop, Mt Washington April May- Long Arm Quilting with Pat McMillian Coming in January - a Block of the Month that you can make in 3 different sizes - 4" - 6" or 12". There will be a total of 9 blocks. Different ways to set blocks will be demonstrated at completion. Fabric requirements and more information will be available at meetings. FEBRUARY MEETING All 2020 UFO Resolution forms are due to Patty. There is one attached to newsletter and some will be printed and available at meeting. We will have items that belonged to Maxine marked and available for sale at the Feb meeting. The money collected will be donated to Ovarian Cancer Research Center at UK as per request from Maxine's husband. Cash or check accepted that evening. The items will be not be available to purchase until 6:30 which is our regular scheduled meeting time. Business meeting will begin at 7:00 that evening. It's Mini Grant time again. If you are interested please fill out the form and submit to 1VP (Patty) by 1 March. A committee will review and all grants will be distributed at the March meeting. January 21st STITCHERS COMMUNITY PROJECT DAY! On Monday, 21 January we will be working on our next Community Project. We will be making quilts for 3 different organizations that Monday and using flannel that the guild has. Those organizations are: Project Linus, Snug as a Bug and Hospice. Please mark your calendars and plan to be there that day. All 3 are wonderful organizations that do so much for our communities. I will have some easy patterns that will go together quickly. All flannel will be provided. You will need to bring your machine, rotary cutter, mat and basic sewing materials. I would bring your walking foot and a neutral color thread (white, beige or light gray.)

2019 - Heartland of Kentucky Quilt Show (20th Show) Yes it's already time to start planning for next year's show. It does take almost a year to get things together. The first meeting for 2019 Committee will be Monday, 21 Jan at 6:00 at Extension Office. If you are interested in being on the committee please plan to attend. There have been several people who have volunteered to fill positions but help is always needed and always welcomed. Minutes of Club Meeting Stitchers Quilt Guild Date of Meeting: December 12, 2018 Place: Hardin County Cooperative Extension Time of Meeting: 6:30 P.M. Social time with refreshments from 6:30 7:00, dinner at 7:00 by Olive Garden. Entertainment was provided by Central Hardin Choir Group during dinner. A $200.00 donation was given to the CHHS choral program. The meeting was called to order by President Darlene Chenault at 7:45. She thanked all those responsible for the December meeting, dinner, and decorations particularly Bonnie Young and Leona Gilliam who decorated, provided fat quarter gifts, and arranged for Olive Garden to cater. Acknowledge Visitors & New members (if any) Fifty-three members were present with 2 guests. Approval of Minutes The minutes were emailed out to members prior to the meeting with several copies available at the meeting. Martha Brooks moved the approval of the minutes. Virginia Coomes seconded the motion. It was approved without correction. Treasurer s report Report was emailed to members. Since there was no objection, the report will be filed for audit. Report of Officers and Standing Committees: 1 st Vice President Patty Pruitt reminded members that the UFO Resolution Quilts would be due at the January meeting. She said the forms for the 2019 Resolution Quilt project would be available in the newsletter and at the January meeting. She also reported that The Block of the Month in 3 different sizes would start in January. 2 nd Vice President Kelly Pruitt reported that the Mystery Workshop taught by Patty Pruitt would be January 18 and 19. The Extension will be available to members who would like to sew on January 20 and 21. On February 15 16 there will be a T-Shirt quilt workshop and on March 23 from 10 until 4 there will be a Precision Piecing class. Secretary Anne Aubrey reported that she was passing out updated membership cards. Treasurer no additional report Quilt Show Quilt Show Chairman, Patty Pruitt, said the first meeting would be January 21 at 6 o clock at the Extension. All are invited to participate. This meeting will follow a work session on making baby quilts to be donated. Old Business:

Quilts for Hosparus are still needed and can be given to Suzanne Davis or Darlene. Angel Tree Patty Pruitt purchased gifts for the 2 Angel Tree recipients the guild selected. New Business: The Board has decided to have the next food event meeting in March rather than April. Members whose last names begin with the letters A through G will provide the treats. Announcements: Eileen Heinen s great granddaughter was in the hospital was in need of prayers. Wendy Shepherd said that Vonnie Ryan was trying to gather quilts for fire victims in California. She said Two Ladies With Fabric would provide fabric to those who wished to participate. Show and Tell Denise Sloyer, Geralyn Bostic, Pat McMillian, Margot VanLengen, Martha Claycomb, Cheri Green, Lynn Phipps, and Patty Pruitt Gift Exchange around 30 participated in exchanging Christmas gifts. Demo Patty Pruitt demonstrated how to make a small quilted bucket and gave out handouts for those wishing to make a quick last minute Christmas gift. Game Guess the Christmas Carol won by Geralyn Bostic. Door Prize Drawing Ava Allen and Ilse Comenzind were two winners along with Martha Claycomb, Debbie McQueary, Kelly Pruitt, Deanna Lively, Kathy Cravens, Martha Brooks, Beth Hunter Jean Mindock, Ramona Peterson, and Cheri Green who won poinsettias.
